Obamas Gave $22,500 to Racist Church in 2006
Gateway Pundit | March 13, 2008

As noted earlier, Jeremiah Wright is no casual aquaintance of the Obamas.

Jeremiah Wright helps keep Obama's "priorities straight and his moral compass calibrated."

Sweetness and Light and The Chicago Tribune reported last year:

Obama says that rather than advising him on strategy, Wright helps keep his priorities straight and his moral compass calibrated.

“What I value most about Pastor Wright is not his day-to-day political advice,” Obama said. “He’s much more of a sounding board for me to make sure that I am speaking as truthfully about what I believe as possible and that I’m not losing myself in some of the hype and hoopla and stress that’s involved in national politics.” …

In his 1993 memoir “Dreams from My Father,” Obama recounts in vivid detail his first meeting with Wright in 1985. The pastor warned the community activist that getting involved with Trinity might turn off other black clergy because of the church’s radical reputation.

When Obama sought his own church community, he felt increasingly at home at Trinity...

Later he would base his 2004 keynote speech to the Democratic National Convention on a Wright sermon called “Audacity to Hope,” –also the inspiration for Obama’s second memoir, “The Audacity of Hope.”

Though Wright and Obama do not often talk one-on-one often, the senator does check with his pastor before making any bold political moves.

Last fall, Obama approached Wright to broach the possibility of running for president. Wright cautioned Obama not to let politics change him, but he also encouraged Obama, win or lose...

I don't think nearly enough attention has been given to "following the money" in the Obama/Rev. Wright situation. It is one thing to listen to this kind of hate speech, but quite another to financially support it.

I have no idea what the Gateway Pundit is; I simply googled "Obama Wright donation," and this popped up.

Scroll down a bit, and you'll see (in a format I couldn't copy to this page) a "Summary Sheet: 2006 Tax Return for Barack and Michelle Obama," listing a $22,500 donation to the church in question. And Rush made reference to this donation on his show, as FReeper "1066AD" pointed out on another thread.

Assuming this is legit, WHY isn't a bigger deal being made of this? Obviously the "mainstream media" will be reluctant to report on it, but why are Fox News, National Review, American Spectator, etc. not running with this? With due respect to the Gateway Pundit, can anyone provide a link to this story from a more widely-known source?

Remember that Obama has been mighty proud of the fact that he has released his tax returns, unlike Hillary. The 2007 return promises to be quite intersting. I’m guessing he’ll file for the automatic 6 month extension.

$22.5K for his “hate America club”? That amount sounds like the dues for a whites-only country club.

Well, maybe it’s a little on the low side. Not that I’d know, needless to say.

From post Hussein made on the huffPost yesterday:
“The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation,”

Lol, what a load of utter bovine excrement.
To suggest that Rev Adolph Wright {and yes his style of preaching is quite similar to Hitler's scream @ the crowd approach} only made two such hatefully statements in his 30 years of preaching is absurdly insane.

Hate-filled bigots like Pastor Wright are enabled by support from those who attend their sermons, applaud their deranged message, and give money to them. Prominent among these enablers is Barak Obama, who is not worthy of his office in the Senate, much less of the one he seeks in the White House.

On Obama’s moral compass, “N” doesn’t stand for “North.”

The release of all this info NOW benefits only one person—Hillary Rodham Clinton. I don’t think we should assist in spreading the word on this. Better for McCain if we wait until after Obama secures the nomination.

Obama has known who this guy was and what he represented for many years.

It is not credible to think that he could go there for 20 years, donate so much money there, be married by the guy, have him baptize his children, make him a religious counseler on his campaign, claim that he his his mentore fr Heaven's sake...and yet know so little about the guy.

These statements by Wright, this hateful rhetoric are this guy's MO. I believe Obama has shot his foot clean off over this.

If he did know (and he surely did) then he is a liar and complicit with the hate. If he did not know, then his judgement and powers of perception are so pathetically inadequate as to compromise and disqualify him in any case.

Frankly I’m not inclined to make much of the pastor’s rantings or of Obama’s membership in, or donations to this church. At least not until AFTER the Democratic Convention. Why is it that this is just starting to make headlines as Hillary’s getting desperate about her prospects for the nomination? Obama’s pastor is a far-left crank, to be sure, but I feel less slimy about letting that slide (at least for now), than I’d feel about jumping on board a Hillary-directed smear campaign. I say we wait until Obama has the nomination to start shredding him. I do NOT take marching orders from the Hillary campaign.

Remember Obama owes his seat in the Senate to Chicago Tribune harranguing the courts into releasing Jack Ryan’s divorce records. Meanwhile he gets elected without ever having to answer for his crazy church.

I have to disagree. I still think Obama gets the nomination, because of his nearly insurmounable delegate lead. And he'll be "damaged goods" in November.

But if, on the other hand, Hillary wrests the nomination from him (by winning big in Pennsylvania; winning "do-overs" in Florida and Michigan; and doing some industrial-strength arm-twisting on the superdelegates), the Obama supporters will stay home in November. This may become the "perfect storm" for the GOP; I only regret we don't have a nominee we can be more fired up about.

The truth is this Pastor’s ranting is pretty standard for a certain brand of theology that is widely preached in the inner city. If Obama were being honest he would say “Look my pastor’s rhetoric is a little over the top but he’s basically correct.” Of course then he could never get elected President.

I hear you, but this won’t make one iota difference to the people who will vote for him. He might lose, say, 3 votes.
