Besides which, the oldest ‘child’ is in the Army.

Palin has been an athlete and a beauty queen. She was the point guard for the Wasilla High School Warriors when they won the state small school basketball championship in 1982. In 1984, Palin competed in the Miss Alaska contest after being chosen Miss Wasilla that year. In the Wasilla contest, she played the flute and also won the title of Miss Congeniality.

Details of Palin's personal life have contributed to her political image. She eats moose burgers and rides snowmobiles. She admits that, when marijuana was legal in the state, she used it; however, she didn't like it.

Palin's education includes a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Idaho. She briefly worked in the media and utility industry. Palin was named one of Alaska's "Top 40 Under 40," Alaska's Public Works "Person of the Year," and was recently inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society at Alaska Pacific University. She is also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Palin's husband, Todd, works on the North Slope and is a commercial fisherman. On September 11, 2007, Palin's son Track joined the Army. Age 18 at the time, he is the eldest of her five children. She also has three daughters, Bristol, 17, Willow, 13, and Piper, 7. On April 18, 2008, Palin gave birth to her second son, Trig Paxson Van Palin. The boy has Down syndrome. The Palin family lives in Wasilla, about 40 miles north of Anchorage.

Sounds like a far more attractive VP candidate than, say, Hillary would be for Obama!

Not a good idea. Palin may be right on the issues, but she is not an exciting candidate. I met her back last fall and she was very pleasant, but gave a very lackluster speech and did not work the room well. I was optimistic going in knowing her reputation, but left severely unimpressed.

Of that list, I really like the idea of Portman. Experienced, articulate, relatively young, and could be just enough to tip Ohio to McCain.

As much as I dislike McCain, if he picks the right VP like Sarah, he could be picking our nominee 4-years from now.

Exactly. Short-term, we're screwed no matter who wins. Whomever McCain picks will very likely determine the future direction of the GOP in 2012 and beyond.

Accordingly, if he picks a VP who will continue taking the GOP in the wrong direction (e.g., Crist, Romney, Huckabee), I will have to vote against McCain as a way to give us a chance to turn the GOP ship around in 2012. If he chooses someone who represents real, limited government, Constitutional conservatism (e.g., Palin, Jindal, Sanford, Pence, Steele), I will vote for the McCain ticket as a future investment.

Palin is a hard core conservative. She would be a great choice, but I don’t want to let her go. She’s doing too good a job here in the AK.

She has little children at home.

I'm sure they'd be quite happy living at the Naval Observatory.

I'd be ecstatic with either Palin or Jindal as the choice for VP.

Romney/Crist/Graham would have me running for the exits.

• And that she thinks drilling for new oil in Alaska is a good idea.

• And that putting polar bears on the endangered species list is dead wrong.

As much as I dislike McCain, if he picks the right VP like Sarah, he could be picking our nominee 4-years from now.

I could vote for him if he picks the right VP.

In other words,

Sarah is too good for McInsane...she needs to be governor for a couple terms in Alaska, fight the idiocy of the Polar Bear endangerment, and help lead the Republican party out of the post-McCain era.

Amen

At the risk of reviving the age flaming wars, I repeat McCain is not a young person.
