I only caught some of the debate, but it was a disaster for Hillary Clinton. She skipped over questions that discomforted her--and boy, were there a lot of them. She was tedious, exhibiting an instinct for the capillaries that had to have had her supporters cringing in agony. Was it really worth it to whine about how she got the first question and then bring up the Saturday Night Live about the media showing favoritism towards Obama? To be sure, the skit was right and Hillary Clinton had reason to complain, but if she didn't actually believe that she would come out of that exchange looking badly, she has learned nothing whatsoever from her time on the campaign trail.
Equally horrible was the comment about how she just doesn't have time to release her taxes, or that Barack Obama was not sufficiently anti-anti-Semitic when he said that he "denounced" Louis Farrakhan as opposed to "rejecting" Farrakhan. Really, the whole thing was pathetic beyond measure. I know that it is common practice to believe that Hillary Clinton is The Smartest Woman In The World, or something along those lines. But her side of the debate looked clumsy, amateurish and dumb beyond measure.
Meanwhile, Obama was cool, confident, comfortable in his own skin and looked like a winner. I take no joy in writing that because I would much rather have John McCain face Hillary Clinton in the general election; it would be a far easier campaign for McCain to win, after all. But despite my earlier confidence that somehow, someway, Hillary Clinton would find a way to pull through, it is obvious that it's just not going to happen. One way or the other, Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee.
And Republicans will be in for an epic battle. Don't believe me? Then read this. No, Barack Obama is not Ronald Reagan. But he stands to profit from being underestimated by his foes just as Reagan did. Perhaps someone would want to see to it that such a luxury is denied Obama.
Assuming that Republicans want to win, of course.
I'm sure they have a plan, SCOTUS perhaps? Something big to repay them. Bill could be Ambassador to the World, on TV everyday? Something....
Clinton’s biggest mistake was that drivers licenses mess. We have Russert to thank for that as well.
There's no formal offer of help from Minister Farrakhan that would involve me rejecting it.
Obama can sway the DUmb Masses with his saccharin prose and calorie free espousals of “hope” and “change”, but when it comes to the General Electorate, they see exactly what he is. All his flowery speeches and bumper sticker catch-phrases amount to nothing. Zilch. Zip. Zero. Nada. No details on policy or programs. No details on anything substantive. He’s worse than JF’inK’s “I have a plan.” This guy doesn’t even tell you that much! The Republicans look for a leader they can get behind. The Democrats look for a leader they can fall in love with. In indeed they have found him, hook line and sinker......................
no matter who wins, we all lose.
Poor Missus Clinton, she was being taken on by Obama, Russert, and Williams.
I was going to make a snide comment that that was the most action she has seen in a long time, but I’ll resist.
this reminds me of the show “dead zone”
Its over before it started.
“He needs to surround himself with good people.”
Well, since he’ll surround himself with Democrats, that leaves the “good people” thing out.
I’ve long since learned that Democrats are NOT “good people” - most of them are horrible, immature, intolerant, guilt-ridden, pleasure-oriented spoiled brats who spend their entire lives pretending to be “good people”. Those who aren’t are the dumb-as-rocks variety who seek to emulate them.
I never thought I’d swallow my pride and vote for John McCain, but I will after listening to what these two leftist morons have in mind for “their fellow citizens”
The gloves are going to come off once the candidates for both parties are chosen. We are going to hear about Cindy McCain, Larry Sinclair, health records, financial records, and so on. If we thought it was ugly now just wait!
I’m praying we get a VP on the ticket who is young and CONSERVATIVE!
Yeah. In Hillary’s elitist mind, she simply knows that she has the answers for what ails the nation. She might convince herself that it is her patriotic duty to buck the DNC and try to somehow claim the nomination. For the “common good.”
I really hope she tries to pull some sort of political stunt.
Hillary has been given a pass by the MSM. Prior to her fall in the polls, she set up all the rules for her "audiences" with the media. If she decided when she wanted to go on the Sunday talk shows, she just snapped her fingers and got on immediately.
Imagine asking the Queen why she hasn't released her tax returns [nor has McCain] or confronting her with facts about her support of NAFTA [signed into law by her husband] or failure to carry through on campaign promises. The very fact that she is now being treated like a normal candidate is seen as bullying by some shows how twisted and distorted this all is.
Obama was asked hard questions about Farakhan's support, his statement to farmers on NAFTA, his liberal record, etc. They showed him in Somali garb but no picture of Hillary in a hajib.
I am tired of Hillary playing the victim card and even more tired of those who believe it. I guess it is another vast right wing conspiracy by the MSM, the same one that took her husband down over Monica.
“The Republicans look for a leader they can get behind. The Democrats look for a leader they can fall in love with. In indeed they have found him, hook line and sinker......................”
True... which leaves them one big step ahead of us.
She must have called Russert's boss after he tripped her up on drivers licenses in the other debate.
Yes, I agree with you, but unless something wonderful happens, Obama can very easily be the next president. Remember that idiot Carter? He got in when he shouldn’t have.
There is about a 99.9% chance that the Beast will lie, cheat, threaten, bribe, and extort to get to the WH.
