Iran: France will pay consequences

26 Feb 2008

Iran's ambassador to France says there will be consequences should Paris continue its illogical stance toward Tehran's nuclear program.

Ali Ahani cautioned French companies in Iran of economic consequences if fresh embargoes were imposed on the Islamic Republic.

In a Saturday released statement, France's foreign ministry said the recent UN nuclear watchdog report on Iran gave fresh impetus for new Security Council sanctions against Tehran.

The ministry called on the Islamic Republic 'to reestablish confidence that its nuclear plans are civilian' by giving into the international community's demands.

'Washington and allies' have imposed two rounds of UN Security Council sanctions on Iran, demanding the country to halt its uranium enrichment program, which Tehran maintains is aimed at providing fuel for under-construction nuclear power plants throughout the country.

Iran says it is entitled to the civilian use of nuclear technology since the country is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Let Iran make ANY move on France, and get the popcorn out. You can bet on it.

You lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. Chirac did more damage to France than anyone in the last 100 years.

Part of me agrees with you. Part of me wants to let France fight their own battles. They didn’t stand with us in the WOT, let them stand on their own now. I know — we’d never do it. But I can’t help but think it.

So, they are saying the french are toast? Or that the french are fried?

Have sales of white flags suddenly increased there this week?

Don’t discount the French under Sarkozy.

Well, if Chirac was still the prime minister of France, I’d agree with you. The new administration is much more conservative though.

I sort of agree with you. There is a pretty good military establishment within France, I think as an AF type, they have a fairly good air force, and I do not really know what kind of naval power they are capable of to any extent. The FFL is not something you want to mess with. As I understand it, they cannot operate within the borders of France, but they are a bunch of tough hombres.

I think they are talking in economic terms. Neither France nor Iran can project military might that far in conventional warfare terms. Sarkozy may have testicular fortitude, but he also has 1 carrier and it is the Renault of the Atlantic.

“Ali Ahani cautioned French companies in Iran of economic consequences if fresh embargoes were imposed on the Islamic Republic.”

Companies stupid enough to do business in Iran deserve to die.

France is currently one of only 4 true blue-water navies (i.e. capable of projecting force miles away from the homeland) -- the others being the US, the UK and Russia.
