Obama's brilliant bad speech (The LA Times!)

In some ways, Barack Obama's speech on race last week was as brilliant as it was nuanced. But for all its rhetorical beauty, it was also an enormous step backward and, in the end, a rather self-serving call for more discussion about racial grievance in a country that has already done way too much talking.
Until last week, so much of Obama's appeal lay in the fact that he was not asking us to talk about the racial divide. Instead, he offered himself as a living and breathing symbol of racial reconciliation; his very origins pointed to the goal of unity and, from his own account, created in him a desire to bring together opposing sides.
Throughout the campaign, Hillary Rodham Clinton's surrogates repeatedly tried to bait Obama into talking about race; they worked to pigeonhole him (and marginalize him) as the "black candidate." But in the end, it was Obama's own alliances that tripped him up and obliged him to directly address a subject (one that he now says we "cannot afford to ignore") that he had so deftly avoided -- or as the Obamaphiles had it, transcended. For all the kudos the Illinois senator has received for his candor, the very act of delivering Tuesday's address was a defeat. Obama was a much more powerful force for racial progress when he so effortlessly symbolized it, rather than when he called on us to address "old wounds."

i'm really sick of all the Obama lovers talking about how we need to have a "conversation about race". No we don't. We're supposed to be picking a president, I don't need a racial controversey just to benefit one liberal candidate.
Further, maybe some kids under 20 actually believe that we "never had this conversation", but that is absolute BS. We lived through riots, voting rights acts, affirmative action, school busing, desegregation, MLK, and a plethora of federal programs and anti-discrimination laws. I've been watching this racial conversation on TV since at least the early 1960's.

20% of 10% (of the voting block)... Hmmm. That’s 10% more than current levels... That means... 1%. An extra 1% in the polls... Not really worth pursuing too hard.

Forget the casual moral equivalence he makes between a pastor's provocative public rants and his grandmother's private utterances; what's more important is that grandmothers are inherited while pastors are chosen.Obama's in trouble if even the LA Times recognizes that he threw his "typical white person" grandma under the bus.

More “dialogue” on race relations? What they really want is more monologue.

It just kills me that Obama had successfully managed to transcend race in his campaign, and now it comes out that he was a lackey of a white-hating church.
So now we are back in the gutter. So be it. Whitey didn't start it. Obama didn't finish it. McCain just might win it.

Seen it. It does a good job capturing the mania.
I particularly like the shots of Obama taking people to the leading edge...and then they all jump off the cliff together.
Also like the one pic of Obama at a rally with the big sign that says “Investigate 911” right behind him there. That one would make as good a pic as his standoing there basically ignoring the national anthem.
Finally, all of the pics showing the cocain...which he admits to having used.

The whole idea that a speech could get Osamabama out of this mess is ridiculous. Can you imagine the NYT suddenly supporting David Duke for President on the basis of one speech?

Next time somebody on the left calls for a dialog on race, remind them of what happened to Geraldine Ferraro. Her part of the dialog got her death threats, kicked off the Clinton campaign, and people calling her law firm demanding she be fired.

Barry did us all a favor by exposing himself as a hate whitey racist. He did to himself what the media couldn't do without there being cries of racism. We should all congratulate Barry for finally coming out of the racist closet and we should encourage him to come out of the other closets he's hiding in.

I'm curious. Where is that sign? Are there more? Have they been vandalized?
I think I see a sign in the background which says I-85 east to Charlotte.
