What do you think? Suggestions, comments, complaints?
John’s working on a new thread posting form that will automatically check for duplicates. Also will automatically check the copyright/excerpt list, etc. Also, allows user editing of his own threads, embedded youtube and audio clips, etc. Uploading and attaching multiple photos, images, to a thread, etc. He’s got a lot of new features on the way.
Dup threads:
That is not a small task. Almost have to compare the text of the article since headlines change so often. Today’s enhancement to the search box upper right is nifty.
I believe he’s going to check the source URL. Guess he could check the title too. In either case, it may just be a warning so the poster can view the suspected prior thread and make the final decision.
Try it and see; it might help. Searchng the entire database of several gazillion bytes automatically every time a thread is started might not be feasible. :)
Where did the Search function that used to be on the main Forum page go?
Wow. Those are great features.
Also, allows user editing of his own threads,
Does this mean editing of user comments, too, or just to repair spelling and incomplete headlines, etc., in the article itself?
And am I shouting to you? I'm shouting to me. 8~)
That all sounds really awesome Jim. Looking forward to what is implemented.
Tiny clear box upper right
Undecided at this point.
This is not the same functionality as before, the capabilities of which I heartily miss. I hope this problem will be corrected soon.
When you go up to the right, put the posters name, and bring down the box that says “users”, it automatically goes to articles posted. Then you have to hit the “comments” tab. At work, the tabs “articles”, “comments”, etc weren’t showing but they are here at home so at work, I just put my curser where I thought the “comments” tab should be and it came up. Don’t know if it was the computer at work or how it was set up, will find out tomorrow.
Also, used to be if you searched for a poster that had been banned/suspended, it came up with the blue screen of death. Now, it just defaults to the general search screen.
I gotta say just between you and me, I sure am going to miss that "blue screen of death." LOLOL!
Is there any way we can persuade the Robinsons to bring it back?
I have a feeling that's not going to happen. We're just going to have to learn to change with the times.
I've gotten more than one snicker checking on people I thought deserved the ax and then seeing they were gone. Now you're never really sure if you typed it correctly or if they're really gone.
Please not a gray background, not enough contrast for my poor tired eyes.
With the new format, how can I search using keywords or posters? I can’t find the “search” button they used to have in the forum (the only search button I can find is the one in the homepage, which only allows searches of words in the titles of posts).
I apologize in advance if I’m failing to see something obvious.
IF your browse doesn't have the capability (and it may just be a matter of turning on JavaScript) then you can type: title:search phrase here to perform a title search, posts-by:user name here for a user search, or simply keyword-or-topic-or-forum for the keyword search.
Gee, that was easy enough, and right there for me to see too! Thank you very much, and sorry to bother you.
I think it’s easy to miss because it doesn’t say “Search” right away. I’ve been resisting the urge to change the label but will probably succumb sooner than later.
Bump
I’ve been reading this thread, and poking around with all of the cool new stuff.
Thank you all for everything you’ve done.
I love the new place!
Thanks especially for the new drop-down search feature, and for making the configure sidebar easy for the non-tech savvy.
I was reconfiguring my sidebar and ended up with the biggest mess!
But, thanks to John, even *I* was able to fix it.
Thank you, JimRob and Syncro, for all of the help you’ve given us.
I’m really looking forward to what comes next!
