Fire destroys Texas governor's mansion
Texas state officials say a four-alarm fire has caused "catastrophic" damage to the Texas Governor's Mansion in Austin.
Governor's spokesman Robert Black says said no one was inside the 150-year-old home when the fire began shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. He says the cause is not yet known.
The mansion had been undergoing a $10 million renovation and Gov. Rick Perry and his wife had moved out last fall.
Black says the damage to the mansion "is extraordinary, bordering on catastrophic."
He says more than 100 firefighters are at the scene and the roof of the mansion is very unstable.
It's doubtful a contractor was there working on the building at 2AM, when the fire broke out. Especially on a Saturday night slash early Sunday morning. Strange.
Thanks isha!
Trying to find some more news about it.
That’s what I thought.
It is apparent that your civics education was public schooled...the protection of borders is a FEDERAL responsibility.......you BOZO!
BTW...your punctuation sucks too....
Hello it was 2am when the fire started, no body was at home.
When we were building a home many years ago I was inspecting it and discovered some oily rags in a trash can that were just getting ready to burst into flames. The rags were hot and smoking already.
Until that happened I didn't know oily rags would catch fire. Then a few weeks after we moved in I awoke to the smell of smoke. Mr. Ditter went into the attic and found the source of the smoke. Some wires to the heating unit had shorted out. If it hadn't been for my sensitive nose we would been in big trouble. He didn't smell the smoke until he got into the attic.
It was pretty hard to get him to go into the attic in the middle of the night, as I recall, when he smelled nothing. LOL!
And on a more serious note I wonder if this which I would assume was/is the libary was cleared before the renovations started.
Mindless destruction in my opinion.
I agree it always sad when some of historic value is damaged or destroyed.
End-of-the-day scenario would cause the fire to smolder into the early morning hours, then break out into visible flame and smoke. By the time somebody saw the visible signs from outside the structure and gave the alarm, it would be too late to knock it down without major damage.
The worst fires I ever investigated in terms of duration and damage involved lots of highly flammable material to feed the fire -- in one case, cotton seed in a warehouse (oil and lint, ignited by a welder), in another, the foam insulation in a refrigerated warehouse was ignited by a plumber (and the warehouse contained about 120,000 pounds of peanuts and 40,000 pounds of government surplus cheese -- what a mess! It was known as the "peanut fondue fire". They just dug a big hole and buried it all). Once a fire like that gets started, it can't be stopped -- just had to contain the fire and wait for it to burn itself out.
Old dry wood or heart pine with all the sap in it would just GO.
Fire started on front porch!
If you aren’t a Texan it won’t be your money (renovating or rebuilding the Governor’s mansion).
“It is apparent that your civics education was public schooled...the protection of borders is a FEDERAL responsibility.......you BOZO!”
Pardon my typos. It's not as embarrassing when I deal with rude people. A geography course would do wonder for you. The majority of ILLEGALS sneak in through your state, Texas. You would think as a citizen of Texas, YOU'D require borders be respected, “Bozo”.
“BTW...your punctuation sucks too....”
I look at the source and feel less embarrassment for not using spell check.
I imagine that all of the historic furnishing were moved out, at least I hope so. Now that I am thinking about my visit there, it did smell kind of musty and moldy. I think a 150 year old house needs a renovation every once in a while. WE only visited the first floor and that visit was at least 3 years ago.
Does every thread have to be about illegal immigration lay off it there are people who are bred and born Texans who are understandably upset about this. Until the full extent of the damage is known be gracious.
or Bush’s fault......
Often just mindless destruction unfortunately.
I've mentioned many times ... I respect CONSERVATIVE Texans and as a capitalist, also require our existing laws be enforced - especially on the border - YOUR border where the majority of ILLEGALS come through. I'm tired of crooked politicians in your state not making this happen. As for oil, we nned to drill more if you can't get more out of the ground or the Gulf. As for "cooties" I haven't heard that term since elementary school ... .
Mighty suspicious. This is heartbreaking. The article says historic paintings and other items were removed for the renovations so hopefully nothing was in the house of historical value.
is there no surveillance at this joint and/or a neighbor didn't see any smoke and report the fire?
Lastly, the reason I suspect arson is because the last time a contractor was there working on it was probably between 4 and 7PM Friday evening - unless the crew works weekends - and there's a lot of time between then (Friday, dinnertime) and when the fire started (2AM Sunday morning).
