LAUREN RICHARDSON - YOU CAN HELP!
By Judie Brown

It has been a source of ongoing sadness to read of the difficulties Lauren Richardson’s father has had over the course of the past several months. For those of you who are not familiar with her case, Lauren overdosed on heroin on August 28, 2006. She suffered oxygen deprivation and, as a result of the overdose, is now in a coma and unable to speak out for herself. At the time of the overdose, Lauren was expecting a baby. Her parents honored what they knew would have been her wish and did all they could to keep her healthy and comfortable until the child was born. Today, though Lauren may not be aware of it, she is the mother of Ember Grace, who was born in February 2007.

Since the birth of her daughter, Lauren remains unable to speak of her concerns, but she has a loving father who is doing all he can to protect her from suffering the same fate as Terri Schiavo. However, Lauren’s mother, who has been named her legal guardian, is sadly not of the same opinion and is working with attorneys to pressure the courts to permit Lauren’s starvation.

Lauren’s father has kept hope alive, even at times when there appeared to be no hope in human terms. Lauren’s father is a man of hope in Christ and is dedicated to spending every breath he has on defending Lauren, regardless of what it might cost him in physical exhaustion and worldly goods. The most recent update for those concerned about Lauren tells us the following:

We struggle at times as we seek to share with the public the details of what is happening with Lauren because of the disagreement we have with Lauren’s mother. We cannot understand her reasoning in refusing a path of hope, healing and restoration for Lauren and insisting on causing her death by withholding food and water from her. The issue in Lauren’s case is the eternal truth that all people, no matter what their medical condition, bear the image of God and deserve basic care and an opportunity to be restored to health.

Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo’s brother, has written about Lauren in an editorial earlier this year, "False Compassion," and is working closely with Lauren’s father in order to provide expertise that he is uniquely qualified to share during a trying time like this.

There are many links on the Life for Lauren web site that will assist you in tracking this case and learning who is supporting Lauren’s ongoing care and who is opposing it. More importantly, there is something you can do to express your concerns.

ACTION NEEDED NOW

The governor of Delaware, Ruth Ann Minner, is being asked by pro-life Americans across this nation to intervene in this case in order to save Lauren from what many fear is an imminent court order dictating that Lauren be starved and dehydrated to death. I am asking you to be one of those who communicates your passionate belief that Lauren’s life is sacred and deserves to be protected from those who would order her death. The governor’s e-mail address is governor.minner@state.de.us.

Further, it would mean a great deal to Lauren’s father, Randy, if you sent him a copy of your e-mail to Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Randy’s e-mail address is Lifeforlauren@aol.com

During a recent visit to Anchorage, Alaska where Bobby Schindler was invited to speak, he told a reporter from The Catholic Anchor, "Once we accept that killing is an acceptable answer to human suffering, we lose any type of parameters. Euthanasia is a form of abandonment. It is not compassion."

Truer words were never spoken. As I frequently tell people who argue that we pro-lifers are being heartless and cruel for fighting to defend the rights of a "hopeless case," "God is the author of every human being’s life, and He has never given permission to a single one of us to arbitrarily rob another human being of life for any reason including disability or illness."

As Flannery O’Connor once wrote on the subject of false compassion, "In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber."

Lauren Richardson is not terminal – she is severely disabled. Lauren Richardson should not be murdered.

The story of Eluana Englaro even reached Seattle...

That's because the death squads in Washington feel "left out" and are itching to start their own pogroms.

They seldom get to see the sun, so they drink excessive amounts of coffee but that still doesn’t give them the energy they need. Like Dracula, only blood will satisfy them.

This morning started slowly. A guy hit a power pole nearby, at around 4:00am and drove off. Sheared the thing off, and left us without power until now. Authorities caught the guy.

The grim Hospice is at it again, with commentary by Wesley J. Smith. Thanks, Leslie.

..............................

St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The Florida hospice where Terri Schiavo was killed after her husband won a court order to euthanize her is coming under fire for the death of another patient. In this case, doctors at Hospice of Florida Suncoast pulled the feeding tube of 26-year-old Bradley Whaley.

Whaley entered into a coma following an overdose of painkillers and alcohol after he injured his hand severely when he punched out a glass window.

For years his parents kept vigil, and then decided to transfer him to the hospice in which Terri Schiavo died.

According to the St. Petersburg Times newspaper, his mother Sue was able to communicate with her son, who was conscious despite his incapacitated state.

When Sue would tug on Bradley's chin, he would be able to mouth "Mama" and, if she leaned in close, he would try to kiss her.

Though they spent three years by his side hoping his condition would improve, it didn't and the newspaper indicated his parents appeared to have allowed hospice to withdraw his feeding tube, subjecting him to the same kind of death Terri endured.

That greatly upsets Wesley Smith, a bioethicist who is one of the leading authorities on euthanasia issues. He says pro-life advocates and patients should be concerned that they may have someone else take their life -- even if they are conscious.

"For more than ten years I have been telling anyone who will listen that unquestionably conscious cognitively disabled patients are being denied sustenance in every state in this country, so long as no family member objects," he explained.

Smith says he's concerned that Florida law may have been breached in Bradley's case that says a patient must be declared to be in a so-called vegetative state before a feeding tube can be withdrawn.

Ultimately, Smith says the decision to kill a conscious patient has horrible ramifications for patients nationwide and yields a bias against the disabled.

"Once we decided that people who are diagnosed as persistently unconscious could have sustenance denied based on quality of life, then we stripped all profoundly cognitively disabled people from moral equality," Smith says.

"Now, virtually anyone who needs a feeding tube and can't make their own decisions--conscious or not--can and are being denied food and water," he concludes. "What a testimony about the state of the times in which we live."

Update on Haleigh Poutre and others similar...

.................................

Creating an extra layer of government bureaucracy to solve a problem, however serious, rarely proves effective.

Here's hoping the newly created Office of the Child Advocate is the exception that proves the rule.

The position is part of a law overhauling the state's child welfare system. Other measures include increasing penalties for people who work with children and fail to report instances of suspected child abuse, establishment of a foster care registry to track the success of foster parents and a revision of the process for deciding when to end the lift of an abused child in state custody.

The last measure was crafted in response to the case of Haleigh Poutre of Westfield, now 14, who fell into a coma after a severe beating. Her adoptive mother and stepfather were charged with assaulting her.............

A hopeful start for child welfare reform

Terri's family speaks out on the poor Italian woman due to be killed.

Thread by wagglebee.

Rome, Italy (LifeNews.com) -- The family of Terri Schiavo is concerned about an Italian woman whose father has won the right form a court to subject her to a painful euthanasia death. They fear Eluana Englaro will be dehydrated and starved to death in the same way Terri's husband forced her to endure.

Englaro has been in what doctors term a vegetative state for 16 years and has received food and water through a feeding tube......

On the saga of the Italian lady, how nice! Loving father wants to find a nice place to have his daughter killed. Maybe the local animal processing plant is available.

An Italian father and his advisers were looking for a place for his daughter to die yesterday as doctors, prelates and politicians wrangled over a judgment that critics said opened the way for euthanasia in the Vatican's backyard.

An appeals court ruled on Wednesday that Beppino Englaro from Lecco near Milan could order the removal of the feeding tube that keeps his 37-year-old daughter Eluana alive. The judges' decision took immediate effect. But the prosecution service, which had opposed his application, has 60 days in which to appeal and yesterday signalled that it was awaiting the full judgment before making a decision....

~Snip~

The family's lawyer had expected Englaro to be taken to Lecco hospital. But yesterday Massei, who has volunteered to oversee the withdrawal of nutrition and hydration, told an interviewer: "Lecco hospital, like other hospitals, is for the curing of patients."

“For more than ten years I have been telling anyone who will listen that unquestionably conscious cognitively disabled patients are being denied sustenance in every state in this country, so long as no family member objects,” he explained.

This is true. Even the death cultists who call us paranoid for believing it have provided the data to prove it’s true. They brag about their accomplishments in one forum, then deny them in another forum.

I have the following on my profile page. It’s the death mongers bragging about how many “useless eaters” they kill annually.

In 1999, 10.4% of the severely cognitively impaired residents of the United States were starved and dehydrated to death.

In 2000, 11.0% of the severely cognitively impaired residents of the United States were starved and dehydrated to death.

In 2001, 11.4% of the severely cognitively impaired residents of the United States were starved and dehydrated to death.

I haven’t found data yet for other years, but I think it’s a fair guess that the killings continue to climb.

This doesn’t represent a percentage of patients who died (which would be bad enough). It doesn’t mean that 11.4% of the patients who died were starved and dehydrated. It means 11.4% of all the people living in the U.S.A. with severe cognitive impairments were killed this way. And it doesn’t include the ones who were killed using other methods, such as denial of antibiotics for simple infections, removal of breathing assistance, etc.

The standard used for determining severe cognitive impairment for the purpose of this study is a score of 5 or less on the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE ~ http://www.chcr.brown.edu/MMSE.PDF ). Patients in a coma or PVS cannot possibly score 1, much less 5. You’ve probably seen people in the grocery store with a score of 5 or less. So these killings include a wide range of brain damaged people. I wonder how many thousands of people are living with a score of 5 or less. And for every 1,000 people living with a score of 5 or less in the year 2001, 114 of them were starved and dehydrated to death that year.

All I have before me are the percentages. I’d like to see the corresponding numbers. Or would I?

Following is the breakdown by state for 2001. Notice that Rhode Island tops the list, with just over a third of that population exterminated this way. That might have something to do with the fact that RI has appointed the pro-euthanasia group Choice in Dying the official State agency in charge of informing the public about “end-of-life choices.” They supply forms for “living wills” and “assist” the public in filling out those forms. This is what happens when you put the fox in charge of the henhouse.

Believe it or not, Florida and Texas are both below the national average. Every state is on the list. Georgia is at the bottom of the list, exterminating only 1.30% this way.

Thread by wagglebee.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- With pro-life advocates and John McCain's campaign criticizing his position in favor of unlimited abortions, Barack Obama struck back on Thursday. The Illinois senator put forward an absolutist position in favor of abortion and attacked McCain for wanting judges who don't make law from the bench.

"I will never back down in defending a woman's right to choose," Obama said at a breakfast fundraiser with an internal campaign group called "Women for Obama."

"That's what's at stake," Obama added, referring to control of the Supreme Court and whether abortion will remain legal and without limits for another 35 years.....

Take a look at Rhode Island. A third of that population. Can you imagine the outcry if they were eradicating a third of any other population? A third of the criminals? A third of the alcoholics? How about a third of the illegal aliens?

Starting with good news: One country, Korea, does the right thing. Hey, Italy, are you watching?

Tamar1973 has a thread on this story.

...............................

A court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by the family of a comatose 75-year-old woman to let her die. Kim’s children said their mother, who survives on life support, had the right to die with dignity so she would not have to continue living a meaningless life and asked for permission to remove the respirator and discontinue injections and feeding. But the Seoul Western District Court said that stopping treatment conflicted with the principle of the absolute value of life, and there was no way to confirm Kim’s own will.

The court ruled that even family members do not have the right to make a decision that would cut somebody’s life short. Though Kim used to say she would not want to rely on a respirator when her health deteriorates to a irrecoverable state, the court said the decision was not made when sufficient information was available to her and could therefore not be treated as a living will.

Kim has been comatose since February 2008 when she sustained brain damage from bleeding. In May, Kim’s children petitioned to be allowed to switch off life support. It was the first court case on euthanasia to be heard in Korea.

Another take on the grim hospice latest victim...

..............................

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida, July 11, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Another young person has been dehydrated to death in the same hospice in Florida where Terri Schindler Schiavo met her court-ordered end. Bradley Whaley, 26, was severely brain damaged by an overdose of drugs and was minimally conscious, according to media reports. He died July 2 after the Hospice of Florida Suncoast removed his food and hydration tube.

After Bradley's collapse, his mother said she and her husband did nothing but "work, sleep and spend time with Bradley". His family cared for him for three years but in the end they transferred Bradley to the Hospice of Florida Suncoast, the same hospice in which Terri Schiavo died after having her assisted nutrition and hydration tube removed.

Sue Whaley told the St. Petersburg Times that Bradley would "mouth" the word 'mama' and would kiss her if she leaned close enough................
