An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.

With that difficult of a road, plus the landslides and huge boulders in the way, it is then easy to understand why emergency personnel will have great difficulty arriving to rescue any survivors.
I wonder if helicopters would be of any use.
1,000 saved. 18,000 more to find and rescue. In a short period of time.
That is overwhelming.

That’s horrible. Think of what the poor rescue workers are going through. To find these babies and have to lift them from the wreckage.

the rescuers in one Chengdu collapsed elementary school trying to find more survivors. in fear of resulting more damages, they are digging by hand. 11 kids saved 5 killed with more to find

I agree the blame does not lay on the rescue workers but if you have seen the pictures of the school where the 900 children died. Why is it that all the other building are left standing while the school collapsed?
I’ve done SAR work in collapsed buildings. The only way to get it done is to turn off your feelings. If you can’t do that then get out of the way and let somebody else dig or you will never sleep again.
150 parachutists are sent to the disaster area,while 4 sacrificed, 10 out of contact,and the remained 136 begin to rescue.It’s heard these parachutists all prepared posthumous writings ready before leave.
sorry... I thought you were replying to the story I posted on the thread about the mothers being angry with the rescue workers and their government about the poor workmanship and cheap materials used on the schools.
