Hume to Conservatives: Get Off McCain's Back
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 03/02/2008 7:39:36 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Brit Hume has some blunt advice for conservative Republicans: lay off McCain if you don't want a Dem president.

At the very end of today's Fox News Sunday panel segment, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol was first to make a point along similar lines.

BILL KRISTOL: I'm more conservative than John McCain but I think it would be a mistake for him to just make himself into an orthodox conservative in this election. The reason he is a stronger candidate than a lot of other Republicans would be is that he is a little bit heterodox. He's got his own views, he shouldn't back off on that, I think, actually.

Hume drove the point home in spades.

BRIT HUME: And if the conservatives don't want a President Obama or a President Clinton, they ought to get off McCain's back and let him campaign as whatever he wants to, and campaign from the center.

I provided a list of various ways in which McCain is more conservative than Obama and simply asked that you provide one in which Obama was more conservative.

Not only did you fail to mention a single vote, policy or position (or anything else for that matter) that could support your argument, you distorted my post by claiming “This argument that we have to accept McCain as is is also laughable”.

I made no argument that we have to accept McCain. I simply asked you to provide one fact that might support your argument.

Your response shows that you have no sustainable argument, only the same old complaints against McCain that you repeat over and over again. Perhaps you don’t relize how lame that appears.

Let’s face it. The conservatives are to the Republican Party as the blacks are to the Rats. And they are treated accordingly. Crapped on by the libs (like those McCain lovers here who are pretending to be conservatives).

Saying one is conservative doesn’t make one so. Actions determine such things. And voting for McCain in the primary makes one a RINO in fact despite all protests to the contrary.

So the choice, once again, is psychotic collectivist looter Rat vs slightly less collectivist looter Pube.

Don’t expect us all to stay on the plantation Massa. Expect us to keep our powder dry.

We would get at least two more conservative, pro-life justices on the court if McCain is elected. I know it ain’t much, but, IMO, it’s better than the fiasco Hillary or Obama would create. Imagine the type of commies they would want on the bench. McCain isn’t conservative, but he is pro-life.

Ask cripplecreek which one of them far left libruls is fighting the Democrat party on issues? They all vote for their Democrat nominee even though those nominees are not 100 percent librul... I think they learned the lesson that pure ideologue Conservatives have failed to learn.....

There is a middle in the country and that is where most of the country wants to be and the only way you are going to have an influence on the plurality of Americans is by remaining in power.

I never knew that Conservatism meant Deporting Illegal aliens and putting a thousand foot high fence on the southern border.

However, I did know that it meant

1. Strong Support of national Defense. (The Military)
2. Strong Support of Family Values. (Life/marriage)
3. Strong Support of the Republic (constitutionalists)
4. Personal Responsibility no Nanny States.
5. Keeping Taxes low no excess gubmint spending.

Capice....

Thanks for that little lesson in definitions. Now I feel enlightened. McCain is a loser for the Republican Party, and he would be even if he could win, which he can’t.

What Conservative, Republican or American would sit on their hands and let Obama become President of the United States...? I know all about conservative principles and allowing an Obama win goes against everyone of them.

“That’s no boogeyman”

The “imagined” boogeyman is whomever Hillary or Obama “might” nominate.

Of course, McCain would only nominate true conservative Justices. sarc\

He would nominate pro-life justices. Isn’t that worth anything to you?

Why do you think McCain would lose? I don’t think either Hillary or Obama can beat him. It may look that way now, but that’s because it’s still so early in the year. Wait until Hillary or Obama has to debate McCain. He will clean either of their clocks.

I think those items are enough, not to mention that where has he been the last 25 years in regards to enabling this government to become a massive tax sucking, debt racking behemoth that is pretty much impotent to the needs of those who support it?

You might as well give up, I WILL NOT support McCain for any reason.....Deal with it and go bother some other poor FReeper.

“He would nominate pro-life justices”

1. You have absolutely NO proof of that.

2. There is A LOT of proof he can and will do many things to destroy this country.

Now, how would you decide?

BRIT HUME: And if the conservatives don't want a President Obama or a President Clinton,
You left out the beginning of Brit Hume's statement.

Well, I don't want a liberal President. If we (on the right) don't try to reel in McCain on his idiotic policies, who will? The Left?

Elections are about earning the vote, not about silencing all discussion.

You’re wasting your time here my FRiend, they will still try to force feed you their koolaid for what ever guilt or fear based reason. No matter how well you articulate your point.

I simply refuse to respond from here on out. They know how I feel and that’s how it is. If they don’t like it, that’s just awful tough!

Read my previous post on this subject. I know McCain has promised to appoint conservative judges, and in a hypothetical world where McCain could win, he might even fulfill that promise, at least to the point of handing them over to the Democrats to destroy. If for one minute I believed McCain would get two pro-life, pro-gun justices on the Supreme Court, I would campaign for him, but even under the best scenario, it would never happen. It’s a scam to get the very conservatives McCain hates to vote for him. Unlike you, I can understand your position, but I don’t buy into McCain’s lies.

You are totally missing the point.

The point is, McCain probably will win the election, IF he’s nominated. There are too many Americans that are not ready for Hillary or Obama, that’s a plain and simple fact.

The point is, WE DON”T WANT HIM!!!!!

We want a Conservative candidate to vote for. Someone who shares our values. If we all stand firm and let the GOP know in no uncertain terms that we will NOT VOTE for McCain, they WILL have to do something.

I think you have something there. If McCain is elected we could get so much more done, all the Democrats would support him as well as the not-so-conservative Republicans. Hey, I think we could probably even change the Constitution and get rid of some of those bothersome Inalienable Rights.

You just illustrated many FReeper’s point. McCain has “Earned” not getting our vote. And if you vote for him you ARE asking for a “Liberal” President.

But in reality, he has about as much chance of winning as I do of winning the lottery. (I’ve never bought a ticket in my life.)

Your pitiful few items are enough to define a 25 year career?

Give me a break.

You might as well give up, I WILL NOT support McCain for any reason.....Deal with it and go bother some other poor FReeper.

Hey Psycho, I have no intention of convincing you to vote for McCain, your mind is closed and I understand that. I'm just giving you a piece of my mind like you don't seem to mind doing to me as well as putting it out on topics.

As far as my “handle” that was a name given to me by my Brothers in Arms, during my service under the 101st Airborne Div. (3rd Bat., 187th inf. Div.)

Mr Psycho, I don't think I need your permission when you put it out in a public forum.

But Psycho just be assured that I will keep your advice in mind.

I’m sorry...that “noble” attitude willl destroy our country...and what the hell makes anyone think the conservatives will mount a comeback in 4 years...Obama will be offering so many teats to the masses they will worship him. Listen, McCain is not ideal...but we will rue this day. I am not only going to hold my nose and vote-I’m going to swing on that lever like I was on the trapese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot sit at home and allow Obama to win...Jeez people the alternatives are too horrific...I know, I know-nail me. But flash forward a year or two from now and there will be nashing of teeth and major hair pulling!!!Obama is THE worst possible choice-dear God read about his ideas and record-how could you allow that to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
