“Because Alaska, a state not known for its racial diversity, is on the list, ...”

Alaska has a huge native American population.

My husband is a Marine, but he was outnumbered while standing on a Bourbon St. corner. He was pulled into a car, taken for a joy-ride, mugged and (fortunately) tossed out the door.

My few times spent in New Orleans are probably the most frightened I’ve ever felt in any American city.

“So how did New Mexico make it?”

1. Indian reservations

2. It’s a pathetically poor state, with the only industry being oil/gas and the Democratic administration is doing its best to shut that down in the state.

(I say this as a bothersome Texan.)

Texas has a large minority (almost majority) population in her Hispanics. Texas isn’t on the list, so, wonder what that means?

It’s a per capita test.

California, being the most populist state, would not make the rankings. This is also why a state like South Carolina makes the list, when it really only has one or two bad areas.

A more meaningful list is the city list.

Texas largest cities, Houston and Dallas, have *considerably* more crime per capita than California's larges cities, LA and SF.

So much for "Don't mess with Texas"...Which by the way was a slogan for a litter campaign.

I’m sure it does.

When I lived in South Florida, we had a saying too...”South Florida — Where the low-lifes come to lay low.”

Nevada has no people, except Las Vegas, which is a rough town.

As this is a per capita test, the lack of population skews the results.

(This is also true for New Mexico.)

I would also look at population densities of the southern border states.

Agreed without a doubt.

I believe that last year the Hispanic population outnumbered all other ethnicities in Texas.

The study seems quite suspect to me because:

1. It equates all the crimes it lists as having the same weight. Car theft is rated the same as murder.

2. It does not include the District of Columbia, which has a population greater than several states.

Both of these things tend to skew the results somewhat. I also question how they rate the results. I did not see this listed in their methodology.

I think the illegals may have had something to do with that.

“Texas largest cities, Houston and Dallas, have *considerably* more crime per capita than California’s larges cities, LA and SF.”

Houston is a rough town.

But note that you are looking at two non-comparable state governance set-ups -— the population Dallas, for example, consists of basically Oak Cliff and a couple of other slums. Actual working people live in Plano, University Park, Highland Park, etc. which are not part of Dallas, legally, although are part of the metroplex in fact.

Los Angeles, in contrast, has annexed everything around it, and won’t let the good neighborhoods succeed from the union.
