That is a VERY good point.

In the book I mentioned, IIRC Carol Jessups children were so afraid that they were going to hell for leaving that abusive environment that the older boy phoned their dad and gave him their whereabouts.

You notice the Federal Govt is absent. I am thankful the Texas authorities are handling this nightmare.

LOL!
Well the irony of my tagline is it’s a direct quote from a Male Freeper/good friend. Very tongue in cheek mind you.

Yep, to quote from another thread “An 18 year old girl is every 50 year old man’s dream. Thats reality. “ (to paraphrase). Even if it may be a woman’s worst nightmare.

So yeah, while I can see both sides of the government intervention arguments, I’m also seeing a too many who are not saying anything about the ugly side of this cult.

Sorry...I guess I missed their trial.

Me too. I'm constantly amazed that people are so willing to believe anything the government says.

I haven't seen that they've managed to come up with the girl who allegedly called them yet.

They apparently don't need no stinking rights. "It's for the chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiildren!"

This is not going to end well.

The state will convict the child abusers but the ADULT women who were sincire in this are going to be able to shoot back with civil suits.

It is going to be interesting to see what was going on in the judges mind that allowed the phones to stay at the start and only now he woke up to take the phones.

You are a sick pervert enabler.

enabler Main Entry: en·abler Pronunciation: \i-ˈnā-blÉ™r, -bÉ™l-É™r\ Function: noun Date: 1615 : one that enables another to achieve an end; especially : one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior (as substance abuse) by providing excuses or by making it possible to avoid the consequences of such behavior

The government and its agents have not broken the law here.

Please take the time to read a history and tell me how many people were killed in the last century by psuedo-Christian cults and how many were killed by governments. In fact, you could count all the murders committed by the Mafia, the Crips and the Bloods, the Chinese Triads, and any other criminal group you cant think of and come up with millions fewer victims than the bloodshed on the part of governments. If a crime was committed, specifically sexual abuse of a minor, the perpetrator should be arrested and tried and the specific victim(s) of the crime removed through a witness protection program. There was no call to remove hundreds of people from the only home they knew without due process of law.

A group of polygamist Mormons is not popular, especially in rural Texas, dominated as it is by evangelicals uncomfortable with these strange people. However, the same technique applied to a small, unpopular minority could in the future be applied to homeschoolers, people who oppose homosexual rights, fundamentalist Protestants, the Amish and Mennonites, and whoever else the state regards as enemies. Remember what Martin Niemoller said after the end of the Nazi regime: "In Germany, they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist; and then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist; and then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew; and then . . . they came for me . . . and by that time there was no one left to speak up."

And yes, while not criminals, a hairsbreadth away if coached by the right person.

Excellent! Thoughtcrime makes its debut on freerepublic.

ah so why not just take the men’s phones other than for talking to their lawyers.

BTW is anyone actually under arrest?

How so?

And what would you do in this case? (just curious, but I think I already know).

You would think these people would be more comfortable and less visible to the media in several motels. It doesn't appear that they are much of a security threat and the state of Texas is willing to spend buckets of money on salaries for police and social workers in this matter. If the women and children have to stay for a prolonged period, the military barracks are not air conditioned, and San Angelo gets very hot in the summer, with average highs in the upper nineties.

When the texas police start throwing FLDS members into ovens or forcing them to do labor, let me know. Before then, posters need to knock off the ridiculous nazi/concentration camp comparisons to what is going on here.

Bttt.

“Warren Jeffs, the sect’s prophet and spiritual leader at its longtime headquarters in the dusty, side-by-side towns of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Ariz., was charged in 2005 and 2006 with forcing underage girls into marriages. He was convicted in September in Utah of being an accomplice to rape and is serving up to life in prison."

Don't confuse him with facts!

You’re grasping at straws and making off the wall comparisons-— there is no commonality between what you posted and what’s happening.

Unless you don’t believe that all they’ve done is illegal. (Which is it).

First they came for the child molesters, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a child molester and am for them arresting child molesters. Then they came for those committing welfare fraud, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't committing welfare fraud and am for them arresting people committing welfare fraud.

Ok Senator Murtha, you are correct. The Texas authorities in this are JUST like Nazis and Communists!/s

I am deeply sorry for her, and think that her kids should be in her custody if she is not under investigation herself.

Heck, even if she is under investigation herself, I’d think they could see each other supervised, if only for the childrens’ sake.

First you have no proof that this women is the mother of anyone. So she needs to provide that proof and then name the father.

A group of polygamist Mormons is not popular, especially in rural Texas, dominated as it is by evangelicals uncomfortable with these strange people. However, the same technique applied to a small, unpopular minority could in the future be applied to home schoolers, people who oppose homosexual rights, fundamentalist Protestants, the Amish and Mennonites, and whoever else the state regards as enemies.

This captures my sentiments very well. We are now free to practice religion, only if it is the religion approved by the government. We are only afforded due process if it is convenient.

Please tell us how the government could do this to Amish and Mennonites. What are they doing that would make them be regarded as enemies of the state?

Please tell us.
