Actually, this is an easy one. Joseph Smith learned from the Lord that none of the Christian churches of the day were the TRUE church, His church. The Lord basically told the Pharisees & Sadducee's the same thing during His Ministry here on earth. For me, it's not very hard to understand that the Lord would have ONE true church that was His. One! Not thousands w/ all their varying doctrines & ordinances.

I respect the opinion of those that don't believe the Mormons have the truth or are the true church. What befuddles me are those that claim all Christian churches are true even though their beliefs contradict one another on several key points. Christ never taught it was o.k. to believe differently. He taught one set of principles. There were not options of truth to choose from.

Now Elsie, I believe I've explained this to you before. Please don't represent & say that no Mormon has answered you. They have, & I just did. You may not accept that answer as is often the case, but don't claim the answer wasn't given.

I mean, how many times have these 50 questions been posed here?

How many times have they been answered truthfully?

Actually, this is an easy one. Joseph Smith learned from the Lord that none of the Christian churches of the day were the TRUE church, His church.

And when we say Mormonism is a FALSE religion, not Christianity, and debate why, it is "bashing?"

Got it.

Here is your Double, Standard.

Answering ME is a LOT different than ANSWERING the QUESTION asked!

Joseph Smith learned from the Lord that none of the Christian churches of the day were the TRUE church, His church.

THIS is NOT an ANSWER to the question: "Just what did Joseph Smith 'learn' to be UNTRUE about PRESBYTERIANISM?"

What part of what is so hard to understand?

Joseph Smith learned from the Lord that none of the Christian churches of the day were the TRUE church, His church.

Why are YOU misrepresenting what Joseph Smith wrote??

It PLAINLY says PERSONAGES!

One of whom SAID, "This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

The other Personage then SAID nothing.

(Kinda hard to HEAR HIM when he is silent.)

This is helpful. It’s helpful to see some of the specific heresies that Joseph Smith came up with, and how they are so unbiblical.

“Restored” is Joseph Smith’s term for “made up” from his overactive imagination. It is distressing that so many have fallen for his fictions, and that so many are promoting a religion that may very well lead them to hell.

I don't have a problem when you & others say that you feel Mormonsim is a false religion. I respect your opinion as I do others here. I have had several warm, RESPECTFUL debates here w/ others & I have always welcomed those debates & in fact, invited them.

Debate is not bashing. Misrepresenting what the church believes, distorting, purposely telling falsehoods, calling those who don't share your opinion liars & agents of Satan, etc....., that's bashing.

When our antagonists frequently go to the Tanner sites as well as other anti sites that have been totally discredited by most standards, & then spew the venom contained therin w/o basis in fact, that's bashing.

For the better part, you don't see Mormon's bashing others & other's churches in such a fashion. We welcome open debate & enjoy the opportunity to defend our beliefs. We try & do so in a civil manner. That kindness & civility is often not reciprocated. Thus bashing.

Hope this clarifies what you call the “double standard”. I wish you the best my FRiend.

This seems to be a hard one for you to grasp Elsie. What he found to be untrue was the church. He found that the PRESBYTERIAN church was not the true church of God. The same w/ all others. I thought that to have been presented quite clearly in my post. What part of what is so hard to understand?

Misrepresenting? Christ, the Lord was speaking to Joseph. The Father introduced Christ, & then Christ spoke to Joseph. They didn’t speak at the same time. No misrepresentations here.

I have never found you to be one that seeks open, honest debate as described in the above post. Therefore, I will respectfully wish you a good day & not get into a silly tit for tat w/ you.

I would add that Joseph's mother and 3 siblings were Presbyterians, and Joseph had been pressured and encouraged to join with them. His answer to his mother after the First Vision takes that into account.

JS History 1:

7 I was at this time in my fifteenth year. My father’s family was proselyted to the Presbyterian faith, and four of them joined that church, namely, my mother, Lucy; my brothers Hyrum and Samuel Harrison; and my sister Sophronia.
8 During this time of great excitement my mind was called up to serious reflection and great uneasiness; but though my feelings were deep and often poignant, still I kept myself aloof from all these parties, though I attended their several meetings as often as occasion would permit. In process of time my mind became somewhat partial to the Methodist sect, and I felt some desire to be united with them; but so great were the confusion and strife among the different denominations, that it was impossible for a person young as I was, and so unacquainted with men and things, to come to any certain conclusion who was bright and who was wrong.

This seems to be a hard one for you to grasp Elsie.

What he found to be untrue was the church.

This says NOTHING!!

What is so hard to GRASP about that?

Doers the word EVIDENCE or even TESTIMONY mean NOTHING??

One more time: WHAT was UNTRUE?

The Father introduced Christ, & then Christ spoke to Joseph.

No; the PERSONAGE refered to as "My son" said NOTHING.

You are invited to prove me wrong.
