VOTING FOR MY CONVICTIONS, or For The Lesser Of Two EVILS
By Yosemitest, April 27, 2008
After McCain's latest outburst against conservatives about the North Carolina Republican Party TV ad, I did some research that I'd like to share with you. We don't have to follow the GOPs marching orders into the abyss of liberalism. The GOP is destroying conservatism, and we should withdraw our support for this corrupt organization.
Now may I suggest someone that I can support. Someone that the Athens Banner-Herald on Sunday, June 2, 2002 described as
Where does he stand on the issues? Associate Editor Jesse Walker of Reason Magazine Online talked with Barr in September 2003, and described him
But in his eight years in Congress (he failed to win re-election in 2002), Barr was one of Washington's loudest critics of the federal government's abuses of power, taking the lead in investigating the raid on Waco and in opposing Bill Clinton's efforts to undermine due process in terrorism cases. Since leaving Congress, Barr has taken an advisory post with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and started writing a column for Atlanta's alternative weekly Creative Loafing -- neither ordinarily a haven for Republicans. While many on the right have fallen behind the Bush administration even as it betrays their purported principles, Barr represents another set of conservatives' growing discomfort with the administration's erosion of individual liberty."
Take a look at Robert L. (Bob) Barr, Jr. statement on the issues at the Barr 2008 Presidential Exploratory Committee web site. There are some things I disagree with him on, such as the fair tax. But look at his answer to the drug issue that Hannity addressed.
BARR: No, I would not vote to legalize heroin and crack, Sean. We've talked about this.
HANNITY: Well, then, I believe what Ronald Reagan said: no pale pastels; bold colors. Work within the Republican Party to make it more conservative. I want it to be conservative.
BARR: You know who tried to work against Ronald Reagan and convince him not to run? It was the Republican Party, Sean.
It's time to renounce that Sorry Ole Bonehead McCain and support a real conservative.
One of my convictions is actually getting something done, as opposed to making a lot of noise while the country burns. I can’t do that with Barr, or anyone other than McCain.
Somebody FINALLY got the reference. I was wondering if there were any Lebowski fans around here... The cleaned-up version of Walter Sobchak’s rant is more hysterical and insane sounding than the f-word rant. It cracks me up every time I hear it.
I haven’t noticed your tagline until now, for some reason. The dude abides.
You just reminded me to put Grace Park on my FReeper page. ;-D
I only put it up there this week. It just ties my whole post together.
Soon to be 'Sittin' on the porch back in Arizona, yelling "Get off my lawn you damn dirty kids!"' McCain.
That much, I think, is true. The only thing I have against Bob Barr is the idea of not finishing what we started in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the whole nexus of issues around the GWOT. I believe him to be wrong in that regard, at least to the extent that I have read.
I don't know how that can be squared with a true Conservative sense. He must meet all three pillars of Conservatism squarely, or I am afraid I cannot lend him my support. But I am willing to be convinced.
Yes, it is, and yes, he was.
The VP choice is generally meaningless. What will matter with McCain will be his SCOTUS picks. To ensure he picks Constitutionalists, pressure must be applied by the conservatives at every turn. That pressure will take the form of backing or not backing his legislative proposals.
With Hillary and Obama, SCOTUS choices will be Marxists with no allegiance to the Constitution.
I completely concur.
I don't want another clinton and obama is unthinkable so I am voting for McCain.
You selected a very fitting FR name.
you morons have no idea how important this election is. and for the situation in the persian gulf. It makes me furious. like wanting to tie someone to a tree furious.. haha

I'd hate to lose Barbour as my governor, if he went for the V.P. under McCain, but I don't think he'd take it.
I'm not nuts about Barr, but I can vote for him. I originally wanted Duncan Hunter, then when he dropped out, when to Fred, then to Romney. But when Romney dropped out, I couldn't stomach McCain, I'd vote for Hillary or Obama over McCain. But when I noticed Barr getting into the race, I perked up.
I'd like to see the GOP not get one penny in donations because of McCain. The GOP can eat McCain and die!!!
It wouldn't surprise me if, after he's elected, he declares himself a Democrat, after being sworn into office.
He might be singing the Libertarian Party's position, just to get their nomination, which also destroys his credibility.
But Barr's actions while he was in office was starkly conservative, and I believe he'd finish the job in the middle east only with victory.
I'm just asking, I don't know. All I know is that McCain legitimized the far, far Leftwing in their "US tortures" meme and want to give terrorists captured on the battlefield access to US Courts.
Where's the indication that McCain has a clue? In practice, it is not clear, how different McCain would be from Hillary. There's a clearer case against Obama. But it's NOT clear, what McCain supports?
You've got to face reality, none of the three major candidates are good on the war. Heck, in my view, I think Bush is wimping out on the war.
Then tell me when the 'unimportant' election will be: Maybe the one after this one, when we are up to our eyeballs in Iran and Sudan? Or the one after that, when we're kickin Muzzies out of Europe?
So all us Conservatives are supposed to just toe the line and vote Big (R), allowing the traitorous Globalist Republicans a free pass on every other thing?
It is time for the RINOs, and the defcons (to a lesser degree) to understand that such as you desire is not going to come to pass. Why that is, is because the other pillars of Conservatism are not being served.
If you had endorsed a Reaganite as the nominee, this impasse would not have occurred- We would have no need to worry about our sovereignty and our borders. We would not have to worry about so called 'free trade'. We would not have to worry about back room deals with liberals.
As it turns out, this war is the means to nefarious ends for the Globalists. Those who will vote for the war above all other concerns are doing precisely as expected- becoming the useful tools of those betraying us.
You were warned. You were pleaded with. You all knew where the lines were. Now it is our fault somehow? You have made your bed. Now lie in it.
