Man alive nearly 179 hours after quake

YINGCHUAN, Sichuan, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Ma Yuan Jiang, a power plant executive, was rescued at around 00:50 a.m. Tuesday from the rubble in Wenchuan County of southwest China's Sichuan Province, nearly 179 hours after the May 12 earthquake.

The 31-year-old survivor was pulled by a Shanghai rescue team from the debris of a flattened power plant, after more than 30 hours' efforts.

Rescuers found Ma at afternoon on May 18 at the debris of a flattened office building, when they were digging hole trying to reach Yu Jinhua, a colleague of Ma.

Followed by an amputation operation, Yu was rescued at about 6:00 p.m. on May 18. Rescuers then turned to Ma and sent sweetened water to him through a straw.

Ma was receiving treatment at the temporary clinic of the Chongqing No. 3 Military Hospital, and will be sent by air to a hospital in Chengdu.

He was a power generation department vice director of the Yingxiu Bay Hydro-Power Plant.

Allow me using the sentence I just learnd by someone in your forum——"As one of our most popular talk radio hosts, Rush Limbaugh, says “Ignorance is the most dangerous commodity in the world.”"

Yes, I said that to you in another context. But here in the west we are not ignorant of how the Chinese, both government and people, treat non-Chinese. Today! Not long ago yesterdays.

No.Don't use "the west" , "the Chinese" or "the non-Chinese".Both of us cant represent anyone but ourselves. We both have ignorant thoughts in a way.

I don't say I or we chinese know american or criticise on your gov. or people, then neither do you. Not because I have no evidence to criticese, just because I am not willing to do that.

Will you feel happy if you come to a foreigh land for friendship and love and what you got is hate and discrimination?Maybe some of you feel proudful or glory that you have the freedom to criticese everything, but that's not our culture. We respect Mercy,Loyalty,Courtesy ,Wisdom,Credit,in chinese called ”仁 义 礼 智 信” which is booked and obeyed more than two thousand years.Which has its historical shortage and has not been so popular in this hundred affected years. But still its connotation is within us which formed us not cynical but placid. If you think you know chinese,do you know this?Do you really know the history and culture of chinese? Can yo tell the detailed policy of each dynasty of China? Can you ever look on the people with their own point of view?I mean most people, not one or several of you neighbours. That's hard to achieve. So please dont think you have the god's sight, neither do we.

It's sad to see almost in every thread there are people talking about us with their criticism on us.Do you know the self-pride is the most serious culture of us?We are not like you, even many of us feel discontentment about gov. we'll have great antipathy against external condemnation, such culture has lasted for many thousand of year. That's why so many chinese always try to defend their gov. and people, which you all regards as "brainwashed" or "ChiCom mouthpiece".To tell you ,it's not politics ,it's country nature,no matter who is in the saddle. If you dont know it ,you never know chinese.

We all know that China sent guns to Vietnam to kill Americans and enslave the South Vietnamese. We don’t have to read minds to see how China acts. It’s written in blood all over Asia.

It's written in your book, there are many difference in other books.Nothing worth to discuss if you don't realize the existing bias on both side.

"Talking about the "sent guns" and "kill people",american is the least qualified to talk about that.US.army can be seen in almost every war all over the earth.Only children would believe the "protection" or "justice" things."

This is what I know from the media here, shall we argue about it?That's insignificance, especially by us common folks.

Save your political aspiration and proudness of konwing something.Just know that,as a good-mannered gentleman, don't push the normal talking to politics and condemn his country when you meet someone. It's basic etiquette.Or you are the one who push everyone to the place of your enemy even they wouldn't at first.Such people is called 愤青 which means angry youth with actuation and bias.

stop the criticism all over your mouth and brain. You will never get understanding and friendship from that.

I don't think there is a lot of interest on FR for a history thread about Tibet. In any case what good would it do if you can't access the links I would have to put in it? If you Google "Tibet history" are any of the sites that come up accessible to you?

What makes you think they can not access internet sites about Tibet? That has got to be the most uninformed post I have ever seen on here. The high standard of information this website has been known for is definately dropping.

CNN World : Tibet : Chinas media blackout

Chinese FReeper says Dasrafael... "though the GFW really cause some troubles when we visit a foreign website(For example we cannot visit Wiki)."

Another Chinese FReeper, on this thread that we are on, says he cannot open a website about Tibet. (zhanli)

Empirical Analysis of Internet Filtering in China

Berkman Center for Internet & Society Harvard Law School

Our main testing examined 203,217 web sites drawn from categories other than sexually explicit content. We seeded this list of sites from multiple sources.

(snip)

Using the definition of "blocked" specified above, we found that a total of 18,931 of these sites (9.3%) were blocked in China. Given the large number of sites blocked, we have organized our listing of specific blocked pages into highlights -- some blocked pages that are well known or otherwise of possible interest -- followed by the full list. Where available, each page's listing includes its HTML title, its META keywords and description, and its Yahoo Directory and Google Directory classifications. These details are as retrieved in November 2002.

Blocked websites that begin with the letter 'T' Scroll down and see the long list of websites that begin with the word "tibet" then consider how many websites are about Tibet but begin with a different letter.

Now who looks uninformed? The real question is are you the biggest fool to ever post to me or are you a ChiCom troll?

Google 'china internet blocked'

The ChiCom/Chinese nationalist point of view is the novelty "in" thing for some on FR. Let's see if this sentiment lasts after the 2008 Olympics - after which the ChiComs won't be really interested in showing their best faces to the world.

On the subject of "unrestricted" Net access, see this story and this one.

Both reports were filed in 2007.

why do you think we want understanding and friendship. As far as I am concerned I do not need your friendship or understanding. Just as I don’t need understanding or friendship from Nazis. I just want them to go away. If there are 100 books on history and they all disagree with your one book written by your government perhaps your books has some problems. Wake up. Welcome to the 21st century.

Dude, we have people posting on here regularly from China. Don't you think that FR of all sites would be banned if any site was going to be banned in China.

I'm not accusing you of donning a tin foil hat but you would do well to look at the facts.

I remember a story about the Chinese shutting down an Internet cafe. Turned out it was a firetrap of wires on the third floor of a substandard building. People on here - maybe you - were going off the conspiracy deep-end on that one.

It was nothing more than the Chinese fire marshal saying it was not safe to have 30 computers in one small room with one exit and an electrical box that could not handle the amperage.

Do you think the U.S. government filters the internet? I mean, there is no one monitoring net traffic of U.S. citizens, right?

What do you think, ChiCom? You don’t even seem to know the difference between filtering and monitoring. I guess the answer to my question is that you are BOTH the biggest fool to ever post to me AND a ChiCom troll. lol
