Idol contestant, Kristy Lee Cook, brings down the American Idol House tonight with rendition of Lee Greenwood's mega hit: |
Good point. That’s another problem with donating to efforts like this. You don’t know what they are going to do with your money, who it’s going to wind up supporting.
I noticed in one of their segments that it looked very much like illegal aliens were being gifted with part of the donations.
That’s going to win a lot of support... /s
Yes, in California- a run down, boarded up rental slum (probably owned by those walking the red carpet) of a town, where the mayor and all officials should be ashamed, where the principal of the school was the only one who ventured on camera.
The Children were most likely of illegal alien status . In the Limousine Land of the liberal Sreisands, bling bling recording artists sporting diamond watches as big as your fist, moguls who bring in hundreds of millions in personal wealth from this Entertainment Industry; and then just a few miles Idol judges, Randy and Paula, show the world kids of this same extended Hollywoodland that are starving, afraid to go outside of their homes because of gang violence. We cannot blame these young kids, especially the one that, from the back of the limo, gave a tour of his slum of a town. His hopes for a playground where they can play safely was his dream. Catch in the background a bigger kid swinging a board or like object at another younger kid? In a land where the priority of paying for cable and cell phone service for a year can cost more than buying one's own health insurance.
I am just P$$$'d off in general at Liberals and what they think is their "land of self-serving milk and honey opportunity" - our Federal government, so should take a break. Damn politics sneaks in on a "talent show" that gives one just a few minutes of drug-free escapism from the controversy of the day.
Understand writers may go on strike again---their next target=American Idol!
(grumbles)
I can hear the frustration in your words. We’re together on that. I honestly couldn’t stomach watching that show in it’s entirity. Surprisingly, I taped it. I’m going to keep it for posterity. I like documenting how idiotic the left can be, and this was a doozie IMO.
I am just frustrated with our government in general. Even my state government, in a state I truly love, has no end to raising taxes, as they have never been able to curb spending. Republicans talk the talk, but walk along side the libs when it's time to walk the talk. There is not one candidate running for President that I want to stand behind. Think on voting day in November we (both parties) should all go stand on our state government steps to send a message to Washington: "You're All Fired!"
I went to the movie (not good to see if you are disgusted with everything going on)Stop-Loss. The film is well done. You must, first of all, leave your political banner at the door. Stop-Loss is about tours of duty unexpectedly extended- A contract broken by our government to some of our military. (perhaps 30,000 of 650,000 but still...) No one in the film is anti-American. Even the newly blinded soldier, with limbs missing is positive and laughing with his friend, saying the hospital he is in is doing everything they could for him. He jokes and always carries a smile on his face. He flexes the hand of his artificial limb. Another plays pool with 3 artificial limbs. Critics that you read never saw the film, if they think this is an anti-war film. It is raw and truthful. Difficult to accept the truth of war and what it does to our soldiers. We take so much for granted.
Was not a good film for me to see today given all the BS we see around us each day, but twisted as it may seem, am glad I did.
Support our troops means a blank check to recovery, if they have fallen in battle. Sadly, saw a guy interviewed elsewhere who has had many surgeries rebuilding his face, new ears attached, burned over a large percentage of his body, some brain damage. His wife says he wants her to leave him. A numbers cruncher in an office somewhere in Washington cut the money cord, now the soldier will pay out of pocket for the rest of his reconstruction. That is completely incomprehensible to me.
See you next week.
Although I thought the arrangements, musical and choral, were not the best I have heard, I thought the nation and the viewers were blessed to have the song “Shout to the Lord” given such prominent positions, both Wednesday and Thursday nites.
Yes, thanks for pointing out the positive!
I read an article the other day that documented the actual numbers of troops that have been stop lossed. The media makes it sound like 75 to 90% of our troops are being forced to do second tours. I don’t remember now the exact figures, but it was less than 25% overall, and of that 25% many had volunteered to re-up. Re-up rates are quite significant, so that led me to wonder just how many are actually being forced to take a second tour. Truth be known, I’ll bet it’s a very small number. It’s mostly our media doing it’s damndest to cast any negative light on the war effort it can.
That being siad, I view this movie about war injured to be somewhat of an attempt to cast a dark shadow over the war effort, even if done in the best possible way. You state that it is a positive film about war casualties and I din’t have any reason to disagree with you. I must say though, at a time when the left in the United States is trying to capitalize on our casualties, I find it unfortunate timing that this movie would come out now. It’s something the left can point to “that doesn’t have any bias”, but it still buttresses their claim that this war is uncalled for and that our young men and women are paying for it while Bush and his daughters skate unharmed.
Is there one movie among the bunch that heralds the imporvements in the daily lives of the Iraqis? Is ther a movie out that explains what was going on before we entered Iraq, how devilish the terrorist have been and how many have died at their hands, and how much better things are now? No.
For all the supposed honesty about what is taking place, only negative movies are being made. Our troops sacrifices made to seem all for nothing.
I destest this media contrived situation, propaganda from one end of the nation to the other, non-stop.
Shameful.
Lest you think I don’t care about our veterans, that is not the case. I still think movies like this no matter how evenhanded, still provide fodder for the aiders and abetters of terrorism.
I do appreciate the report. In between wars, I’m all for seeing it. During a conflict where the left has done everything in it’s power including meeting with our enemies for possible coordination of efforts, not interested.
However, it is Patriotic, the call to return comes after some buddies in a small Texas town have returned awarded with Purple Hearts etc, proud of their service; file in to finish with the details of paperwork and find their tours are not over but because of their value and not many Americans now jumping to take their place; a decision made by someone in some little office somewhere to reuse these guys(ladies)as if they are not People but are just soldiers on a "war board". One of the characters who is a young decorated officer was drawn into an ally in a hot pursuit of being fired on at a watch point, several of his men and others were injured. They were the New Family, that comes from fighting a war.
The young officer blamed himself for taking his men the boxed in alley and into a house to house combat situation. One of his friends under him (they all enlisted together)would dig a fox hole in his front yard at night. He felt safe there, there are flashbacks, hallucinations which tip violent in situations not accepted within the family etc. One committed suicide but drinking had a lot to do with his actions. They came home, hung out at a local country bar, hailed as heroes and drank heavily trying to adjust to being back..they were all young, from supporting families. One was anxious to get back and serve, he felt it was his duty to serve, his country came first. So it is for all people, does address what these fighting men and women go through, the good times, the bad, the decisions made come by these small town Texas young guys just out of high school and then enlisting. I will jump ahead to the end to say the lead character will come to understand, after dealing with his own demons, what it means to be living free in America. It is raw, real; we often have to take the bad with, the good.
"Whether designed with a pacifist agenda or simply intended to make the case for a return of the draft, this compelling saga compassionately establishes that Iraq War veterans shouldn't have to be wounded physically to be considered damaged goods - FILMSTEW.COM". |
This film is not propaganda. It does not aid the enemy in anyway, if anything it shows the strength, determination, generosity of character, camaraderie and enormous spirit of our brave fighting men and women against odds I cannot even begin to fathom.
You cannot make a film like this, without anger, frustration in comments, blame directed perhaps to those that may deserve it for their "fat ass in an office in Washington for some political decision making.., but they contend they are fighting a war in another land, so they will not have to fight it at home. There is a coffin in one scene where the vision of the deceased gives Bush the finger. You have to get through that as it is real life, not escaping that some feel that way, whether we want to accept it or not. He served his country, and if he feels he wants to give Bush the finger-it's a free country and I think even the President would understand.
A soldier's remark " can't we just drop a 10 ton bomb on the place and get it over with?" "Why won't they just allow us to just do our job? Politics to blame.
I am a Conservative, I support Bush in more than you would think; and I liked this film. I understood this film. We go about our business each day forgetting those men and women are stuck in that Hell hole, while we write on FR or do whatever the Hell we do to fill our day. They fight for our right to do "whatever we do each day".
The trailer. I believe, is very misleading and perhaps saves face for the Industry from which it must survive $$ to get made. War effects many lives up close and personal. It is more about would a draft have spared these men, even though it is never addressed openly.
I had reservations at the very start of the film, as I was not sure what the film was all about. I thought oh oh a Michael Moore type propaganda docu-drama type film. I would have walked out, if it had been, as some Yahoo reviewers (as an example) might claim as have briefly read but from the comments know they have not seen the film. The professional reviwers, for the most part, I can read their politics as they want to make it their own.
I’m back! Sorry it took me so long in case you noticed. Sometimes there aren’t enough hours in the day!
I see exactly what you mean about Carly’s video. Wow, I just got dizzy watching that room, stuff flying around and her hair going all over the place! I think she has a very good voice and actually, her style seems much different now. More of a rocker than pop. Do you know that Kristy Lee put out a CD in 2005? I found this on rickey.org:
“In 2007, Kristy Lee Cook got out of her contract with her manager Marty Rendleman (who formerly managed LeAnn Rimes) so she could be eligible to join American Idol this season. In 2001, she signed with Arista Nashville, BMI records and Superstar Spears (a production company of Britney Spears). It is not known when she was dropped by those labels, but she never recorded a CD with those companies. In 2005, Kristy Lee Cook released her debut CD Devoted under Ren-Hen Records (which is the label of Kristy Lee Cooks former management company). Kristy Lee Cook also worked with the Kim Dawson Modeling Agency.”
So here we go, another unfair advantage, or is it? The rules state you cannot have a current contract, past contracts are acceptable. So does that mean we need to go digging up information on all the contestants? Obviously, they all have had some form of training and experience in one way or the other. Do they need to change the rules? Should we just say the heck with it and not watch? Or what’s the big deal? Just vote for the best talent and ignore the rest. Are we taking it way too seriously?
No doubt, Johns was ripped off. I didn’t notice Jason not stand up but I did notice while the girls were crying and the other guys were surprised, he was not bothered one bit. Of course not because he once again made it through!
I like Ryan overall too, but he can be annoying and a dingo like you said. Sometimes I do enjoy him giving it to Simon and it can be funny. At times, I count on Simon to judge honestly when the others don’t seem too but then other times I don’t agree at all with him and I hate him. I have a love/hate relationship with him as I am sure many viewers have too! He does tell it like it is and the critiques are to help the contestants. Johns was very good at listening to the judges and taking their advice to better himself.
Danny Noriega is the little sweetie (guy) you were talking about. IMO, he is gay even if he mentioned dating some girls. Maybe he goes both ways and that might be TMI! His attitude rubbed me the wrong way and he wasn’t gone soon enough for me. He gave Simon backtalk, didn’t own up to choosing the wrong song and was gone. Simon is dead on quite a bit.
I think the fans should have a say in it, after all they are buying the albums, but then again, the judges really have a good ear for talent most of the time. So what is the answer for it being more fair? I am not 16 but I do spend dollars CD’s. I am the proud owner of Daughtry’s and Carrie Underwood’s debut CD’s. That’s my good deed and contribution to them selling millions of copies! Based on that, I think I have a pretty good judge of talent, but who am I? LOL Just one in a sea of millions that thinks the same thing. I compare my notes weekly to 2 other friends and we all agree that David Cook rocks. If he does perform well, we are going to vote as much as we can and see if any of our family and friends want to vote. Can’t take anything for granted and especially after what happened with Michael Johns.
At this point, my money is on David Cook and I am going to do what I can to make sure another ROCKER doesn’t fall through the cracks. It would be nice at least once for a Rocker to prevail and win the title of “American Idol”!
As I said earlier, I just watched a piece on a returning military guy who has just had his medical stopped in regard to more surgeries, practically pasted his whole face back together, some brain damage..wears a shirt patriotic in nature. He will find a way to pay to finish putting himself back to gether. No more money for this guy, says the little number cruncher in Washington; but you will see in this article on the Top Cop Iraqi Judge, the billions we have had stolen, the cases he has investigated for the United States..the day the terrorists sent the missile for him. Those billions were to provide for the safety of our military while overseas, in training Iraqi military/police, equipment and money that should be spent on their medical needs when returning home. Then the Judge who is one of the good guys, is treated in the manner which you will see after he and his family are brought to America. Good God, Washington is so screwed up!
That's why I am angry..our waste and the corruption rampid in this war...the incompetency in Washington on both sides of the aisle.
So American Idol, a couple days a week, for a couple hours is my form of escape... ;)

Folks in rural Oregon cheer Kristy Lee Cook on ‘Idol’

Thanks for the article on Kristy. Those folks in rural Oregon have a lot to be proud about. Wow, 6oo votes in a couple of hours? So, what do you think about Kristy and Carly putting out CD’s and now on American Idol? I know what you think about Carly. I think this week will be really interesting. Mariah Carey is the theme. Not crazy about that, but hopefully it will be OK.
I can tell you that I haven’t forgotten our men and women for a moment since they went over there.
I appreciate your take on it, and see the reasons behind it. Having not seen the movie, I can only tell you what my take is on an even handed film of this sort, and I think the timing is awful.
I now it strikes you different, and I’m not here to say you are wrong at all.
You take care.
Don’t worry about it. Respond when you can.
Thanks for the comments about Carly. Not much more to say there, but I hadn’t realized that Kristy had also been signed prior to this. My orignial understanding was that this show was supposed to take young untamed talent and give them a shot at stardom. It does tarnish my perception to find out otherwise. Carrie Underwood is my idea of what the show is all about. She lived on a farm. She tried out. She continued to grow through the competition, and she won. Then she went on to super-stardom.
Well, they must do background checks on the contestants. Can’t imagine they would allow just anyone to become a part of the show. Anyone not giving full disclosure should be jetesoned. That being said, the current kids may not have broken the rules at all. I just like the original untouched concept. Others may not see it that way.
As for Johns and the fans, I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be a little wiser to allow the public to vote, but only give their vote a 25% share of the total vote. Then give Randy, Paula and Simon 25% each, to complete the vote at 100%. This would protect talent like Johns from being jetesoned because of puppy love. I like to use Sanjaya as an example. He stayed while at least three people with more talent were voted off. It was becoming a big joke, until he finally got ripped to shreds by the judges, and the fans finally realize they were screwing people who deserved better.
Johns should not have gone home at this point. He was putting out stellar peformances each week. I disagreed with the judges this week too. His performance was great. This brings up another problem. I wish the judges would sometimes give their comments a little more thought, as it relates to the overall big picture. This week they ripped Johns beyond what they should have. His performance may not have met their tastes, but it was a professional level performance. By ripping him like they did, they essentially convinced the fans that it was time for him to go. He had never even been in the bottom three, and then he was gone. Something rotten about that if you ask me.
Ryan is a dingo. I have begun to give him a little more respect though. I know folks think his job is an easy one, but I don’t think it’s as easy as it looks. You’ve got to keep those comments coming, even if you are reading them. And sometimes he gets handed some terrible dialogue. He got ripped for the comments about Johns, but guess what, he was just reading them. He probably had no idea what was coming until he got about 2/3rds the way through that line. Then it was too late. Some writter should have gotten his arse handed to thim.
Johns was good at listening. I appreciated that. He showed maturity and I respected that. We knew he didn’t always agree, but when he expressed his opinions he did so in a non-confrontational manner that spoke well of him. I think he’s going to be scooped up by someone and turn pro in a big way.
Yeah, Danny Noriega was his name. He thought he was pretty cute until his big mouth betrayed him, he didn’t listen to the criticism and went home on principle LOL.
There have been nights when I have thought Simon was brutal. In the last few weeks I have felt that Randy was far too negative for the whole evening, then to save face he would give someone not that deserving a glowing review. I do think Simon is more spot on than the other two. Randy is just too laid back. Paula has a psychological need to stroke every candidate, and that repulses me no end. Simon is opinionated and sometimes off the mark and borderline cruel. I think that is a mistake, but the contestants continue to value his opinion overy anyone elses. I do think he confuses them at times. Some of them wind up wondering what in the heck am I supposed to do with this? He shouldn’t leave them second guessing. Even if he needs to take a bit longer, he should give a few sentences to make sure they get the benefit of his insight.
I don’t have a problem with David Cook winning. I will state that at this time, he is the most accomplised contestant IMO. I still think everyone has talent except you know who. Anyone including you know who might surprise us over the next five or six weeks. My only hope is that every contestant will display the upmost of their talent. Then I will be content with the outcome.
It would be terrible for someone to go home thinking they hadn’t found a way to raise their level of performace to be the best that it coudl be. It’s now or never kids.
Did you see Mariah on the AIGB progam? That’s woman’s range goes sixteen octives over middle C. Well maybe just 14. ;-)
Amazing...
Now.........Back to American Idol!!!
Should have a show: Idol Gives Back to Our Troops!! But mention is made through song, so that in itself is a really good thing~
See ya!
In this age of technology, anyone can put out a CD. I could; but don't think you would buy it!
I know of two personal home recording studios nearby. People you will never hear of, locally admired talent. These Idol contestants -Carly (reported previous $2 mil deal) & Kristy- follow their dreams, auditioning like anyone else. I believe Kristy sold her horse to come audition, as said first thing she would do upon return was buy it back?.
It is claimed many of the talent we see, have recorded a CD, or have gone onto Internet music sites where unknowns can offer up music free for the download to get noticed.
David Cook, supposedly, has a CD out on his own label. Also did you know:
"Adam Cook, 36, is undergoing chemotherapy for his second diagnosis of brain cancer, which has spread to his spine. A plan to travel to California to see his brother perform was grounded earlier in the week when Adams doctors told him he could not fly commercially in his condition."
David A. :"According to TMZ, David doesn't doubt his ability as much as he claims. Those internet wizzes dug up an old Jenny Jones episode featuring a younger Archuleta with some amazing vocals. The gossip gansters also claim that David once had a recording contract."
Melinda Doolittle was, if you remember, a successful back up singer,

Yes I did. Wow, on her range! It’s a wonder that high note didn’t send my beagle running to the closest sound proof room or break all the glasses in the cabinets! She is very talented but just not my type of music, although there might be a few songs I like by Mariah.
“Should have a show: Idol Gives Back to Our Troops!! But mention is made through song, so that in itself is a really good thing~”
Now that is a terrific idea! We should all write to them. That is definitely a worthy cause and I think America would agree. Giving back to Heroes- doesn’t get any better than that!
