“Monica” shouldn’t be allowed to reclaim her children until she demonstrates comprehension of the basic fact that redheads look hideous in lavender.

These children don’t even know who their “real mothers” are.

I think both are good bets.

The way I look at it is one hurts far more and demands immediate attention. And sometimes, you just have to bandage a paper cut.

This is a paper cut that has festered, grown gangerous and now needs amputated.

I have faith that the tumor is also being treated, but due to HIPPA regs we just dont know about it...

My supposition was a the old family Bibles with births and deaths.

It would be difficult to get 50+ names on a Bible page.

More likely regular genealogy charts, There are forms available to use.

Strange that I can't find any reference to the FLDS and baptism for the dead, which is the main reason for the mormons to emphasize genealogy searching.

That must be one really nasty paper cut. But I hope you are right about the tumor being treated.

We might be violating the mothers right to call anyone, but if we don’t, aren’t we violating the trust of the nation by allowing children to be seduced by a cult that buys loyalty with little girls?

Texas might be violating their rights by confiscating the cell phones - they should take that up with their attorneys, but allow me to "monday-morning quarterback" for a moment. I would liked to have seen the prosecutor get a warrant to wiretap their phone calls for the express purpose to determine if witness tampering was taking place between the cult leaders and the women in custody. If not, let them have the phones and get off the tap. If so, sad as it sounds, witness tampering, especially if done over the phone in another state, would likely lead to more jail time than we'll see for other charges in this case.

Thank you both for your excellent and succinct posts.

GovernmentShrinker, I have a question for you. What law allows them to not let the men back on the ranch if they leave?

Another question for either one of you, is there a possibility that among the cell phones they picked up, one could have been the one the child used to call the domestic violence hot line?

There are four family pedigree charts (my grandparents) posted at the bottom of my homepage. These are the forms used by the LDS Church and link to the LDS site familysearch.org.

By clicking on individual men's names you can see how many had multiple (polygamous) wives... for example click on John Doyle Lee and see the list of wives. Next to each you will see a link for her children.

There are 11 individual men in my family charts that participated in LDS polygamy. I'm related to most of the State of Utah through at least one of them. I suspect the fLDS would use this kind of system to track the individual children born in the polygamous unions.

Re the uniforms, I’ve been wondering if they’re color coded according to what man owns them, or some other classification. There are a limited number of different colors in the dresses, and I often see women and children in the same colors clumped together. I’ve also seen a few white dresses, and that would have major significance in this group — no way is that an individual choice, or even a choice made the father/husband of an ordinary family within this group. I don’t think these women even have a choice of which color their mandatory-style dress is.

I didn’t think of that! But yeah, no print or pattern and a pretty universal size. Could be a way of letting the kids know who their ‘mom’ was at that time.

re: Uniforms

The compound probably got a good price on bulk cotton. I’ve never seen so many plain pastel colors.

I’ve seen a picture of Carolyn Jessop’s husband and his wives in matching floral print dresses. I think it’s mostly a matter of cost and appropriatness (no flashy colors, no red, and no black)

Wow, I think you’re the only person who’s ever called me “succinct”! Are you sure you know what it means? :-)

Re the current no-return policy, I expect that is connected to the search warrants. I doubt that either the FBI or state has officially completed its search. If they let these men leave and come back, there’s a risk of phony evidence being snuck onto the property and the leaders subsequently claiming it was there all along.

Re the cell phone, I suppose that’s possible, but I doubt it’s the main reason the phones were collected. However, since the phones were inside the compound when the search warrants were issued, they would be subject to thorough search. I rather doubt that was done on the way out, especially since doing it thoroughly would have required strip-searching all the women and children. Presumably it’s being done now — checking all the names and numbers in the contact lists, photos stored, e-mails on Blackberry-type devices, etc.

You may be onto something. The leader banned the color red. It seems he has a “color thing” going on.

They’re almost all pastels, but I’ve seen a few in very dark green and a few in white. No way is the white random, and I rather doubt any of the colors are, just because every detail of their lives is controlled.
