FLDS women seek Texas governor's help
Deseret News ^ | April 13, 2008 | Nancy Perkins

SAN ANGELO — A Texas judge on Sunday ordered law enforcement officials to immediately confiscate all cell phones in the possession of FLDS women and children now housed in temporary quarters here. "I just called to say, hi. They are about to collect the phones, I think," one soft-spoken FLDS woman said during a telephone call to another member of the Fundamentalist LDS Church who was outside of the shelter. "I don't like what they're doing."

Several of the women inside the shelters spoke by cell phone to the Deseret News on Saturday to describe the living conditions there. Children could be heard crying in the background of each conversation. The News published an article on Sunday, quoting the women who complained there was no privacy and that their children were getting sick.

FLDS faithful outside the shelter are convinced Sunday's court order is a direct result of the women speaking to the newspaper.

"This is nothing more than retaliation of Child Protective Services to punish those who were disclosing what is really happening behind the walls of this concentration camp," said Don, an FLDS member who asked that his last name not be used. "These are my family members."

I am not a mother but mine would have followed me to hell and back so I see no problem (or other reason) for these mothers wanting to be with their kids whatever the situation.

OK, are all the births ‘home’ births or do they use a hospital and get birth certificates? Does anyone know?

One of the affidavits for a warrant indicates that they have their own clinic. I would think the doctor or clinic would still be obliged to provide the birth information to the state But maybe not, I don't know what the law is on that. But if they are, that may be why the fact was mentioned in the affidavit.

Just to clarify, it was multiple calls over several days.

Best info I have right now is that this was all kicked off by what seems to be rank hearsay. Ever day that goes by without the state saying that they have found the girl (I don't need more detail just that she exists) keeps confirming my suspicions.

And the supposed perpetrator in another state.

Explain why it has to be one extreme or the other with you? We either send them back into “slavery” within the cult or we force them and their children into overcrowded camps with no communication options? Well why don’t you just kill them, it’s better than letting them go back? Honestly honey, you should go back to your knitting and let the grownups figure this one out.

The founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, had a 14 year old girl, Helen Mar Kimball, as one of his wives, marrying her when he was 38.

Marriage at 14 when Smith was 38, which would make it 1844 was probably no big deal. But polygamy was.

(hmm, my grandfather's name was Kimbell, might be a spelling change.. probably not. His stepfather, from whom he got the last name, did have 3 wives, but in series, not in parallel. The first two died on him, including my great-grandmother, his second wife.

My wife's great-great grandparents came out from St. Louis in a wagon train that was mostly Mormons. Of course, they being fairly recent Danish immigrants, did not know what Mormons were or did. Until the winter over near Omaha, when they figured it out. They decided to go their own way, and ended up not all that far off the Mormon Trail, around 40 miles, but also not that far from Omaha, and a long ways from Salt Lake City. The place they settled, in 1868, is still in the family, half now owned by my mother-in-law, the other half, which may not have been part of the original home place, owned by my father-in-law's two first cousins. Both places are farmed by the same sharecropper though.

I tried to post this last night, but it doesn't seem to have posted...so here we go again...

The Government LEO’s are trying to convince these women to testify against their religious and family leaders.

Yes, I know why they are doing it. The Soviets, etc., used to use the isolation technique quite effectively with dissidents.

Just think of the wonderful benefits of making our Law Enforcement Authorities the arbiters of when we can obtain the guidance of our "religious leaders," as you put it.

Why, for example, if we can only get women from stopping their discussions with their priests, we might be able to convince them of how quaint and silly an idea it is that children should be carried to term. ...We all know the "modern way" is that it's a choice, not a child!

And all this moralistic talk and thought...why, if we can stop the relgious leaders from influencing us, we could just take our cues from the federal and state authorities--those wonderful arbiters of moral behavior!

O! What a wonderful world when the government can be the arbiters of when people get to be in contact with their spiritual or religious leaders! </sarc>

Guess what... the violations of laws such as Title 5, Chapter 21, §21.11, of the Texas Penal Code ("Indecency with a Child") are sick and should be prosecuted fully and vigorously.

Funny how the whole trigger for this raid was a supposed allegation against Dale Evans Barlow, who wasn't even in the same state.

Tell me, since you know so much about this case, what are the details on that "Sarah" calls? Did the womens shelter trace the call to the ranch? Where was Carolyn Jessop (or her publicist) at the time of the call?

Please do explain how the government was violating their rights prior to this raid.

Tell you what... If you think they’re so peachy, why don’t you invite them down your way so they can continue their practices in your country?

Can only consider this after we take care of unfinished business, like leveling the Catholic Agricultural College at Bindoon to the ground and ploughing the land with salt

I mean, I said it before, but horses will return to a burning barn out of fear of the dark ‘out there’.

I've heard that, but horses are particularly afraid of fire , often to the point where it is difficult to get them out of the barn. (Which might be the source of that old saw). But I've never heard of them being afraid of the dark. Being alone bothers them some, but not the dark. IOW, I don't believe they'd return to the barn while it was burning. Although a mare might if she could hear her foal inside, and a foal(ie. a colt or a filly) might if it could hear it's mother inside.

That is why I posted “call(s)”. The Texas Rangers declined to arrest the man they questioned in Arizona. So what is going on here? Again not to you in particular Gondring where is the girl?

I am only merging together information from various news sources, and various websites.

I think there could be more to this than meets the eye, because there is a lot of money, land, and power involved in this, if the government closes the FLDS down.

I also think that the abuse, as described, went on, and continues to go on.

I think it must be stopped, even if the current complainant cannot be found.

Something, or someone, shut her up. Don’t ya think?

Even if she is a ‘plant’, so to speak, I suspect the crimes exist anyway.

JEFFS and group refused to abide by requests that they not perform marriages to underage girls.

Just about negates the need for this one girl to complain.

Heck, just find another child bride who will testify.
I am sure there are plenty.

Take DNA samples for evidence.

(Oh, wait... that’s what the LEO is trying to do)

“I would say that they should be charged with accessory after the fact when they turn over a 13 or 14 year old girl to a 50 year old man to have his way with.”

Warren Jeffs was convicted for just this charge, and sent to prison.

ACCOMPLICE TO SEX WITH A MINOR.

One of his ‘brothers’ was charged with SEX WITH A MINOR.

what about when they are ripped from the arms of their ‘mother’, and given to a new ‘mother’, at the whims of Warren Jeffs?

Read what I wrote about the nature of rights. That action is not being done in my name. What the government does is being done in my name, and yours. No matter what Jeffs and the others have done, it does not allow the government to break the rules, because those are also from "We the People".

“I am not a mother but mine would have followed me to hell and back so I see no problem (or other reason) for these mothers wanting to be with their kids whatever the situation.”

The women were complaining that they had no privacy, and that their children were getting sick. These children, who were WITH THEM.

They were not being kept from their mothers.

The LEO’s took out the children, and also took out their mothers, to be with them, while this investigation was done, and to protect them.

All of this is known fact.

How is the distortion that they are being separated coming about? Is it the media?

Yet the media said the LEO’s took away their cell phones.

Somebody’s lying.

“No matter what Jeffs and the others have done, it does not allow the government to break the rules”

I’m not advocating they break the rules.

I am advocating they enforce the law.

No fake or ‘spiritual’ marriages to underage females. Sorry. It’s wrong. It’s illegal.

Even if it’s OK in ARK or TENN to marry a 14 year old, it’s not in CA,UTAH,NEV, or TEXAS.
