Democratic Base Fissures
Although attention has been focused on McCain's problems with the GOP base, there are indications that some Democrats might defect if Obama is the party's nominee. Overall, 20% of white Democratic voters say they would vote for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee. That is twice the percentage of white Democrats who say they would support McCain in a Clinton-McCain matchup. Older Democrats (ages 65 and older), lower-income and less educated Democrats also would support McCain at higher levels if Obama rather than Clinton is the party's nominee.

I’m confused by the poll...are they injecting that a white person won’t vote for a black person by a %? 20% of white voters won’t vote for a black candidate no matter what? or are they saying that 80% will vote against the white half, thus votin for the black half?
I dunno,I aint voting for him cuz he’s a D socialist, couldn’t care less what skin tone he his.
Things are changing fast in this race. Obama has peaked early and I really think Hillary will be the nominee.
That 90% was going to vote for the dem anyway. No loss there.
Yes. Only 20% will admit to it. You know it’s much higher.
Expect that percentage to rise considerably as the Obama hero-worship fades and as scrutiny of both his ultra-liberal voting record and his past associations with anti-American anarchist/marxist types increases.
“All what the evil woman needs to do if she is the nominee is to win Ohio and she is going to be President.”
Bite your tongue!
Being 12% of the US population and assuming that they turn out at a rate of 50% in a general election, I don't think black voters are nearly as influential as the MSM would have us believe.
A vote for either Hillary or Obama would be a slap in the face of their memory.
I will not hesitate to vote for McCain.
>>Blacks probably make up nearly 50% of the Democratic vote.
Let’s run some rough numbers.
Blacks are around 13% of the U.S. population. They vote overwhelmingly Democrat. Let’s say 95%.
Democrats are about 33% of the population (Republicans are about 29% and Independents are the balance).
If you do the math at 95%, that would make blacks 37% of the Dem primary electorate. This is probably not an unreasonable number for many states, and may even be low for states with large black populations and open primaries.
Even if you assume only 50% of blacks bothered to register Dem, this would make them 20% of the Dem primary electorate.
It’s not 50%, but it’s certainly a significant number.
You and I know Obama is to the left of Stalin, but, like all dem candidates, he'll run to the center after he locks the nomination. Just today he was calling himself a fiscal conservative -- after already proposing about $1 trillion of new federal program.
Indeed. Now if you can only convince Rush of this truth. (He's spending a great deal of time urging Texas Republicans to vote for Hillary next Tues.).
So what percentage of black democrats will do the same?
No, here. Have you read some of these threads? I think I was under estimating by some of the posts I see here. Heck, Gus Hall, dead and red, would get some votes from the anti-McCain crowd.
That would give the Republicans the White House!
H&C discussed it tonight and said they were going to do a story on it tomorrow too.
They won’t really be voting for McCain. They’ll be voting against Obama. In other words, any Republican candidate would do.
But the problem is that large numbers of Republicans WON’T vote for McCain. He is a lousy candidate.
Perhaps Obama should change his middle name to McGovern.
>> So let Obama be the democrat nominee :)
Sounds like a PLAN to me! “I love it when a plan comes together”.
It’s “me heart obama” on 3/4 in TX. FOAD, Hillary!
On 3/5, that’ll change to “me hate obama”. Hey, it’s just one little letter different...
His name is Barak Hussein Obama.
