Rhonda Howard and Cory McDaniel told the deputies that a big television wouldn't fit in the trunk, so they put the boy in the trunk and the TV in the back seat. (NBC News) Guilty? Not Guilty? I reserve my verdict until I know what kind of TV it was.

Eeh, the kid’s OK, and agreed to it. I’d chalk this up to just another Jeff Foxworthy-style “you might be a redneck” thing and move on with life.

Gee, haven’t they ever seen Speed Racer? Kids LOVE to stow away in the trunk.
The big families in our church now have to resort to 12/15 passenger vans because of airbags/mandatory safety seats.
In the old days, you could fit seven in a Dodge Dart, toss at least nine in a Chevy Impala, and 12 or 13 in a Ford Country Squire station wagon. Better gas mileage, too!

They’re in trouble because they didn’t have their BABY IN TRUNK bumpersticker.

Kind of like sneaking into the drive through movie theater by hiding in the trunk.
I can see this happening with the smaller cars, the trunks arn't that bad as far as space goes, its the opening of the trunk that's small. I think they do that to get you to spend $10 grand more on a SUV.
To: Responsibility2nd
Most Americans would put their mother in the trunk for a 5” black and white TV. For a large flat screen, they’d tie her to the roof.
To: Responsibility2nd
Guess they don’t have a flat screen TV ... they take up less space and maybe the two of them could have enjoyed the back seat.
BTW, how old was this boy who was put in the trunk?

Couple Put Boy in Trunk And TV In Car Seat
Aw, C'mon! That's an easy mistake to make! They're both noisy, expensive, take up too much space, and you have to change both regularly!

Not a big deal. I would imagine most of us have done goofy things like this before.
The kids were stuck between a rock and a hard place. If the boy had squeezed into the passenger seat with his brother’s friend, they would have both gotten tickets for not wearing seat belts.

Okay, WOAI makes these two look bad, and maybe they are. But c’mon, it’s a load of political correctness at work, too. Hell, I’ve ridden in a trunk when I was a kid. Several times. For fun. And about a zillion kids in the 50s and 60s snuck into drive-ins that way.
Nowadays here in California, you cant’ ride in the back of a pickup anymore. Who hasn’t done that? The country is being ruined bit by bit by these nosy damned nanny-staters.
To: Responsibility2nd
Well, being in the trunk of a car is arguably safer than riding in the back of a pickup truck while sitting on the bed rail... something I did many times in my youth.

If we're bringing home a big TV, and I'm a 14 year old with an X-box... Damn-skippy I'd ride in the trunk before I'd walk home. A couple of miles ain't that bad (experience speaking). Wanna get that thing plugged in and start blasting away.

Having ridden in a trunk before of my own free will before this thing is entirely blown all out of proportion.
