1. DC lost. Lower court ruling will be upheld. 2. The decision will be broad enough to encompass Federal Laws.

Because of the way the Court framed the Question, if 1) occurs, 2) is a done deal, even if the ruling on the Question is just one word. "Yes".

The Question is:

Whether the following provisions—D.C. Code §§ 7-2502.02(a)(4), 22-4504(a), and 7-2507.02—violate the Second Amendment rights of individuals who are not affiliated with any state-regulated militia, but who wish to keep handguns and other firearms for private use in their homes?

If the answer is "yes", then it follows that individuals *have* second amendment rights. That in turn opens up all or almost all federal gun control laws to challenge.

There are reasonable restrictions on speech and religion. The classic "fire in a crowded theater" example

That, and the liable laws, allow for punishment for misuse of the right. They do not allow prior restraint on speech. I can live with "no prior restraint" for misuse of arms. In fact that is what " shall not be infringed" means.

I think the permit system is a reasonable way to make sure the nut jobs don't end up with guns.

Who gets to define "nut job". With DemonRats or RINOs in control, just wanting to own a firearm will get you labeled a "nut job".

And just WHAT is wrong with goat sacrifices?

As long as it's your goat. Nothing from a legal standpoint. Oh, as long as you don't try to wash the diseased carcass down the storm sewer or something.

Here's a photo of basil, aka Mari Thompson, the President of Second Amendment Sisters presenting Dick Heller with a SAS t-shirt. We also honored him with a Lifetime membership in SAS.

Thanks for the correction. My first instinct was to include anything that could be ‘aimed’. Arms, I suppose, ought to include anything that can be used to stop an advancing threat/adversary. I’m good with that.

That was Kennedy's response to a a qestion to Dellinger. I almost fell out of my chair.

This decision will have an unbelieveable effect on contesting the other laws in the country.

Is this the same Heller as in D.C. vs Heller?

Yes, it is THE Dick Heller in the case. He contacted SAS about a week before our rally on the steps of the Supreme Court and offered his help and support. He's an absolutely delightful gentleman...and a true hero to gun owners!

Aaron Zelman Talks to the NRA Board May 23, 1994 - Minneapolis, MN

This post (#530) may seem unthinkable by today's standards but hardly so, if I may:

An unarmed populace in a free society is easily infiltrated. An oil-backed terror organization with funds necessary to inflict major harm will face little opposition.

The next 'holocaust' may not be government induced, but rather ideologically induced- with tacit approval from government via collusion with a disarmament policy.

The difference between 911 and 912 could have been as simple as that between a boxcutter and a .38 snubby in a librarian's purse. "Armed citizens thwart hijack attempt, large buildings spared".

Thank you so much! And thanks to 'basil' too. As a Left-coaster who once lived just outside D.C. (Alexandria, VA), your efforts are so appreciated. I'm so with you in spirit, the very best to you all as you are in my thoughts.

The storm sewers near my house have pictures of trout engraved on them; so I am careful to dump nothing but fish guts down them.

I'm sure the alligators (if any) and rats (almost surely) in the sewers appreciate your donations.

Then, either the partying will start, or there will be a run on guns like you have never seen. Make that guns and shovels.

At that point it would be too late for shovels, unless you've got some stuff already buried that you need to dig up, and gun shops would be shut down for the "emergency" anyway.

Buy now, especially ammunition. Avoid the rush.

She seemed to convey the idea that Miller supported use of common military arms whereas Scalia and Roberts were pushing protection of common-use civilian arms.

And no one mentioned that machine guns would be common civilian arms, assault rifles and sub guns anyway, if they weren't illegal and or taxed and regulated almost to death before they became outright illegal (to buy new ones that is).

but a liberal coworker said the opposite (basically she expects all guns to be banned by next year)

Tell Dorothy to close her eyes, click her heels three times and repeat...

There’s no place like home, There’s no place like home, There’s no place like home, ...

The more and more I hear about this case, the more I fear she might have a point.

The ruling could actually expand gun laws, in that they may rule that it is a “right” but subject to “reasonable regulation”.

SO I will not count this as a victory yet.
