Sen. John McCain, taking a victory lap as the presumptive Republican nominee, happily poked fun at his only remaining opponent.
Asked during an appearance on "The Daily Show" last week which of the two Democratic nominees he preferred to run against in the general election, McCain quipped, "Ron Paul."
But Paul might get the last laugh during McCain's coronation at the party's convention in early September.
McCain's nomination may be certain, but he finds himself pressured by different wings of the conservative movement -- from the libertarians and the anti-war activists, to social conservatives and evangelical voters.

The mods didn’t think so. Anti-war, anti-american crap just stinks the place up.
They have no other place to go.
No reason for us to get into a pissing contest. Ron Paul is not going to make dent like it or not. I'm not happy about the current situation. If I think of a solution I'll get back to you.
I think you’re right .
Barring that, I follow the truth wherever it leads. And I don't find them either anti-American or "white suprimist" in the least.
Some of us have “dwelled” here for years.
Some folks have their mind made up to lose the election and inflict their pain on others by causing Americas only hope to lose.
These folks could not be changed come hell or high water.
The more you try to talk sense the more angrier and determined they get to show the RHINO’s by Gawd just who should be running the show.
Sort of like trying to talk sense to an Arab wearing a suicide vest in an Israeli synagogue.
Personally, I do not want four long years of Obama inflicting other folks loser pain on my country, me or my children.
BTW. What if? McCain looses and in four long years of stifling taxes, environuts, tighter gun control, four new ACLU SCOTUS judges, military downsizing, diversity, abortions on demand, no crosses, no God in government, radical cabinet members and suddenly the cry for conservatism and wholesale changes these folks are banking on is not around because of the fairness doctrines taking away any opposition to liberalism, What if?
It happened in Russia,Cuba, Venezuela, China, North Korea and on and on.
opposition to universal health care
McCain's health care tax credit scheme is socialist redistribution.
support for a balanced budget
Mere lip service. See health tax credit above.
support for free market solutions
Globalism is Socialism in a business suit.
support for reduced taxation
Gorebull Warming, cap and trade, health care tax credits... You're joking, right?
support for 2nd Amendment rights
and support for a strong national defense
Many socialists are for strong nat'l defense... Lenin, Mao, Marx, etc...
are all socialist, oppressive positions?
Nothing trumps sovereignty... Nothing. Without sovereignty, we are simply... not. McCain would give up our sovereignty on the seven seas to the United Nations. He would dissolve our borders by way of the NAU. He would dilute our sacred vote, and thereby our sovereignty with an influx of a socialist horde, which would all but guarantee all further elections would be useless displays.
What Conservative could vote for these?
Insulting people will never further your cause. But someone as educated as you will realize this.
Sorry, guess I’m too young so I should leave.
5. Because he isn’t a “drugs, porn, gambling, prostitution, perverted sex? bring it on!” knothead.
I’ve been here for seven years and have loved the fight against socialism and liberalism, but FR is no longer any good. It’s a shame that it’s no longer my start page.
Not anything I ever said, and I’d prefer you didn’t. This is the debate the GOP has needed for a long time. Debates with only one side represented don’t accomplish much.
You could always post elsewhere if you’re just looking for agreement instead of debate. The anti-war, Storm Front Nazi and anti-American stuff isn’t tolerated here. Otherwise, I don’t think anyone cares that you support a two-percenter and you’re Canadian.
