Pew Poll: 20% of White Democrats Vote McCain If Obama Is The Nominee
Pew Poll ^ | February 28 2008 | Pew Poll

Democratic Base Fissures

Although attention has been focused on McCain's problems with the GOP base, there are indications that some Democrats might defect if Obama is the party's nominee. Overall, 20% of white Democratic voters say they would vote for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee. That is twice the percentage of white Democrats who say they would support McCain in a Clinton-McCain matchup. Older Democrats (ages 65 and older), lower-income and less educated Democrats also would support McCain at higher levels if Obama rather than Clinton is the party's nominee.

I saw it. Holmes said the now famous photo "appeared on Free Republic before Drudge." That's true.

I followed that thread pretty closely because there was a debate about the photo being altered (I don't think it was.)

You may be right, but some freepers here are saying that they are hearing similar stories.

Spot on. Way more than 20%. Who's going to respond to a poll question by stating, in effect, I won't vote for a black man?

This will be a landslide. Especially since McCain is not objectioonable to moderate democrats. I am just hoping it affects the congressional races and we can get some conservatives to keep McCain in check.

I would imagine 40% of Democrat white males vote for John McCain if Hillary is the nominee.

Democrats who vote for McCain have the dubious honor of having their votes counted twice. Sort of. Once against thus removing percentage points from a candidate and once for adding percentage points to the opponet.

10% of the electorate can move the polls 20% by changing their minds.

LOL! After all the GOP has done to champion and protect blacks, and has gotten no credit at all for, whouldn’t it be a hoot if racist Dems brought the white Republican candidate into the White House?

I hope so, but I do not want to see Hillary Clinton as the nominee, she is pure evil.

I have said this for a while now but we are not in near as bad of shape as the Dems. Their candidates are a black ex-Muslim with no experience whose middle name is Hussein and a white woman who half the voters can't stand and 40 percent would do whatever they can to vote against her.

Silky Pony is a moron but he might have been able to win the Presidency against McCain.

The first black President and the first woman President will be Republicans.

Oh I don’t either. Her and her husband need to be beaten now and Obama can be beaten later. I am actually considering voting for Obama on Tuesday.

The ironic truth.

” And that highlights the problem even if Blacks turnout in high numbers, they are only 13% of the total US population, Che Obama cannot win with those numbers.”

Nice to see you also citing this statistic. The MSM, and most voters don’t realize the actual numbers at stake, and what % they are.

The MSM does a very poor job of just showing a breakdown of the 100% population distribution, and what it has taken to overcome a high percentage vote by a smaller group.

Answer: not much, but you’ll never see that.

Margaret Mead said that the first women President would come out of the Republican Right. We all know better than to argue with her.

Gangrene of 14 and saying that he could never pick an extremist like Alito, though he would vote for him, are surely pro-life.

I can see white male Democrats in South Jersey and the proletarian burgs in North and Central Jersey voting for McCain over Obama. Nevertheless, Barry O will still narrowly win the state.
