Obama Explains Why Some Small Town Pennsylvanians are "Bitter" [and cling to guns and religion!]
ABC News ^ | 4/11/07 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 04/11/2008 4:23:18 PM PDT by freespirited

The Huffington Post's Mayhill Fowler reports that, at that same San Francisco fundraiser where Obama revealed his previously unknown college sojourn to Pakistan, the junior senator from Illinois seemed to try to get inside the mind of small towners in Pennsylvania, with a dose of sociology and a dollop of dime-store psychology.

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama said. "And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

It seems to me that this comment could be interpreted fairly easily as dismissing people who hold views on guns, or religion, or immigration, or trade because they believe in those views -- and not because they're "bitter" or lashing back at a system that has discarded them.

Guns? Church? Immigration reform?

Gads!!! I must be real bitter...

We thought he was just a socialist. Then we learned about him, we realized he was a marxist. Now we see he might be an honest to goodness communist.

Any college Sophomore who would say something like this in the Student Union would be ostracized by (almost) everyone.

This is pure Harvard. How Ivy Leaguers and their wannabees see the real America. It is instructive to note that Obama is so far gone, it never occurs to him that he is being offensive and arrogant.

That's what is so amazing about this nonsense, this supposed Mr. Sensitive and his pals "just don't get it" at all -- now what if someone (hypothetically speaking) were making huge gross over-generalizations about all "people of color" being so bitter and deluded that their judgment is always distorted and they cling to fanatical racist "black liberation" preachers like Reverend Wright, now then Snob-ama might be a little bit upset about that sort of statement, don't you think?....

Is this Obama’s “macaca moment” or his Dean “scream” that will bring his house of cards tumbling down?

This time it wasn’t Wright who said it (and Obama didn’t hear); it wasn’t Michelle who really meant to say (you fill in the blank)...it was Obama himself, caught on tape, denigrating average Americans who have guns, hold to religion and are anti-immigrant.

How condescending!

You got that right! Not only condescending, but downright insulting! What he said was:

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

So he insults gunowners, Christians, and those of us who don't want immigrants taking over our towns and turning them into little Mexicos or little Arabias. He just wrote off a bunch of votes in Pennsylvania.

That the DNC considers Barry Hussein Obama to be the penultimate black candidate to run for office of president says a lot about the bankrupt state of the democrap party

The DNC didn't pick this guy. George Soros did. The last thing the DNC wants is a black radical heading up the party. They are desperate to find a way out of nominating him, which is the only reason Hillary Clinton is still in the race. They all are praying that Obama self-destructs, or at least gives the bosses cover for supporting clinton without having a black uprising on their hands. Sucks to be them these days.

He’s just revealing his REAL self. What did you think a typical left wing liberal/socialists who is just about finished taking over the Democrat Party thinks about most Americans anyway.

They look down on them in this typical condescending fashion.

As Marx said, religion is the opiate of the people. Obama is just expanding on that theme.

Did you really think he was some sort of uniter based on his propaganda? His voting record shows us EXACTLY who he is and this is in character with that.

The irony is that the statement is largely true. They cling to a past that is not only gone but iretrivable. They cling to the things they cherish while sipping the Democrat/union koolaid.

Murtha tells them he will return the area to past glory and they believe him.

Obama’s problem is that the truth is insulting

They are lost forever

Any chance this moron had of winning Pennsylvania just went down the drain if this gets broad circulation. Of course, CBS and NBC ignored it and focused again on Hillary’s slip up about sniper fire.

LOL. As a one of those “typical white people” I must say that Snob-ama has me pegged, I just cling desperately to my small-town idiocies because until now I never had someone like Snob-ama show me the way to ENLIGHTENMENT.

[oooops, wait a minute, my new “Snob-ama meter” is telling me that talking about ‘enlightenment’ is a racially charged and discredited concept, because after all it trades on the contrast of light vs. dark, so it must be inherently racist..... all those “Enlightenment” thinkers were just white racist Europeans after all...... so I guess I should just continue living here in the “dark ages” as a typical white person, but wait a minute, it must be racist to talk about either “dark ages” or “enlightment” so now I’m getting really confused by my new political correctness!!!]
