WASHINGTON - The Senate has rejected a Republican energy plan that calls for opening an Alaska wildlife refuge and some offshore waters to oil development. Supporters of the measure couldn't get the needed 60 votes to overcome a Democratic-led filibuster threat.
Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said more domestic oil production is needed to keep prices in check and to reduce U.S. dependence on oil imports.
Opponents said areas such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and coastal waters that have been off limits to drilling for 25 years ought to remain that out of bounds to oil companies. The GOP measure, defeated Tuesday by a vote of 56-42, would have allowed coastal states to get a waiver to the offshore drilling ban.
I guess the original title reflected a bit too badly on the Rats...

“Elizabeth Dole? How disappointing.”
and surprising. I shall write her of my disappointment in her vote - a vote for higher energy costs.
That’s why I like to get to a piece like this quick and capture it.
Didn’t take ‘em long to change it tho, eh? ;-)
Bastards, the whole lot of them. Media Mobocracy at its worst
Of course, I didn’t mean to imply there is a news media conspiracy to make the Rats look good and the Pubs look bad or anything like that....
I'm a registered Republican and have voted Republican since I cast my first vote in a presidential election for Gerald Ford. (I know, little good that did.) But the more I hear of what John McCain believes, the less I want to pull the lever for him. Frankly, right now I could not vote for him. Particularly after his latest blather about "global warning" or "climate change" he has made to the American public.
There is no difference between him or Obama or Hillary Clinton. This trio of incompetents will do nothing but compound America's energy problems and will do nothing to stop the invasion from Mexico and from other points on the globe. May God have mercy on America.

No, of course not.
They bleed green just like the rest of US red white & bluers, yaknow :-}
Exactly. Because even though the wells are already in place there is no device to get volume flowing to holding areas for refinement, which in itself, is still another issue.
Actually, the entire SINate, minus one, voted for that crap!
With Republicans joining Democrats, senators voted 97-1 to suspend the shipments averaging about 70,000 barrels a day until the end of the year.
Only Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., voted against the measure.
The House was scheduled to vote on a similar directive later in the day. The Senate measure was added to legislation on flood insurance that passed shortly after the oil reserve vote.

Citizens should remember this when they vote hypocrat...and remember this every time they keep paying outrageous gas prices.
You get what you ask for!
I was going to answer by saying if he stayed true to form he voted against it, but I see TE said he refrained from voting. He is probably out there traversing the country, wasting more and more fuel, pandering to various special interests as I type.
McCain on Energy & Oil... contains some very enlightening reading.
Production Wells are not in place in ANWR nor have adequate seismic study been completed to know where to drill the wells.
“Too bad this will never happen.”
And doing that would hurt the GOP’s chance at the presidency. Since their candidate probably voted to keep prices high.
Lynch mob is comin’ when it hits $10 per. Where will the weenies be hiding out ?
Scratch that. Sherrod and the roll call are back now. I tried for about 15 minutes before that.
The money phrase, unfortunately.
Stinkin besteds!!
Sure they do! Just look what the rats can accomplish with a 49-49-2 sInate. They do far more with that than the pubs did with a 55-44-1 majority.
