A federal judge is forbidding the city from calling Mayor Bloomberg as a witness in its landmark suit against a gun salesman from Georgia.
At a hearing yesterday, the judge, Jack Weinstein of U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, explained his decision to keep the mayor off the witness stand by saying, "I'm not going to turn the case into a media circus for either side," according to a partial transcript.
A jury will be picked next week to hear the city's claim that a store owned by the gun dealer, Jay Wallace, sold a disproportionate number of the guns that have been recovered in crimes committed in New York City. Mr. Wallace's store, Adventure Outdoors, is one of 27 out-of-state gun dealers sued by the city, and the first of three expected to go to trail. The suits have been a central part of Mr. Bloomberg's anti-gun campaign.
The city had intended to call Mr. Bloomberg as a witness to discuss gun violence in the city. Judge Weinstein suggested that lower-ranking city officials could testify about that...

"A jury will be picked next week to hear the city's claim that a store owned by the gun dealer, Jay Wallace, sold a disproportionate number of the guns that have been recovered in crimes committed in New York City." Excuse me, but precisely what is the legal definition of "a disproportionate number"? That sounds like quite a slippery concept to define (which, I guess, is why the liberals are using it, so they can define it in their terms).

"Obama - Bloomberg.." Oh, yeah!!! "PLEASE don't throw me in that briar patch, B'ref Fox".
Talk about a ticket guaranteed not to "fly" in "flyover country".

“Also, is it not possible that if he were on the stand, under oath, that the defendants attorney could cause Bloomberg to make statements that would tend to criminally implicate him in a conspiracy to make straw man purchases in a variety of jurisdictions? And, if thats the case, wouldnt Bloombergs only alternative be to plead the 5th, thus discrediting himself and the case in general?
This way Bloomberg gets credibility for _trying_ to testify, but has been protected from the negative consequences by being prohibited.
Just a thought.”
It certainly has the appearance of Jack Weinstein protecting his Buddy and fellow hoplophope.

Was it Rudy that ordered the straw purchases done? Or was it Bloomberg?
If I was that judge, I would’ve thrown him in jail as soon as I got wind of the illegal activities.

Did he actually rule that the 2A couldnt be mentioned? No, I goofed. I should have checked. I confused the request of the city's lawyer, with what I thought the judge did. I don't know if the judge made a decision on the request or not.
Words Worth Saving (The Second Amendment)
Law: Attorneys suing a gun dealer on behalf of the city of New York want any references to the Second Amendment barred from the trial. Has our judicial system fallen down a rabbit hole and landed in Wonderland? It is a statement that, outside of fiction, we thought we'd never see: "Any references by counsel to the Second Amendment or analogous state constitutional provisions are likewise irrelevant."

Bloomberg. Rudy was a gun-grabber too, though.

What judge are you referring to?

“I guess stifling Bloomberg is supposed to balance the ruling that the Second Amendment can’t be mentioned.”
There is another possibility: Bloomberg will sound so asinine that it will destroy his own case.

The judge that barred Bloomberg from testifying.
I guess that he can be considered to be acting intelligently if his desire is to destroy the gun culture in America and to protect Mayor Bloomberg from himself.

These losers hide and operate behind a paper set of unconstitutional laws. Doom on em. Their day is coming.
