Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major address Tuesday on race, politics and unifying the country after being hounded by questions about his relationship to a pastor whose sermons have been laced with anti-American invective.
In a speech whose religious significance could compare to one given in December by former GOP presidential hopeful and Mormon Mitt Romney, Obama may be forced to explain the philosophy of the 8,000-strong Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the Democratic presidential candidate has been a congregant for 20 years.
In announcing the morning address, to be delivered in Philadelphia, Obama would not say specifically what he will discuss, but suggested he wants to cool down the atmosphere after incendiary remarks by his pastor, retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., blanketed the airwaves over the past week.

Of course you are right. Pass the barf bags.
Good morning to you, Good morning to you!
The keyboard’s in the mail....
Thanks, I was wondering what time it was scheduled.
I’m not underestimating his speech abilities and ‘slickness’ quotient. He’s got Bill beat when it comes to acting honest & sincere.
Hillary cannot win the general election without the black vote, and if Hillary is the rat nominee, she will NOT get the black vote, because she will have stolen the nomination from the big ‘O’.
BTTT- lots of insight there.
That’s only because he’s still new and people haven’t “peeled the Obama onion”. Stay tuned.
You ought to hear the story of the Exodus from the perspective of that perverse theology.
I once heard a pastor say that Pharoah allowed the Jews to leave with all of their possessions, but when slaves got kicked off the plantations, they couldn't take anything with them. He equated the two and used that logic to argue for reparations.
I think that the only honorable thing he can do is admit to 1) being influenced by Wright but he’s better now; 2) not paying close enough attention; 3) apologizing to us whities; 4) severing ties with that church - wife and children too; 5) hit the lights and go into his hope and change speech. He won’t do that but that’s what he should do. I want an apology. I look at the black people I encounter now and feel like the racial divide has widened and is too wide to cross in my generation. It makes me very sad.
Major damage control. I suspect it will be to little to late. He should have hit the ground divesting himself of this idiot. Instead he tried to finesse this past the fawning MSM. If he had come out claiming he had had an epiphany and was suddenly struck with the evil of the message it would have been defused. Of course that would have been a lie just like what he said after it came out. I believe he not only was present when this tripe was being spoken but was nodding his head in approval, if not standing and applauding.
“Thats only because hes still new and people havent peeled the Obama onion. “
Maybe, but I’m not sure they’re going to be peeling much of the onion today either.
Vote for me! Just because I'm a corrupt, socialist racist is no reason I shouldn't be President. Quick somebody hand me a hankie!!
People need to probe the connection between Liberation Theology in general and Marxism, and it’s relationship to sometimes violent movements in Latin America.
But no one in the media will.
Juan Williams, who otherwise was making sense on this Obama pastor issue, was talking about how wonderful it all was.
His reaction to this mess has been telling, indeed. He’s in a spot he created- but a tough spot nevertheless. If he truly distances himself from Jeremiah Wright and Trinity Church, many blacks will be furious- if he doesn’t- many non-blacks will be furious.
Pure poetry :-)
Thanks for the chuckle
BO’s “I have a damn!” speech.
1) My judgement wasn't very good
2) I'm not a good judge of other people's character
3) I often don't pay attention to what people say to me
4) I am easily misled
These are not good defenses for a misstep in a presidential campaign. But what else does he have??
I think the problem for Obama is that he has been preaching one message inside the African American community, and a different one to the broader American public.
As another FReeper commented once, it’s very much like Arafat saying one thing to his followers in Arabic and another thing entirely to the world media in English.
