Subway, the sandwich restaurant, wants to hear your child's story – unless he or she is homeschooled.
The national chain's "Every Sandwich Tells a Story Contest" offers prizes and a chance to be published on the Subway website and in Scholastic's "Parent & Child" magazine but specifically excludes homeschoolers:
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Contest is open only to legal residents of the Untied (sic) States who are currently over the age of 18 and have children who attend elementary, private or parochial schools that serve grades PreK-6. No home schools will be accepted.
Subway's website promotion not only misspells "United" States, but offers the grand prize winner a "Scholastic Gift Bastket (sic) for your home."
The 2007 winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee was Evan O'Dorney, a 13-year old homeschool student from Danville, Calif.

Good job! You understand what it's like "sacrificing" for the sake of children, and not sending them off to the care of our ill intended government schools, while attending PTA meetings, parent teacher meetings, and "pretending" to be a good parent! You KNOW that I'm talking about! You already know this, but I've just learned that the sacrifice wasn't really a sacrifice at all. It was a "killer deal" in which our entire family benefitted. We've been sacrificing the paycheck of a BSN/RN Neurscience Nurse who quit the workplace 8 years ago to homeschool our three kids (that would be my wife!), but in the end it wasn't a sacrifice at all! It was an indescribable blessing!
But the world just doesn't see it this way, and it takes a certain amount of faith to jump in and disconnect from the (mostly) failed public education system.
You'll also understand when I tell you that I'm actually FRIENDS with my three teenagers! They're now 13, 15 and 18 and I LIKE them and really enjoy their company! They're wonderful people to be around! I'm saddened when people tell me what terrible creatures their teenagers have become, and how they can't wait to ship them out of the house and get them off to college, or "anywhere". What a shame and a loss. But they got what they PAID for...which was NOTHING.
Anyhow...good on you all for truly sacrificing for your kids! :-)

To be honest with you, I think we've eaten ONCE at Subway in the past 10 years. We live on a working farm (raise dairy goats). We also raise hogs, keep chickens, hunt, keep a LARGE garden and can a LOT of grub! We don't really eat out anywhere unless it's the locally owned Portugese pizza joint in town. :-)
However, I did drop the WND URL into the largest NC homeschool list server here in the state. Homeschoolers here are very, VERY vocal and well organized. I'm quite sure that Subway will regret having done this, whether they admit to it or not. But they're like so many other corporations...driven by money and political correctness.

Have you ever tried a Robin Hood at the AAFES food court? IMHO they beat Subway in quality hands down. A little pricey, but when I am TDY and pressed for time they are not a bad option.

I doubt they’ll check residency status of the entrants, but DON’T let them be homeschooled!
No Subway for me (and to think I worked for them while in college.....). If I’m going to spend eight bucks on a lunch, I’ll stick with Chili’s........
To: Squantos
Sounds like you scored on that hire.
My son is 13- homeschooled. He has a T-shirt: “One day I’m going to be your boss.”
And people believe him too!

Tortured? Can you explain?...since homeschool is essentially the same as being tutored.
TUTORED! Not Tortured!
Now don't you feel silly?

If Subway wants to give incentives to public school kids shouldn’t they be commended?
Seems there are lots of adults who fuss about the quality of public education but don’t do a thing about it.
At least Subway seems to be doing something about it.
And as one homeschool poster replied earlier, so what if they don’t get to participate in every cheesy contest that comes along.

My e-mail was very polite. No threats of boycott. I just asked if there was a way the contest could be modified to include them. Have you ever wondered if it does any good to talk to freepers Though? They (me included) tend to be stiff necked and stick with their take on things. Well how's this? After reading your post, and thinking about it, I've changed my mind. I agree with what you posted.
Now...I need to go take my temperature.
To: CindyDawg
LOL! OMG!
Sadly too many freepers only know what the non-MSM tells them, not what they know on their own.
That is why they can say that ALL public school is garbage while ALL private or homeschool is “the answer”.
Like you, I’ve done a bit of all three. I taught my then third grader linear equations in the week he was home sick with strep or something. His teacher couldn’t believe it.
How many kids wouldn’t have better academic development if they could be tutored and that is pretty much what home schooling is.
However, homeschooling is not an option for everyone and would not even a good option for many people. Face it, we all know of families unsuited for homeschooling.

Oh, it’s pride to be an entrepreneur? I’ll have to talk to the Holy Spirit about that, since he’s the one who told me to be self employed and dependent upon no other man in the first place. He must have made a mistake.

Suppose God told my son that he should marry some day. Suppose my son started wearing a t-shirt that reads “Someday you’ll be my wife.” I think some people might find that rather boastful, don’t you?

First of all, the parallel would be “some day I’ll be your husband.”
And it wouldn’t make sense, because you can only marry one woman. (At least, if you want to be accurate about it.)
Anyway, have a nice day.
