Sen. John McCain, taking a victory lap as the presumptive Republican nominee, happily poked fun at his only remaining opponent.
Asked during an appearance on "The Daily Show" last week which of the two Democratic nominees he preferred to run against in the general election, McCain quipped, "Ron Paul."
But Paul might get the last laugh during McCain's coronation at the party's convention in early September.
McCain's nomination may be certain, but he finds himself pressured by different wings of the conservative movement -- from the libertarians and the anti-war activists, to social conservatives and evangelical voters.

I know thats what he said, but where has been the action in any form by him to reduce spending?
Besides reducing taxes increase revenue to the feds.
IOW, “eat the pretty sandwich, my pretties, and try not to think of the taste.” It would be a lot easier if McCain would STFU.
Tax cuts don’t mean much if the President allows the U.S. to be attacked at will by Islamo Fascists. See the 1990s for many examples.
Um, simply because the Feds spent more money in 1989 than in 1981 does not mean the Goverment became bigger. Over the course of that span of time things become more expensive, more roads were built, the military was increased and soldier’s pay increased as well, and I’m sure there are a number of additional increases in expenditures which have nothing to do with increased size in the Government. The size of Government may have grown, but I doubt that the increase is any where close to your claim of 20 percent.
Never voted for an earmark.
Voted to confirm Alito and Roberts.
Consistently votes for lower budgets.
Voted to support the WOT every time it comes up.
Voted for the border fence.
Has an 82% lifetime ACU rating, including an 80% rating for the year 2007.
McCain actually voted FOR allowing the use of waterboarding, even though he personally does not approve of it (see the vote for the Feb 2008 Senate Intelligence bill, which would have banned waterboarding, and he voted against that bill).
Voted twice (one of only two Republicans to do that) to take SS off budget, meaning that Congress could not continue to use IOUs from SS to cover budget deficits.
Any of those worth voting for? And then compare those votes and positions to those of Obama and Hillary - I think you’ll find them diametrically opposed.
Congress will never produce a bill that has reduced spending in it, other than for national defense.
The entitlement programs are the third rail.
So the only thing to do is take away the money.
Lower taxes and they have to quit spending. Deficit spending only goes so far and then the settlement day arrives.
Saying that there was no provision for spending cuts is a cop out. In short, it is BS.

I have several relatives in the military, they are voting McCain.
Just an hr. ago I received an e-mail from a relative in the military
who just located to a place she can’t state.
I have other relatives who have or are doing tours in Iraq and one in Afgan.
I don’t want to see their sacrifices and those of others
for nothing if Obama is elected.
With a democrat president and congress and appointing two or three liberals on the sup. court. there won’t be a next time for voting.
John McCain voted to ban grants for organizations that perform abortions. John McCain voted to ban partial birth abortions. John McCain voted to repeal the alternative minimum tax. John McCain voted to eliminate the marriage tax penalty. John McCain voted against giving a seat in Congress to DC. John McCain voted to require photo ID for voter registration... the list goes on.
I have been voting since 1980 and in all that time I have only voted twice for what Freepers would call a pure conservative and even that one had some flaws but still turned out to be the greatest President of the second half of the 20th Century.
I think when we vote on conservative purity and not what is in the best interest of the country we end up with Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. I don’t think we need or can afford a second Carter term.
So I will vote for McCain.

Increased revenue to the Feds through tax cuts did not outpace spending increases, which is one of the reasons this country is currently having severe fiscal problems. Regarding the other comment of yours, John McCain is one Senator out of 100 in a Senate that is under the control of the do nothing Dims (for two years now). When the Repubs had control of Congress how much stonewalling did the dims do to prevent the Repubs from passing important legislation that would have reduced federal spending? Your comment makes it sound like you believe that this one man has ultimate control, and has failed to use that ultimate control to fix problems. He doesn’t exists in a vacuum.

If you have to campaign for your candidate based on fear of what may come, then I’m a’feared you run the risk of being nothing more than a Chicken Little in my book, which is an apt description of your candidate who runs on fear of global warming and of not being able to work with his buddies on the other side of the aisle as closely as he always has, he should be happy to stay in the Senate with his buds.

Letting New Hampsheerah tell the rest of the nation whom to vote for is just plain ridiculous!
All these different states holding primaries at different times, is a hold over from the days of snail speed communications. Today in the 21st century, We the People are more than capable of coming together to select our nom at the same time! We no longer need TV/papers/whistle stops/buggy whips, to get the word out.
If there is freedom of speech still allowed, why not let the Paulies speak their mind? If we listen we may just learn something we didn't know before!
