BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Authorities enter Eldorado-area temple (Fundamentalist LDS cult)
Go San Angelo ^ | 5 April 08 | Paul A. Anthony

Posted on 04/06/2008 5:27:22 AM PDT by SkyPilot

Local and state officials entered the temple of a secretive polygamist sect late Saturday, said lawmen blockading the road to the YFZ Ranch near Eldorado.

The action comes hours after local prosecutors said officials were preparing for the worst because a group of FLDS members were resisting efforts to search the structure.

The Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and Schleicher County sheriff’s deputy confirmed that officials have entered the temple but said they had no word on whether anything occurred in the effort.

The incursion into the temple caps the three-day saga of the state’s Child Protective Services agency removing at least 183 women and children from the YFZ Ranch since Friday afternoon. Eighteen girls have been placed in state custody since a 16-year-old told authorities she was married to a 50-year-old man and had given birth to his child.

Saturday evening, ambulances were brought in, said Allison Palmer, who as first assistant 51st District attorney, would prosecute any felony crimes uncovered as part of the investigation inside the compound.

“In preparing for entry to the temple, law enforcement is preparing for the worst,” Palmer said Saturday evening. They want to have “medical personnel on hand in case this were to go in a way that no one wants.”

Apparently as a result of action Saturday night at the ranch, about 10:15 p.m. Saturday, a Schleicher County school bus unloaded another group of at least a dozen more women and children from the compound.

Although members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or FLDS, have provided varying degrees of cooperation to the sheriff’s deputies and Texas Rangers searching the compound, all cooperation stopped once authorities tried to search the gleaming white temple that towers over the West Texas scrub, Palmer said.

“There may be those who would oppose (entry) by placing themselves between law enforcement and the place of worship,” Palmer said Saturday afternoon. “If an agreement cannot be reached … law enforcement will have to — as gently and peaceably as possible — make entry into that place.”

Sect members consider the temple, dedicated by then-leader of the sect Warren Jeffs in January 2005 and finished many months later, off-limits to those who are not FLDS members, said Palmer, who prosecutes felony cases in Schleicher County.

Palmer said she didn’t know the size or makeup of the group inside the temple.

The earlier refusal to provide access was even more disconcerting because CPS investigators have yet to identify the 16-year-old girl or her roughly 8-month-old baby among the dozens removed from the compound, Palmer said.

“Anytime someone says, ‘Don’t look here,’” she said, “it makes you concerned that’s exactly where you need to look.”

The girl told authorities in two separate phone calls a day apart that she was married to a 50-year-old man, Dale Barlow, who had fathered her child, Palmer said.

The joint raid included the Texas Rangers, CPS, Schleicher County and Tom Green County sheriff’s deputies and game wardens from the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife.

Although CPS and Department of Public Safety officials have described the compound’s residents as cooperative, Palmer disagreed.

“Things have been a little tense, a little volatile,” she said.

Authorities removed 52 children Friday afternoon and 131 women and children overnight Friday. About 40 of the children are boys, said CPS spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner.

No further children have been taken into state custody since Friday, when 18 girls were judged to have been abused or be at imminent risk for abuse. CPS has found foster homes for the girls, Meisner said, and will place them after concluding its investigation.

Meisner declined to comment on the fate of the 119 other children and said authorities were still searching the ranch for others Saturday evening.

“They’re in the process of looking,” she said. “They’re literally about halfway through.”

10. Dispensing of Existence: Since the group has an absolute or totalist vision of truth, those who are not in the group are bound up in evil, are not enlightened, are not saved, and do not have the right to exist;

We see this meme repeated over and over by restornu on these threads.

impediments to legitimate being must be pushed away or destroyed

one outside the group may always receive their right of existence by joining the group;

Isn't THIS the message of the thousands and thousands of missionaries?

fear manipulation -- if one leaves this group, one leaves God or loses their salvation/transformation, or something bad will happen to them;

There are those of us with first-hand knowledge of THIS!

the group is the "elite", outsiders are "of the world", "evil", "unenlightened", etc.

There's the Attitude of Superiority.

MORMON
ATTITUDES OF SUPERIORITY

 1. I’m Superior; I have a special gift of the holy Ghost - you don’t!
 2. I’m Superior; I have God’s true priesthood power - you don’t!
 3. I’m Superior; I can go in God’s secret Temple - you can’t!
 4. I’m Superior; I’ve been Endowed with special Gifts and Knowledge - you’re just normal!
 5. I’m Superior; I’ll have my family with me in heaven - you’ll be with strangers!
 6. I’m Superior; I’m becoming a God - you aren’t!
 7. I’m Superior; My women know their place as servants of man and yours don’t.
 8. I’m Superior; YOUR creeds are wrong because they come from man - mine comes from God (you can find each one printed in our Scriptures).
 9. I’m Superior; I don’t HAVE a creed - I’ve got 13 Articles of Faith.
10. I’m Superior; I have four standard works and you only have one — in as far as it is translated correctly.
11. I’m Superior; I can lie with impunity about such things as church membership, church growth, church doctrine, church history, church influence, etc. — and you can’t.
12. I’m Superior; I am right (everybody knows) when I say 'evangelical' Christians are lunatics --
-- You’re a hideous narrow-minded bigot, who is persecuting me by practicing discrimination by saying I'm not  a Christian.
13. I’m Superior; I have a Living Prophet who talks to god every day — you have a dim-witted hireling of Satan who only talks to himself.
14. I’m Superior; I have magic underwear to protect me from the bogey man and you don’t.
15. I’m Superior; I have secret clasps and grips to give the angel so I get admitted to the celestial kingdom — you don’t so you can’t.
16. I’m Superior; I will see Joseph Smith setting on the right hand of GOD, when I get to Mormon heaven, and he will recognize me and judge me favorably —
-- You’re  on your own; when you get to wherever you’re going!
17. I’m Superior; I’m going to hie to Kolob while you’re going to who knows where.
18. I’m Superior; I get to have a harem and act like a celestial stud for time and all eternity and you don’t.
19. I’m Superior; I have sun stones, moon stones, sky stones, cloud stones, Saturn stones, and the evil eye of Osirus guarding my temple — all you have is a stupid cross.
20. I’m Superior; My church has billions in assets stashed away and yours has taken a stupid vow of poverty.

I'm not worried about meeting joey, he's been judged already.

Interesting that you believe that people have been judged already.

That isn't what the Bible says.

I went down the cult categories because 7 raised a interesting point that tweaked my mind. Joey’s polygamy wasn’t just about sex, but the expression of power-like a rapist. Or perhaps, better yet, the alpha male dog taking all the females, just to show his dominance.

And here was my reply:

So are Prophets of God perfect? NO!
Abraham was an adulterer. God gave him a promise of a son, and yet Sarah, who doubted, took matters into her own hands and offered up Hagar as a ‘surrogate’ mother for Abraham’s son. This wasn’t God’s plan at all, and we see what happened as a result....the nation of Islam.

Abraham sinned, he was not perfect. His righteousness was credited to him because of his FAITH and not works. Each man, indeed even prophets, fail and sin. There is no one righteous not ONE. Even Abraham, but his faith MADE him righteous.

The New Testament pays great tribute to Abraham, the man of faith. His name appears 30 times in the gospels, 8 times in Acts (5 in one sermon), and 32 times in the epistles. When a New Testament writer wanted to teach a lesson on the nature of or importance of faith, Abraham was the model. When Paul taught about the righteousness which exists through faith, Abraham was the model (Rom. 4). When Paul taught that all people became the heirs of God’s promises through faith, Abraham was the foundation of the lessons (Gal. 3). In Hebrews’ roll call of the people of faith, one section pays tribute to Abraham’s sojourning and another to his offering of Isaac (Heb. 11). When James taught that obedient works were the natural expression of a living faith, Abraham’s faith was a primary evidence (Jas. 2).

When the Christian properly understands Abraham’s faith which was reckoned for righteousness, he will understand the faith which will allow him to be righteous before God.

I was hardly accusing Abraham of being a Pedophile who couldn’t keep his pants up. Sheesh seven, your twisting and obsfucation is almost an outright lie!

The Lord works from the inside out.
The world works from the outside in.
The world would take people out of the slums.
Christ takes the slums out of people,
and then they take themselves out of the slums.
The world would mold men by changing their environment.
Christ changes men, who then change their environment.
The world would shape human behavior,
but Christ can change human nature.

********************

Sorry, resty, and the others reading this You will never be good enough! God made us this way. Do you really think He made a mistake? You can NOT stop sinning, and it takes just one sin, to die! Big or little, sin is sin in God’s Kingdom, and the only answer is found in the faith in Jesus, not works, not tithing, not multiple wives and godhood aspirations. Joe Smith can’t get you out of the penalties God assesses to sin.

I know God, and Joe smith will never be a god! Your only hope is found in Jesus. Wakeup, and blow away the fog of your indoctrination. Study Scripture, not the rantings of the LDS truth squads... Remember, they are going to lie!
++++

4Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. 5However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness. 6David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7”Blessed are they
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
8Blessed is the man
whose sin the Lord will never count against him.”[b]...

+++++

...Rom 7:
4So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. 5For when we were controlled by the sinful nature,[a] the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. 6But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
Struggling With Sin

7What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “Do not covet.”[b] 8But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead. 9Once I was alive apart from law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death.

11For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death. 12So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good. 13Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! But in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.

14We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[c] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

21So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

Rev911: how so ?

In all the documents I have read Helen never said many of those thing that some author assign to her they are taking great liberties in what they assumed from their worldly point of view.

Even today many confuse the word marriage to mean the way the temporal understand and not the ways of the Lord. This is why these things were not openly discussed. Same as how they twisted that party that Helen could not go to she was sealed in May, that party talked about took place in Dec. So it was not that week or night or whatever.

Marriage to Joseph Smith Jr. See also: Joseph Smith, Jr. and polygamy According to Helen, her father Heber wished to create an eternal link between his family and the family of Joseph Smith Jr. (Anderson & Faulring 1998).[1]

Author Todd Compton describes the reason for the marriage:

“The prophet’s marriage to her seems to have been largely dynastic- a union arranged by Joseph and Heber to seal the Kimball family to a seer, church president, and presiding patriarchal figure of the dispensation of the fullness of times" (Compton 1997, p. 486).

“The prophet’s marriage to her seems to have been largely dynastic- a union arranged by Joseph and Heber to seal the Kimball family to a seer,...

To take this further it is the same when LDS do their family history to be sealed with deceased family members in the temple for all eternity.

In the early summer of 1843, shortly before her fifteenth birthday, Helen’s father Heber described the doctrine of plural marriage to her. He then asked if she would consent to be “sealed to Joseph” (Compton 1997, p. 498). Helen describes her reaction to this proposition,

“My father was the first to introduce it to me, which had a similar effect to a sudden shock of a small earthquake. When he found (after the first outburst of displeasure for supposed injury) that I received it meekly, he took the first opportunity to introduce Sarah Ann [Whitney] to me as Joseph's wife" (Whitney 1880-1883).[2]

Helen took 24 hours to respond to this request, and consented after Smith explained to her that it would ensure her eternal salvation along with that of her family. Helen was ‘’sealed’’ to Joseph Smith in May 1843. The marriage was kept secret, and Helen continued to live with her parents (Anderson & Faulring 1998).

Initially, Helen despised the concept of polygamy, stating that, "seeing the trials of my mother, felt to rebel. I hated polygamy with my heart." Later in her life, however, she became a vigorous defender of the practice and wrote a number of publications praising it (Brodie 1971, p. 479-480;Whitney 1884). With regard to her feelings about Joseph Smith's implementation of the practice, Helen states,

“It was a strange doctrine, and very dangerous too, to be introduced at such a time, when in the midst of the greatest trouble Joseph had ever encountered. The Missourians and Illinoisans were ready and determined to destroy him. They could but take his life, and that he considered a small thing when compared with the eternal punishment which he was doomed to suffer if he did not teach and obey this principle. No earthly inducement could be held forth to the women who entered this order. It was to be a life sacrifice for the sake of an everlasting glory and exaltation" (Whitney 1880-1883).

[edit] Marriage to Horace Whitney
With the death of Smith in 1844, Helen was once again able to associate with her normal peer group, and by age sixteen had formed a relationship with twenty-two year old Horace Whitney. After a period of courtship, the two decided to be “married for time” on February 3, 1846 (Compton 1997, pp. 503-504). Shortly before the exodus from Nauvoo, in the Nauvoo Temple, Helen was married to Horace Whitney for time, and sealed to Joseph Smith Jr. (deceased) for eternity, with her husband Horace standing in as proxy for Smith. The following day Horace was sealed to Elizabeth Sykes (deceased) for eternity, with Helen standing in as proxy for Sykes (Brodie 1971, p. 479-480;Compton 1997, p. 486).

Helen bore eleven children with Horace Whitney (Brodie 1971, p. 479-480).

1- "Time" means married on earth only

2- "Sealed" means this married is for Heaven.

Good morning all. I will respond to all these probably late tonight, but I am asking for your prayers today, despite our differences in theology. I consider you FRiends.

My niece, who has Downs Syndrome will probably not live through the day. She is 24 and has lived as full a life as someone with Downs is expected to. She is a sweet soul who will soon be with her ‘Jesus’.

Thanks in advance for any and all prayers in her behalf and for her family. Her name is Carissa.

Well to read your version of the gospel is not good news!

My Gospel? My Gospel is Christ, resurrected that I might live. I guess your desire to be a god is so much better... My Gospel only promises etenity with Him.

I just consider LDS followers, as ignorant, and trying hard, to remain that way! I will use Scripture, since that is God's word... ******
