Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major address Tuesday on race, politics and unifying the country after being hounded by questions about his relationship to a pastor whose sermons have been laced with anti-American invective.
In a speech whose religious significance could compare to one given in December by former GOP presidential hopeful and Mormon Mitt Romney, Obama may be forced to explain the philosophy of the 8,000-strong Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the Democratic presidential candidate has been a congregant for 20 years.
In announcing the morning address, to be delivered in Philadelphia, Obama would not say specifically what he will discuss, but suggested he wants to cool down the atmosphere after incendiary remarks by his pastor, retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., blanketed the airwaves over the past week.

Actually one has to parse to say Obama was not lying last week. He clearly left the impression that not only was he unfamiliar with Wright’s racist rhetoric, but that if he had heard such things he would have done something about it. He did neither and lied about both when he thought (hoped) the issue would go away sooner. If you want to call it deceptive, fine. I call it lying. PS - I did love your “Parse-O-Meter” line!

I am astounded that I just got here, read a hundred posts and all I read was distortion of what he is saying.
He will win the nom and he will not be easy to beat.
He has buried Hillary with this speech.
I’ve not watched/listened to the speech only have read a sampling of the post herein. The post seem to run the spectrum from good to bad. So I have no real feel for the actual outcome.
But since you feel this was a winner and he’s got the nomination locked up is it your contention that the ‘super delegates’ will abandon Hillary in favor of Obama? I would think they may just come to Hillary’s side if this speech isn’t as you feel it to be.

ANyone who grew up in the south understands exactly what his posture is. I grew up with parents who were openly segregationists, who said the most awful things about blacks. who condoned all the racism in the south to the day they died.
But they were good parents and were good to me, supported me, fed me, educated me and were moral in all other ways.
This is what he is describing. I understand it perfectly. I would no more have thrown them under the bus but I disagreed profoundly with them.
THis is what Obama is saying,,he loves and respecrts Wright who is more than the youtubes to him.
Couldn’t believe the way he threw his white grandmother, the woman who really raised him as a child, under the bus.

I was amazed to hear so much less of his sweet nothingisms, and so much more of what he actually believes ... that the achievement gap is the legacy of slavery ... that segregated schools are inferior ... that single mother homes are the result of black men's despair at being unable to find jobs to support the mothers and the child(ren).
All the fault of "society." But if segregated schools are inferior, why do South Dakota, Iowa, Maine, etc. have the highest test scores? Why do black students in places like Shaker Heights and White Plains still underperform their white peers?
This man is dangerous. He is stuck on ideas that have been proven false time and time again.
If such a tautology is to be plausibly denied, I'd say the person in question would've had to leave within six months of first attending. A bit longer--maybe a year--would be plausible if one's parents were long-time members. If one's spouse were the racist, hate-monger, it might be plausibly denied if one attended for up to a year and a half, but by the end of 18 months, baby, no one can say you haven't bought into the whole megillah!

Now that's funny.
Someone on another thread a few days ago mused that Obama is in way over his head now. His candidacy at first was a chance for the Dems to show their tolerance and inclusivity. But, it's gotten out of hand. Obama soared far further than planned, raised more money than imagined, and has become a thread to Democrat ideals every where (teehee).
