Romans 9
God’s Sovereign Choice

1I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it in the Holy Spirit— 2I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, those of my own race, 4the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. 5Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised![a] Amen.

6It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. 7Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”[b] 8In other words, it is not the natural children who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. 9For this was how the promise was stated: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.”[c]

10Not only that, but Rebekah’s children had one and the same father, our father Isaac. 11Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: 12not by works but by him who calls—she was told, “The older will serve the younger.”[d] 13Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”[e]

14What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses,
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”[f] 16It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”[g] 18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

19One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?” 20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’ “[h] 21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?

22What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? 23What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory— 24even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? 25As he says in Hosea:
“I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people;
and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one,”[i] 26and,
“It will happen that in the very place where it was said to them,
‘You are not my people,’
they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’ “[j]

27Isaiah cries out concerning Israel:
“Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea,
only the remnant will be saved.
28For the Lord will carry out
his sentence on earth with speed and finality.”[k]

29It is just as Isaiah said previously:
“Unless the Lord Almighty
had left us descendants,
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.”[l] ...

++++

...Romans 12
Living Sacrifices

1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual[a] act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

3For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his[b]faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
Love

9Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.

17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d]says the Lord. 20On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e] 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

++++++

If you read this far, you have read a good portion of Paul’s letter to the roman church... a proud group of believers. He says it all in these chapters. Read the rest, and measure your joe smith against these words... or just listen to more lies from LDS truthers...

>> Are you still LDS? And if so, why???

Yes I'm LDS. Now should I stop considering myself to be LDS just because I think the LDS church should tell the truth. Or does the title "LDS" only belong to those who think its OK for the church leadership to deceive and lie?

Good answer. Wish I had used that one. They all just call me the Apostate.

Perhaps some of the LDS here need to look into their hearts and ask themselves that very good question. Especially the ones who keep judging us by what is in OUR hearts.

My Gospel? My Gospel is Christ, resurrected that I might live.

Yeah - but it wasn't "restored" by the Peepstone Prophet.

One big problem that many active LDS people have is that they believe the lie that most people quit the church because they were offended or because they don't want to live the commandments. My own research indicates that this perception is very, very wrong. Most who leave the church do so because they frankly don't believe in the key tenets of the RESTORATION that Joseph Smith was a prophet, the Book of Mormon is true, etc. But alas the believer-LDS keep ignorantly going around telling themselves lies.

Interesting that you believe that people have been judged already....That isn't what the Bible says.

Hmmmm you must be using the Joseph Smith Version...

KJV - Hebrews 9:27 - And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

NASV - 27And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,

NIV - 27Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

NKJV - 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,

ESV - 27And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,

I can go on and on here, unless of course its your belief that Joey never died?????

If so, I have a great deal on swamp land in Arizona......

Joseph Smith definitely had a strong sex drive just as Bill Clinton does today. See http://www.i4m.com/think/history/joseph_smith_sex.htm for more on this. If I ever get called to teach Sunday School in the LDS church again I'm going to give a lesson called "Joseph Smith and Sex" as my first lesson.

One big problem that many active LDS people have is that they believe the lie that most people quit the church because they were offended or because they don't want to live the commandments.

And THIS is the "official" stance of the LDS church now.

Ex-Mormons urged to return

"(New) LDS President Thomas S. Monson said members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are ready to welcome "the less active, the offended, the critical, the transgressor" into fellowship."

Exactly as seen on FR, those of us who have left the LDS are accused of being sinners who can't live the commandments.

This statement by Monson was MUCH less an invitation to "return" than a reminder to the "faithful" of how apostates are to be defined, and encouragement to ostracize them lest they, the "faithful" be contaminated.

This is what you would like to have collaborated, but when you read the History of the LDS from letters written at the time you will learn what your nasty minds like to assign to Joseph, there is no proof but heresy, did he was plural wives yes, was with them his itinerary says different.

So all that you and these authors are doing is speculating and fueling your own imagination!

That is called bearing false witness to things you do not understand!

1 Peter 3 (Christ preached unto the spirits in prison.)

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

1 Peter 4 (Why gospel is preached unto the dead—)

1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

There will be a thousand years of peace before the Great and Dreadful Day of the Lord

The body sleeps but the spirit is very much alive.

Sounds like a pretty accurate assessment to me. I must say this thread has been educational. Before this, I had thought of the LDS as mostly just anothe denomination which happened to have some rather strange ideas (sorta like primitive baptists), but after a couple of the things they have said, I have seen the dark spot they have on their hearts... the joy they feel with the suffering of others. Creeeeeeeeppppppy. After speaking with them I feel a need for a long, hot shower with lots of soap.

They need to add to their list “the disgusted, the nauseated..”
