Unless they’ve changed the law in Texas, I believe a kid of fourteen can get married with parental consent. Of course that’s providing the child also consents.
Arresting 200 individuals to investigate the marital status of one 16 year old girl, seem like it might just be a little overkill, don’t ya think?
I believe the law was changed sometime between 99 and 05.
Let me go look.
The current age is 16, not 14. The 79th Legislature of 2005 changed it from 14 to 16. She wouldn’t have been “grandfathered” in as she would have been, at best, 13 or so when the act went into effect on 1 Sep 2005.
You can read the changes here:

All CURRENT Texas state laws are online and accessible through www.texas.gov. DO NOT TRUST OTHER WEBSITES AS THEY OFTEN HAVE OUTDATED COPIES.
No, that is incorrect. Please see earlier postings in this thread.
Just asking -- is "taken into custody for questioning" the same as an arrest, or having an arrest record? They are trying to find the girl complainant, who is doubtless in fear for her life, and protect the children and possibly other wives taken into underage, incestuous or coerced plural marriages.
It's not like they could just send one social services caseworker to the compound and expect her to straighten it all out.
