It is not the sort of appointment Gordon Brown would make to his cabinet.
But then Mr Brown is no Silvio Berlusconi, playboy and man of ostentatious political gestures.
The Italian prime minister, long known for his fondness for pretty women, has named former topless model and beauty queen Mara Carfagna as equal opportunities minister in his new cabinet.
Miss Carfagna, 33, turned to politics after a career on TV following her sixth-place finish in the 1997 Miss Italy contest.
She has also posed topless and semi-naked for photoshoots but has always underlined her family values and stressed none of the pictures were "erotic".
Mr Berlusconi, 71, named her as one of four women ministers in his cabinet, which was officially installed yesterday.
The others are Stefania Prestigiacomo (environment), Maria Stella Gelmini (education) and Giorgia Meloni (youth).
At an awards dinner last year Mr Berlusconi told Miss Carfagna, who is single, that if he wasn't married he would "gladly marry" her.
His wife Veronica sent a letter to a national newspaper demanding he apologise for embarrassing her - which he duly did.
A law graduate from Salerno University, Miss Carfagna worked for Mediaset - Mr Berlusconi's TV company - where she appeared on several programmes before becoming an MP.
She has refused to talk of her modelling career but in an interview once said: "I am a bit of a prude and I found getting undressed in front of a camera not a pleasant experience."
Speaking of her appearance in Miss Italy she said: "That competition makes you as a woman, it matures you.
"All that stress, that desire to win, it makes you understand who you are."
Mr Berlusconi's People of Freedom party won a powerful mandate in last month's election.
Mara Carfagna, Italy's new minister for somethin er other (who cares what)
How do I set up an appointment with the new minister of sumthin?
I favored slimmer hips, nearly flat tummy and a pert lifted bubble butt ——but not skin and bones.
But that’s just me......
To each his own....
The gal shown is carrying way to much junk in the trunk.
Notices I said “FAVORED” - in the past tense.
As a old married man - I shouldn’t be noticing or commenting on this stuff, and will never again personally “experience” such treats!
I think it is at least partly the camera angle. The proportions look a little more realistic in the other photos.
Even still, large is not necessarily bad as long as the shape and texture are good. In fact, all other things equal, a large rear can be quite attractive actually.
Oh, my Holy God! Hillary Clinton’s behind is smaller than hers!
I am now permanently resigned from ever commenting on anybody’s behind at any time in any place under any provocation.
Italiano magnifico
But the other picture would make her very popular in the hip-hop community. ;)
Itsa pasta bottom!
She certainly has a leg up on the competition
NOT guilty.
way too many shadows in that picture
Yowza!
What a portfolio.
“She has also posed topless and semi-naked for photoshoots but has always underlined her family values and stressed none of the pictures were ‘erotic’.”
Topless in a thong, pointing your virtually bare caboose at the camera isn’t erotic?
What, pray tell, signorina, do you consider erotic?
E-mail me a sample photo, per favore.
Diplomatic Immunity doesn’t seem unreasonable.
the camera makes it look bigger than it really is.... which is about two large hand fulls....
and oh yeah... I find her attractive .
They look pretty equal to me! And my Schwing-o-Meter graph is going up, up up!
I'd be sorry too.
Well, for one, not this 72 year old reprobate!
I’ve always gone for slim hips....but long legs are an asset!!
There are some men who favor women who are built like 13 year old boys. However I suspect their masculinity is lacking.
