Obama claims of "Kennedy talked to Kruschchev over Cuba" goes unchallenged in the press

Today Barack Hussein Obama claimed that Kennedy talked with Kruschchev during the Cuban Missile Crises, and as a result, the the Russian removed these missiles from Cuba. Unfortunately for BHO, no such event ever took place.

Quote

"But when the world was on the brink of nuclear holocaust, Kennedy talked to Khrushchev and he got those missiles out of Cuba."

It was Bobby Kennedy who gave Dobrynin the ultimatum to the Soviets to remove the missiles the Cuba.

No one in the press ever challenged him.

So maybe the comparison between Kennedy and Obama is not that far off.

Should read “was ready to abandon it’s intransigent hostility”

In June of 1961, while still in the early months of his presidency, Kennedy attended a summit with Premier Khrushchev in Vienna to discuss cold war confrontations between the east and west; in particular the situation in Berlin.

To be frank, JFK did exactly what Obama proposes to do. He met with an enemy leader without any pre-conditions.

However, Kennedy was so passive, callow and unprepared, Khruschev concluded that he could mount challenges to the US which wouldn't be met.

The Vienna summit was the reason why there was a "Cuban Missile Crisis".

You'd think Obama might've learned a lesson from that. Kennedy sure did...

I was a new recruit in the AF at the time. The more I learn about it the more I’m convinced this was the birth of appeasement in our Gov’t.

LeMay said it best, “The G D Kennedy’s are going to get us killed”.

Actually Kennedy was the one who blinked. We had a massive superiority over Russia at the time but Kennedy agred to remove American missiles from Turkey in exchange for the Rusians not putting missiles in Cuba.

At least he didn't remove the missiles in Turkey without some payment.

I lived through that in the USAF in Washington. We went to FULL alert and it very much looked like the balloon would go up. It happened just before I was to be married and I honestly thought I’d just had my last phone conversation with my bride-to-be.

The back story came out that a patriotic ABC network newsman (when there were such folk) by the name of John Scali carried messages between the White House and Russian embassy officials to the effect that the U.S. would NOT back down in the face off, causing the Ruskies to pull back.

Obama is a very dangerous individual who — like Hillary klintoon — makes it up as he goes along. That does, of course, make him perfect for public office today.

I don't think the comparisons between JFK and Obama are far off.

Nixon was appointed while VP by IKE to plan the ‘Bay of Pigs’ operation. I think if Nixon had become president instead of JFK he would have obviously followed through with his plan, or would have tried harder to.

If Cuba was overthrown at that time the Soviets wouldn't have been able to move in missles. We would have had the leverage near our continent instead of them.

I get the impression that if Obama was in a similar situation like this that JFK was, he would not have been aggressive either until the point JFK did when it was almost too late.

The media should ask Obama if he would have seen the ‘Bay of Pigs’ operation through, and
made sure Cuba was overthrown. His answers would tell us alot about how he would handle Iran.

***So maybe the comparison between Kennedy and Obama is not that far off.***

Well stated, okie01. It was the read that Khrushchev got on Kennedy at the Summit that provided the Soviet Premier the resolve to press ahead with the missile deliveries to Cuba.

I was a senior flight instructor at NAS Pensacola that fateful October, and placed my pilots on at the basic NAO School on a 24 hr alert as we moved into DefCon 2...convinced we were heading back to our carrier squadrons, forthwith. Very serious times, indeed.

Cuban Missile Crisis:

Amid the crisis, Aleksandr Fomin, a Soviet intelligence officer, offered the United States terms of a settlement — through reporter John Scali, state department correspondent for ABC News. On Oct. 26, 1962, Scali met Fomin for lunch at Washington’s Occidental Restaurant, located two blocks from the White House. (snip)

Scali took the information to Secretary of State Dean Rusk, who relayed it to President. Kennedy. Scali continued working behind the scenes. But tensions rose when the Russians seemed to amend their proposal. Nuclear war seemed imminent. Scali accused Fomin of a “stinking double cross.” The president issued a final offer to end the crisis. By Oct. 28, Khrushchev announced that he would remove the missiles.

Obama is a clown, he is a legend in his own mind. He fell into office as a senator. If Ditka had run for the senate, this clown would be a non-entity.

Ditka owes us.

Yes, but you more than make up for. A top o' my hat for you excellent post.

It’s not quibbling. As with anything diplomatic, the exact words and actions are important. Kennedy did NOT talk to Kruschev. Our President should NOT talk talk to Ahmadinnerjacket. Obama sucks and THIS is why!

This is an excellent catch.
I agree with a previous poster who said that the dying socialist newsrooms are protecting B. Hussein Obama like he’s their slow child.

Obama sucks, but this is no issue

It certainly is. It goes straight to Obama's appeasement mentality and his flailing attempts to defend himself.

He was a poor president.

So poor that he was on his way to being a "one-term-wonder". People forget (if they ever even knew) *why* Kennedy was in Dallas that November day. He was shoring up the Democrat base a few months before his re-election campaign was to begin, and the prospects weren't looking good for him...

In April Kennedy abandoned the Cuban invasion force. Coupled with his weak showing in June, Khruschev smiled at his gift from the electorate of a lump of Silly Putty.

Kennedy had the Peace Corps; Khruschev had a 60 megaton weapon.

Obama is eager to schmooze with Mahmoud. A fellow Muslim America-hating socialist--back in the hood with Saul Alinsky, Uncle Frank, and Mentor Jeremiah.

To finally congratulate Rat Boy who humiliated the Great Satan for 444 days and has the blood of 241 U.S. Marines on his hands.

Perhaps it will be enough to stop the beatings by Michelle.
