Paulbots Attempt to Hijack County Republican Convention Process
3.30.08 | me

Down here in Galveston County, the Ron Paul bots tried to hijack the convention using subterfuge and tactical advantage of surprise, that would have made al Queda proud (high-placed sleeper, multiple coordinated attacks with a goal of causing a larger scale effect at the State convention and later at the National convention.

Unfortunately for them it was discovered and thwarted for the most part by perceptive Republicans that took action and alerted others to help block their efforts. But it did make for a long and chaotic mess.

Like jihadists, they took advantage of a weak Party leadership in transition and general apathy of Party activists and precinct delegates.

A high level trusted elected official used the opportunity of a sick convention coordinator, a lame duck Party chairman and an honorary convention chair that did nothing but show up to give a speech at the start of the convention, to appoint weak commitee chairmen and pack key committees (Nominee, Credentials and Platform) with Paulbots, who had never been active in the Party before. To cover the obvious, a few "go-along" follower types were added to the committees to ensure the Paulbot block vote would not be challenged.

I sat in on the Resolutions/Platform committee after seeing some disturbing planks in the draft Platform. I witnessed a shocking railroad job of a Libertarian platform pushed through with highly questionable planks voted through with little opposition. Including one listing a list of complains against Sen. McCain and stating a no confidence in him as the Party's nominee. This was later removed in a heated floor fight.

Also the trusted official tried to get a change to the rules to allow people that had not voted in the Primary to be allowed to considered as State delegates. Supposedly to allow his daughter who had just turned 18 to go to State as a delegate (an understandable excuse.) But because I had been alerted to the plot to stack the nominations and Credentials committees, I knew that this could also be used to let Libertarians, who had not voted in the Republican Primary to be rammed through as sleeper Ron Paul delegates, merely by swearing to a worthless Party loyalty oath. The Parliamentarian eventually figured out that it was against State Party rules and it was withdrawn, before I could get my turn at the mic to explain the potential hazard of our entire SD delegations being disqualified at the State convention by the Credentials committee discovering that some of our delegates had not voted in the Primary.

They even had the audacity to add Bob Smither to the Nominating committee. Spither ran in the 2006 General election as the Libertarian Party candidate for CD 22. He didn't show up to the convention, but it was a clear evidence of a concerted Libertarian plot to hijack the Nominations process.

Eventually things worked out in a long and painful floor fight.

Most of the State delegates and alternates ended up being known Republicans, but there were a few that made it, that I didn't recognize as well as quite a few known Ron Paul supporters. So don't be surprised if other Paulbots make it to the State convention in Texas and elsewhere and try to infiltrate the State committees and attempt other mischief in a vain attempt to push Ron Paul as a viable nominee over McCain.

Although we are not thrilled with McCain as the presumptive Republican nominee, we cannot allow the resulting Party angst and apathy to be exploited by another Party, the Libertarians (and their radical Left and Right Paulbots) to hijack our State and National conventions.

If you doubt my observations, check out some of their stated plans:

"Delegates must VOID McCain's wins !!!" http://www.ronpaulforum.com/showthread.php?t=307129

: The delegates in these states need to file the motion at their conventions : for Mccain to be revoked of all his delegates in those states for failure : to comply with election ballot state law requirements.

"Republicans have choice - Ron Paul supporters tend to fall into two camps. Some believe he may still pull off a David vs." Ron Paul Topix forum http://www.topix.com/forum/us-house/ron-paul/TJQJFHLSRLIGG4PJA

: We held down the fort in Texas. Delegates at the least representing : Paul's platforms are in place.

: Ron Paul Supporter, : Dr. Aaron Benfield : Austin, Tx

Yup! Agree with you completely. However, I am convinced the WMD are in Iraq.

Well Iraq is about as large as California. There's plenty of real estate to hide things.

[... what exactly is so distasteful to you? ...]

I was quoting Nextrush. Ron Paul is NOT distasteful to me.
In fact, the more I read about him, the more impressed I become.

Oops, meant to say “Iraq AND Syria”.

I remember watching the reports from imbedded reporters
who carried chemical test kits. They were finding rads
all over the desert in desserted cache’s and bunkers.
They were following right behind the UN and US Military
with their chemical test kits. All were coming up with
the same conclusion... The WMD were there RECENTLY!

That FNC video is in the archives somewhere.

well, a lot of the folk who infiltrated are not Republicans...

http://travismonitor.blogspot.com/2008/03/another-report-sd-14-convention.html

Gardiner Selby (Statesman) - Paul supporters win one, lose one. As in, they took over SD-25, lost the SD-14: “Robert McDonald, an Austin CPA elected the permanent chair of the county’s GOP SD 25 convention, said he won the post by about 17 votes—after which some of what he called the old guard walked out, including the temporary chairman, Brian Padden.”

McDonald was Libertarian Party candidate in 2006 for JP precinct 3, helping to defeat Republican Melissa Goodwin in that race. Libertarian Wes Benedict does the high-fives over it. It looks more and more like we really dodged a bullet in the SD-14 convention.

No, they are libertarians (small-l) some Libertarian Party some GOP ... found a very telling comment. Some LP folks are seeing the excitement for Ron Paul and realize (duh!) that the LP doesnt have a fraction of the wattage he does. So they are joining the GOP and are eager to influence the party that way:

http://www.reason.com/blog/show/124903.html

I joined the Libertarian Party in 1972. I do not regret the 35 years I donated, worked, and voted for them. However, the time and opportunity has come to take control of the Republican party from the Nixonian Neo-Cons.

Previously finding other like-minded liberty loving people was a big obstacle. The internet and meetup groups have made this easy. Third parties try to do things back-asswards, attempting to get national exposure. If Libertarian and Constitution party members will join the Republican party at the county level, they can get control. Control the county parties and the state will follow. Control the individual state parties and the national party will be controlled as well.

At the aggregate meeting before we broke into precinct caucuses, motions were made for the party platform. This was my motion: “Republicans should once again stand for fiscal responsibility and stop spending like drunken sailors and Democrats.” After the cheering, the motion passed with a 100% yes vote.

In my Precinct (I was the PCO) were sent 6 delegates, myself included, to the county convention. All are Ron Paul supporters.
After banging my head against a brick wall for all these years, this is going to be easy.

Note that if you take out the gold-buggery, love for gay marriage and isolationism, you’ve got a limited Government, profreedom group of people. We can do business with them.

The real dilemma for me is that the enemies in the region from Syria to Iran to Al-Quaeda hideouts in Pakistan are off limits to military action at this point. (other than the drones hitting a leader or two)

We are limiting our military efforts in the region and I do get a bad feeling about that.

Meanwhile Condi Rice is squeezing concessions out of the weak Israeli government of Olmert for a supposed “peace agreement” with the Palestinian Authority.

A deal that isn’t worth anything because the bad guys like Hamas and Hezbollah, along with their Syrian, Iranian etc. backers are still there.

That’s the real problem with Iraq and Afghanistan policy that’s covered by the patriotic static of support for our troops operating with their hands tied like in Vietnam.

I’m not a Paulista Pullout and frankly I’m more worried about the Bush Boggers who wave the flag and stop short of dealing decisively with our enemies.

In war there is no substitute for victory and we must wage an all-out war to win in all places.

I think we should't have stopped at Baghdad. I think Assad's head should have already been put up on a pike. I think we also should have taken out our revenge on the mullahs in Iran.

I and other Republicans protect our Party’s principles (ideals and platform) not our Principals (our elected officials that happen to have an “R” next to their name.)

We have been negligent in electing Republican candidates at the State and National level that we can easily defend, but the Primary election is where we need to put up strong conservative alternative candidates to get rid of the deadwood.

What the Paulbots are doing is attempting to hijack the GOP in a clandestine, coordinated manner, which is not consistent with Republican values. But apparently you are ok with their liberal “ends justify the means” approach.

jinxspinx - Since Mar 30, 2008

Since when did genuinely wanting to be involved in the process become a desire to hijack the process?

Welcome to FR also. ;)

Libertarian leaning Republicans have been welcomed and involved in the GOP for decades. This was a covert, coordinated effort to undermine the Republican Party by an outside organization - radical leftists posing as libertarians.

Their objective is not to merely tilt the GOP Platform towards libertarian views or even to vault Ron Paul into a long shot GOP nominee. It is to cripple the GOP grassroots to ensure that their Democrat nominee, pushed by their leftists "brothers in arms" in the Democrat Party, gets elected President along with a liberal controlled Democrat Congress.

This is a political coup d' estate by the radical left to take this country very far away from the ideals that Ron Paul and his libertarian followers claim to support. And many Paulbots are more than willing to assist, like Stalin's useful idiots did.

If what you say is true, then their efforts appear to have weakened the GOP, not by tilting it toward libertarianism but by splitting and alienating libertarians and constitutionalists from the party. And there wasn’t any shortage of people willing to lend a hand with that.

So, conservatives who are dissatisfied with the current leftward gallop of the party are left with two options:

1.) Leave the Republican party, vote for Libertarians or other fringe candidates, and get harshly criticized for not sticking with the GOP and trying to improve it from within.

or,

2.) Stay with the Republican party, attempting to actively move it rightward, and get harshly criticized for “hijacking the party”.

A lose-lose scenario, but I’ll go with #1.

It is obvious to me that you have not read the republican party platform.

Well you would be wrong in your assumption then.

If you had, you would know that almost all of Ron Paul’s views are in it.

The key word is almost.

My point isn't whether or not Ron Paul's views are consistent with most of the Republican platform or not.

These interlopers are not pushing Ron Paul's agenda, they are merely using him and his followers to interject radical leftist issues into the Republican platform and put leftists higher into the Republican Party's convention process.

Ron Paul knows he is going no where, but he is willing to benefit financially from this leftist plot, so he shares at least some culpability for this.

He will surely find his last 3 years in office very lonely.

Well said. If this kind of mini-operation-chaos stuff is all it takes to start up the whiny spouting about terrorist tactics, boy, is the GOP in the $#!##er.

You "Statists" in the GOP establishment have been given a courtesy wake up call! What you choose to do with it is up to you, but I and others in the Ron Paul Revolution are here to serve notice that your days in power are numbered. This Revolution is not just about Ron Paul, but rather about a freedom like that intended by the framers of the U.S. Constitution when they wrote the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Like the mythical "Phoenix" if you strike one of us down, another one even more powerful will arise in his ashes.

I have laughingly read the accounts published herein regarding the great accomplishments of the alleged "good guys" in the G.O.P. "Establishment" with regards to how they have "thwarted" the onslaught of the "Paulistas" in several county and SD conventions, most notably, in Galveston and Nueces counties in Texas.

Having been both a loyal Republican and a Christian for over 35 years, I resent the accusation that those of us who believe in the cause of liberty are somehow not Republicans. Unlike G.W. Bush who can't seem to distinguish between a "democracy" and a Republic, we at least understand, support, and promote the Republican concept of government. That many of you support people like G.W. Bush and John McCain is a clear signal that you care more about preserving the G.O.P. party and your own power than preserving our nation.

I recall how the alleged "Christian Right" leaders, who currently hold the reins of power in the G.O.P., (before you start throwing rocks, I once considered myself among their number and even attended some of the strategy meetings preceding their takeover of the GOP, thus I have the right to criticize) used the same "tactics" they now accuse Ron Paul supporters of using when they took over the party from the "Eastern Establishment" Rockefeller Republicans. If it were not so preposterous and pathetic, this accusation would be laughable. While you might previously have been able to convince newcomers to the party that such "tactics" are unfair, you no longer have that advantage as I have blown your cover.

My advice to those of you who fall in this category is to get over it folks. Our tactics, which are nothing more than proper usage of Roberts Rules of Order, are both legal and ethical, and they the very crux of the political process; such tactics have been used since the inception of modern political parties. This Revolution has both legs and a soul, and, no matter who is elected, whether it be McCain, Clinton, or Obama, everything in which many of you claim to believe will be destroyed by any one of them. In this election, we essentially have a choice between two Marxists and a Communist. I will let the reader draw his own conclusions who is who.

I would like to caution the "Statists" among you regarding the objective of the Borg in Star Trek, when I boldly say "Resistance is futile, You will be assimilated!" You are destined for defeat because your motives (i.e. - holding on to your own power and prestige at all costs) are impure and will be trumped by the pure objectives of those of us in the Revolution which are to preserve our freedom and sovereignty; we are determined that our children and grandchildren will enjoy the same freedoms as those granted to all of us by the U.S. Constitution. Neither you nor the powers of hell shall prevail over our doing our duty to preserve the concept of liberty. We are well prepared to carry out that which we were called to accomplish, and if G.W. Bush, John McCain, Hillary Clinton, or B. Hussein Obama don't like it, tough!

The likes of John McCain, G.W. Bush, Rick Perry, Hillary Clinton, and B. Hussein Obama care only about maintaining their own power, prestige, and increasing their own wealth while promoting and pursuing the cause of "democracy," rather than a republican form of government.

McCain is now waging a feeble attempt to convince conservatives that he is one of them in order to trick them into voting for him exactly like G.W. Bush did in 2000. Some of us fell for Bush's deception and look what we got. Why should we believe a charlatan like John McCain?

McCain has even promised that he will continue the Bush tax cuts and many of you have chosen to believe him. How does anyone who is sane think he can or will deliver on that promise when just last week he said that we need a new Kyoto style agreement, which is nothing more than a global income tax cooked up by the likes of Algore with his "carbon credits," which is designed to punish and ultimately destroy the U.S.

Oh, you argue, we must have a Republican in office to appoint judges to the Supreme Court because of what Hillary or Obama will do in that area.

What a great argument. May I remind you that Republicans (Ford, self-admitted globalist G.H.W. Bush, and yes, even Ronald Reagan) appointed some of the most left leaning liberal activist judges in recent history (the ones that most of you purport to detest) including Souter, Kennedy, O'Connor, and Stevens.

The most egregious Judicial appointment of all (and the one whom most of you in the current GOP leadership love to hate), alleged Republican Earle Warren, former Republican Governor of California and Dewey's Vice Presidential candidate was appointed by Republican Dwight Eisenhower, who at least had the foresight to warn us of the dangers of an alliance with the Military-Industrial complex in his farewell address despite setting in motion the destruction of the U.S. Constitution when he appointed Earle Warren to the Supreme Court. Perhaps he finally realized the error of his decision.

So, my friends, when even the likes of the great Ronald Reagan can be deceived by activist, left-leaning judicial candidates, what makes you think that John McCain will be any different. At least we know the kind of individuals Ron Paul will nominate to fill the certain vacancies in the Supreme Court. As one who has followed Ron Paul since 1983, I can categorically state that what he says today is the same that he said then. What a concept in modern politics!

For those of you with short memories, Ron Paul is the one who gave back to the American citizens the right to own gold after Roosevelt stole it in 1933. Those among you making fun of Ron Paul should be ashamed of yourselves after the FED Debacle and power grab that occurred just this week! Please, Mr. FED, can I have some more? I even brought the Vaseline! Gag me with a spoon!

Since the Democrats typically cannot get their Marxist agenda across at the ballot box, they rely heavily on stacking the judiciary with their stooges who will legislate from the bench. As a true believer in our Constitution and the sovereignty of this nation, Ron Paul will carefully vet his nominations to the judiciary. We cannot count upon John McCain to do that since he has for years given the finger to both the voters and the Constitution with the likes of McCain/Feingold, open borders, amnesty for illegals, and McCain/Kennedy. He has shown us for years his true colors but there are still those amongst us who think he will somehow be different than that which he appears to be.

How can those of you who criticize the Ron Paul Revolution swallow the Kool-Aid on that issue? All we want to do is insure the sovereignty of our beloved nation and stop the assault on our Constitution. Shame on those of you who have abandoned that objective and who demonize those of us who are fighting the battle to preserve both.

Furthermore, it is disingenuous to call Ron Paul a Libertarian because he has been a Republican throughout his political life except when he ran against self-admitted globalist George Herbert Walker Bush in 1988. Ron Paul is more properly termed a "libertarian republican" which simply means that he is a republican who loves liberty. N.B. I used no capitals here which is the proper usage.

The remnant of what was once the Conservative Republican party is a disgrace to all who love liberty. Those of you who denigrate Ron Paul but who call on the name or Reagan should read what the great Renaldus Maximus said about Ron Paul. Don't take my word for it. You can watch it for yourself here:

As Ronald Reagan once said about the Democrat party, "I didn't leave the party, the party left me," and I now boldly say the same thing about the current leadership of the Republican party, from Globalist nation builder George Walker Bush, to Rick Perry, to the likes of party hacks like Rick Perry's hand picked state chairman Tina Benkiser, Bobby Eberle, Travis county chairman Alan Sager, Fascists like Nueces County Republican Chairman Mike Bertuzzi and Galveston County GOP Chairman Kerry Neves, and the rest of the vermin who currently infest the party leadership. Go ahead, Make my Day!

To those of you who will swallow the Kool-Aid and vote for McCain for the good of the party with the hope that he will somehow be better than the Hildabeast or B. Hussein Obama, I would like to talk to you about purchasing a bridge in Arizona that sits on oceanfront property.

As Patrick Henry once said, "I know not what course others may take, but for me, Give me liberty or give me death!"

Finally, your pathetic comments about Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos are further indicators that speak to your complete ineptitude regarding the use of political tactics that are more properly directed at one's opponents rather than members of their own party.

John McCain and many other Republicans appear to be more concerned about what the opponents think of them than getting out the truth and clearly defining for the electorate the differences between themselves and their opponents, thus they refuse to do what must be done when fighting an enemy to win; thankfully Rush Limbaugh (who is no supporter of Ron Paul, BTW) has stepped in to give them a taste of their own medicine. I rather enjoy watching the Hildabeast and Hussein Obama clawing at each other's throats while spending millions in the process.

After all, as recently as last December, rumors of John McCain's complete meltdown abounded, but, thanks to the Democrats, the "Eastern Liberal Republican Establishment," and the Drive-By Media, our candidate was purposely chosen by these enumerated above rather than by conservative Republicans because McCain is perceived as the weakest of all of the Republicans running. Make no mistake about it; the Fix is in and it has been determined that is Obama's turn, so you might as well get accustomed to saying "President Obama."

I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid, to think and act for myself, to enjoy the benefits of my creation, and to face the world boldly and say -- This I have done!
