The U.S. military are investigating a shocking video of a smiling Marine throwing a puppy off the top of a steep hillside in Iraq into a gully below.
The video gained widespread attention and condemnation after appearing on the web site YouTube, where it has been viewed over 8,000 times.
The footage shows two Marines, in combat gear and smiling, as one holds a white-and-black puppy by the scruff of its neck.

The small dog seems to be about eight weeks old and is motionless as it is held.
"Cute little puppy, huh?" says one Marine as he smiles broadly.
"Oh so cute, so cute, little puppy," says another in a child-like voice.
The Marine holding the puppy then turns and hurls the animal overhand into a desert-like gully below.
The puppy can be heard yelping in terror until it thuds to the ground at the bottom of the gully.
"That's mean," one Marine says after, in a sickening understatement.
"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," a spokesperson revealed.
Marine spokesman Major Chris Perrine believed the culprit is based in Hawaii.
"We do not tolerate this type of behaviour and will take appropriate action," he said.
The 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment of about 1,000 Hawaii Marines recently replaced a sister unit in Iraq, the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii said the vast majority of Marines "conduct their duties in an honourable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States."
"There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children," said Major Chris Perrine.
"Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."
MARINES dont wear dcu’s so it may not be MARINES, but MARINES do wear a similar colored flak vest those guys are wearing

Soldiers capture kidnapper, free hostage Multi-National Division Baghdad PAO
BAGHDAD Multi-National Division Soldiers captured a kidnapper and freed a hostage being held for ransom Oct. 9 after being tipped off by residents of Northern Baghdads Adhamiyah neighborhood.
Members of the 2nd BCT, 82nd Airborne Division, conducted the operation which freed Majhid Hamid Majeed, a 33-year-old shop owner and father of five, from the confines of the tiny, squalid room where he was being held hostage.
Majeed had been abducted the previous day by kidnappers who beat him and threatened to kill him unless his family paid a $10,000 ransom. As word about the kidnapping spread through the community, a Concerned Citizen called a local tip line with information about the identities of the kidnappers.
A platoon from Troop C, 3rd Battalion, 7th Cavalry was on patrol when the tip came in. The patrol was immediately redirected to the residence the kidnappers were supposedly using as their base. When the Soldiers burst through the door, the kidnapper who was guarding Majeed literally jumped out of his shoes and made a break for the roof, said Hot Springs, Ark., native Staff Sgt. Jeremy Hand. The Soldiers caught him before he could make it out of the house.
A search of the house quickly located Majeed, who was lying on a cot in a small room. Until the moment the Soldiers came into the room, Majeed was sure he was going to be killed, he said. When the Soldiers interpreter explained to Majeed that he was being rescued, the shop owner hugged and kissed him.
Thank you America! he exclaimed.
When their search was complete, the Soldiers brought Majeed, the detainee and evidence taken from the house back to their base at Coalition Outpost Apache. Later that evening the Soldiers brought Majeeds brother and a cousin to see him, and the three of them shared a long hug together when they were reunited.
For Orlando, Fla., native Spc. Thomas Anderson, a medic who had taken part in the operation, seeing Majeed reunited with his family was a gratifying sight.
This guy has got five kids, and he gets to go home to them tonight because of us. That makes you feel pretty good, Anderson said.
“I gotta say that thought entered my mind too. First thing that needs to be done is to ID this person to confirm if he really is a Marine and if he really is in Iraq.”
This guy is under siege, he and his family are removing all facebook postings etc.
Regardless how the investigation turns out, what a hornets nest he has stirred up for himself.

Hawaii Marine investigated over Iraq puppy-abuse video
By Gina Mangieri
A Hawaii-based Marine is at the center of a military investigation over a video posted on the internet that appears to show him abusing an animal.
The video of apparent cruelty to a puppy has caused widespread outrage among many who have seen it, including the Marines. KHON2 will not show this video in its entirety, but we caution viewers the content may be disturbing.
On the video a Marine appears to pick up and then throw a stray puppy.
“That was mean. That was mean, ____(FR will not allow name),” one Marine says to the other Marine after throwing the animal.
The person is identified on the video and in subsequent internet postings as a lance corporal stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.’
‘The Marine Corps has launched an investigation to determine whether the man on the video is their Marine who returned last October from a 7-month tour of duty in Iraq.’
‘The Marines are examining whether the video is authentic or if it might not be what it appears. Regardless of whether it is real or a hoax, the Marines say the posting is unacceptable.’
They idea that they have ‘rights’ is crazy. They have protections that we give them. Lecture someone else.
Go outside. Enjoy yourself and thank god we have people in the military willing to protect you.
“Its just a dog.”
I was wondering how long it would take for a stupid comment like this to appear.
“They idea that they have rights is crazy”
A snake has every right as a dog or a komodo dragon to exist. Nature decides when a species should no longer exist.
When man interferes, the eco system gets screwed up.
Bats help pollinate other plants for instance. Every creature has its purpose on earth, this is science. Pure biology 101.
“Enjoy yourself and thank god we have people in the military willing to protect you.”
Absolutely,
Every day I have prayed for our troops in Iraq & Afghanistan and continue do do so.
A leftist web site claims a particular name is mentioned. I've listened to the video several times and did NOT hear the person's name mentioned. Are there two version of this video?
Can you give us a link to the video that mentions a name?
thanks for the links, but they do not offer any perspective. The brutality of female circumcision is not in dispute.
Throwing a puppy off of a cliff is an equally brutal act.

Excited about receiving a treat, Dean, a Labrador retriever mix who is deployed with troops in 64th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multinational Division Baghdad, sticks his tongue out in anticipation Feb. 16, 2008, at Camp Taji, Iraq. Dean is on a mission as the battalion chaplains therapy dog to help boost the morale of soldiers during their day-to-day activities.
And if you did you too should suffer the severest consequences.
Just a dog?
Dogs are exquisite creatures who give all that unconditional love and loyalty. They just ask for love and care in return.
Just a dog? Wrong, O heartless one. My dog is a member of my family, is like my child, and ANYONE who even thought of harming him may, (in the words of the Allman Brothers), wind up on the wrong end of a gun.
Just a dog! Sheesh!!!
given the number of times the left has faked pictues and videos, we have good grounds to not believe this.
Remember when the Drive By Media had a GI Joe DOLL as an american soldier held hostage?
How many fake soldiers have been at protest rallys?
We have every reason to not believe this.
Of course it does not matter because the propaganda damage is already done.
The dog looks real too. Puppies look like that when you pick them up by the neck. It looks heavy and not like a stuffed toy :(
These idiots will probably get alot of crap for this.
‘My dog is a member of my family, is like my child’
I’m sorry you feel that way. I’m sorry your child is on the same level as a dog. But that is your choice. America is a amazing country.
And as any good FBI profiler will tell you, most serial killers started out torturing and killing dogs.
