Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is conceding the Democratic presidential nomination to Sen. Barack Obama, as party leaders and strategists began to openly oppose the former first lady's aggressive efforts to join the ticket.
"Senator Clinton will be hosting an event in Washington, D.C., to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity," the Clinton campaign said in a statement Wednesday night. The event is set for Saturday.
A series of other events Wednesday consolidated Mr. Obama's power over the party as its de facto nominee - a continuing surge of superdelegate endorsements, statements by party elders that the race is over, and his naming of a vice-presidential team, which brought about the inevitable debate over Mrs. Clinton as a running mate.
Former President Jimmy Carter told a British newspaper that choosing the former first lady, who has refused to concede defeat, would be "the worst mistake that could be made." He told the Guardian that since half of each Democrat's supporters don't like the other, Mr. Obama would run the risk of "the worst of both worlds."
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton addresses a pro-Israel group on Wednesday in Washington. The Democratic presidential hopeful is expected to concede defeat to Mr. Obama later this week.
Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell, a Clinton supporter, disputed the notion that Mrs. Clinton's strong second-place finish gives her leverage on the all-but-certain nominee.
"There's no bargaining. You don't bargain with the presidential nominee. Even if you're Hillary Clinton and you have 18 million votes, you don't bargain," he said.
The former first lady agreed to back Mr. Obama during a lengthy conference call with "impatient" House Democrats on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported. Obama aides said their team had no scheduled plans for the candidates to appear together.

Can’t imagine why Nobambi wouldn’t want Lucrecia Borgia as his Vice President.
HE HE HE....
I Agree....for the both of them... et. al.
You got that straight. Look Obama has NOT won the nomination yet! It hasn't been voted on, and again she's won the popular vote. She has NOT congratulated Obama on his winning the nomination, and she has NOT said she's quiting, stopping, conceding, or suspending anything yet. All she has done is congratulate Obama on running a campaign...that's it!
The DBM/dem is stacking up this word, "concede."
Why Saturday?!
“Ebony and Ole, Si, Si”
She is not conceding Saturday. She is only suspending.

I would imagine she changed the day from Firday to Saturday because she finally realized that Friday is the 40th Anniversary of the assassination of Robert Kennedy
Sorry, didn’t mean to post the link to San Diego results I meant to respond to Why Saturday
Interesting point.
The conditional requirement is residence, not birthplace.
Hillary isn’t exactyly shoeless herself. I heard on some show last night that the committee to search for a VP candidate for Obama is demanding that Hillary turn over all records of Bill’s donors to his library, and many of his other business dealings. I then heard that she can’t do that because Bill’s business dealings won’t cut muster.
If this is true, what does that say about what is going on behind the scenes at Bill Clinton, Inc? And I’ll bet there are many more shoes in her closet as well.
They will if she goes there.
THIS is the man who should be chosen for VP. No doubt about it.
She changed it from Friday to Saturday to diminish the media coverage of her “concession” event.
Those “emails” were her last ditch effort for people to send MONEY. That’s what they discussed on TV. Said you could only send the email if you made a donation from what I understand. What a beggar.
She is NOT “conceding”, she is suspending her campaign and will support the eventual nominee IF that is Obama.
She is behind the scenes telling superdelegates that Obam can’t win and to switch their “pledged” support for Obama and instead cast their votes for her at the convention.
Us too. He was willing to come out EARLY and put his choice on the line for Obama. Thes superdelegates who are waiting are less impressive. Anyone can back the winner. It took guts and courage for Richardson to come out so early and THAT shows how he believes in Obama. Richardson took a lot of mouthing from carville and the like. But...he stood tall and reiterated his belief in Obama and said how that kind of behavior from the clintin crowd is normal. Obama should choose Richardson without a doubt. He went through a land mine for Obama and will be a respectful, responsible asset to the ticket.
I believe you have something there. Read what I cut/paste below from the link provided at the end of post. There is alot more interesting stuff on that site.

Residency Limitations
The Constitution also prohibits electors from voting for both a presidential and vice presidential candidate from the same state as themselves. In theory, this might deny a vice presidential candidate with the most electoral votes the absolute majority required to secure election, even if the presidential candidate is elected, and place the vice presidential election in the hands of the Senate. In practice, this is rarely an issue, as parties avoid nominating tickets containing two candidates from the same state. In one notable case, former Wyoming congressman Dick Cheney had moved to Texas to serve as CEO of Halliburton Company, but reclaimed residency at his Wyoming home before accepting the 2000 GOP nomination for vice president, alongside presidential nominee and Texas governor George W. Bush.
