Yup, Qat, Khat, Kat are all names for the East African drug khat, placed on Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act after our troops were sent to Somalia, and some of the plant was imported. Cathula edulis, I think, is the name.
There's a whole DEA section devoted to catching qat smugglers, most of them Somali immigrants.
How do I know? Well, not because of my prostitution ring (We actually charge more than 5500/hr), I do crosswords and Scrabble, and find qat to be a nifty word. My girls will play Scrabble or Quiddler with you, for only $500/hr.

Qat is a prominent drug in Yemen where it is chewed. Procedure is as follows:
1. Select the best leaves from a bushel of qat, usually purchased from the qat farmer, and put in mouth
2. Bruise the leaves by chewing, but do not swallow the juice.
3. The resulting wad of qat should be kept inside the cheek so that the drug can enter the blood stream by osmosis through the inside membrane of the cheek.
4. Rub the handle of your jambia and adjust the belt it is attached to.
