The U.S. military are investigating a shocking video of a smiling Marine throwing a puppy off the top of a steep hillside in Iraq into a gully below.
The video gained widespread attention and condemnation after appearing on the web site YouTube, where it has been viewed over 8,000 times.
The footage shows two Marines, in combat gear and smiling, as one holds a white-and-black puppy by the scruff of its neck.

The small dog seems to be about eight weeks old and is motionless as it is held.
"Cute little puppy, huh?" says one Marine as he smiles broadly.
"Oh so cute, so cute, little puppy," says another in a child-like voice.
The Marine holding the puppy then turns and hurls the animal overhand into a desert-like gully below.
The puppy can be heard yelping in terror until it thuds to the ground at the bottom of the gully.
"That's mean," one Marine says after, in a sickening understatement.
"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," a spokesperson revealed.
Marine spokesman Major Chris Perrine believed the culprit is based in Hawaii.
"We do not tolerate this type of behaviour and will take appropriate action," he said.
The 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment of about 1,000 Hawaii Marines recently replaced a sister unit in Iraq, the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii said the vast majority of Marines "conduct their duties in an honourable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States."
"There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children," said Major Chris Perrine.
"Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."
Regardless of this story, throwing Live animals off cliffs reflects a disturbed sick sociopathic person. I say throw someone like that off a cliff.....they are dangerous to society.
Apples and oranges....don’t be such a whiny cry baby.
That's how psycopaths think. Most psycopaths start out by abusing and killing animals for pleasure.

Very good point....it's a sign that those people should not be ignored---big red flag.
“Thats a variation on the smear used against our Vietnam vets. They had it so rough, thats why they raped women and murdered babies.
This is not what our Marines are. Only a POS would say it is.”
I am not justifying it, I am basically saying that sometimes people snap and do things they would not.
This incident is nowhere near a Mie Lie but it shows anabberant behavior.
I don;t think it ads up, that backround does not look like the ME.
I have no doubt that you, me and everyone on this board are capable of holding multiple heart felt concerns simultaneously. However, some concerns are far more. for lack of a better term, important than others. I could have just as easily mentioned any war, hunger, famine, etc event.
For the record, I love dogs and have shared my home with one or more for almost my entire life. I have also had the displeasure of knowing stupid and cruel Marines while in the Corps. (they were very few and far between, but there non the less)
I see the blogsphere is ready to throw David Motari over the cliff, so to speak, just on the guess he looks kind of like the guy.
Check out the link in Post #266. I think that’s the dog being tossed. And I don’t think it’s Iraq and the uniform is very suspect.
It looks like the old tricolor DCU pattern. Someone up thread suggested that Marines never wore that uniform. I distinctly remember seeing them in the past...
Your top picture is Army.
Ah, the crazy vet syndrom.
Our troops are not snapping under the pressure.
You can probably spread that propaganda at DU, but it won’t fly here.
Caught that after.. I was only meaning to post second..
I would bet the house that the person that faked this video is a leftwinger.
Who else would be sick enough to even think about throwing a puppy off a cliff? I doubt an action like that would even cross your average Marine's mind, and most Marines I know would punch someone in the face for suggesting it.
That looks like the same uniform in the film. Those are desert coveralls. The kind Tankers and mechanics wear and whoever else can get their hands on them.
I don’t think that’s a Marine. Marine’s don’t wear patches on their sleeves other than rank insignia (stripes, cross rifle’s, etc.) That is probably an army soldier. Regardless, yes, Marines today wear new “digital”-style cammies.
Not the same markings, but the toy dog could have been switched in and tossed.
Thats mean. That was mean, Motari,” a second man, pictured with him in the beginning of the video, can be heard saying.
