UN: Ban Ki-moon condemns Internet posting of anti-Koran video

New York, 28 March (AKI) - United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon on Friday strongly condemned the posting to the Internet of a film by rightwing Dutch politician Geert Wilders, describing it as “offensively anti-Islamic,” while he also called on those upset by the film to remain calm.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson after Thursday's posting by Wilders of the film, entitled Fitna, to a video-sharing website, Ban (photo) said: "There is no justification for hate speech or incitement to violence. The right of free expression is not at stake here."

“I acknowledge the efforts of the Dutch Government to stop the broadcast of this film and appeal for calm to those understandably offended by it. Freedom must always be accompanied by social responsibility.”

The UN is seeking to play a pivotal role in global efforts to advance mutual respect, understanding and dialogue between different cultures, religions and groups, he noted.

“We must also recognise that the real fault line is not between Muslim and western societies, as some would have us believe, but between small minorities of extremists, on different sides, with a vested interest in stirring hostility and conflict.”

In 2005 Spain and Turkey established the Alliance of Civilisations under the auspices of the UN to promote better cross-cultural relations around the world. Ban appointed the former Portuguese president Jorge Sampaio last year as the alliance's top representative.

"I lead the UN;
Possess no gonads;
Who am I?"

Is EVERYONE associated with the UN a complete tool, with no respect for civil rights, and a fearful coward to dhimmitude?

George Bush and/or Condoleeza Rice and/or John McCain are complete cowards for not reading the United Nations the riot act over this.

“Freedom must always be accompanied by social responsibility.”

Ah, yeah screw the law. Only socialists believe social responsibility trumps the letter of the law when they want to infringe on the rights of free people.

He needs to say, “Freedom must always be accompanied by law and order.”

Well, I suppose I should give them a little time... but is there anyone who thinks they WILL complain about the United Nations calling for censorship of political discourse? (I sure hope I’m wrong, but I’ll be knocked out of my chair if they do.)

"The UN is seeking to play a pivotal role in global efforts to advance mutual respect, understanding and dialogue between different cultures, religions and groups cave in to Islamic fundamentalists, to capitulate to murderers, and to enable the downfall of modern civilization, he noted."

Fixed it.

“”There is no justification for hate speech or incitement to violence.”

Of course he won’t denounce those who make death threats against filmmakers. They were “provoked”. They really ARE peaceful. If only we’d give them a chance to be peaceful. Except when they spout antisemitism...

Just when the UN’s retirement benefits started to look good, someone woke him up.

“Freedom must always be accompanied by social responsibility.”

He's right, freedom should be accompanied by social responsibility. Unfortunately he doesn't get to decide what is responsible then order it by decree.

I finally found one reason to vote FOR McCain. He recently said he would like to start a new alliance of just democracies. He would ignore the UN.

The UN is run by dictators and murderers, so they are of no possible use to civilized people. If McCain would beat this drum, he might get a few more votes.

Isn’t this amazing, you put their words to film, and are considered hate mongering, they seem to have learnt from the Democrats, put their words to light and you are playing dirty politics.

I guess he’s saying that murder is ok but protesting against it is hate speech.

Question.

Has this Moon guy ever seen the film yet?

It's a recap of Muslim Terrorists since 2001. Stuff you can find on the nightly news.

Get a freaking life, Moon. Go back to the hole where you came from, useless POS.

Or mention the middle name of one of their candidates.

Bud, the desires of those folks are realized in the U.N. They’re not going to trash what they think is the world’s best hope. I know a lot of people refuse to believe this, but if you look at the goals of the U.N. and the goals of these people, you’ll sooner or later realize they are one and the same.

Truth in advertising... truth in packaging... just keep your eyes open and realize that not everything that is happening today is attributed to precisely where it originated or to the organization that is ultimately driving it.

Globalism. Open borders. Binding trade agreements that cover much more than trade. The E.U. An N.A.U. An A.U. The F.T.A.A. Where do you think this stuff comes from? Just well meaning U.S. Citizens?

Shove it Moon. I found the Muzzies’ actions on 09-11-01 “offensive” (You’d have to be an American to understand).
