How 'bout former Labor Secretary, Linda Chavez?

NO WAY! She's a big-time illegal alien apologist and mouth piece for La Raza.

Whew... we haven’t had a “who should McCain pick for VP” vanity in at least an hour.

CONSERVATIVE woman with a Hispanic surname would help the ticket.

Republicans don't choose people on race or gender - but on qualifications, let the rest fall where they may>

Good golly - choosing people first and foremost for gender and/or race is the demRats way

Who cares!I think anyone with half a brain will decline accepting the vp slot on this train wreck especially if that person has future aspirations.

” personally think a very sharp, CONSERVATIVE woman with a Hispanic surname would help the ticket”.

What about a gay Jewish divorcee in a wheelchair from Oregon?

How about just a strong conservative who’s at least 10 younger than the Maverick cadaver. -Wb

The Vice Presidency isn't a worth a bucket of warm ...er.. well you know.

However, considering McCain's age, the oldest Presidential candidate on election day, perhaps the choice of a spare might have a bit more weight than usual.

But I have trouble working up much enthusiasm for the pick. After all, who even remembers who Bob Dole's running mate was. I'd have to look it up.

Jack Kemp. I'd also forgot that Dole himself had been Ford's VP candidate.

Since VP candidates on losing tickets are generally never heard from again, or if they are, they lose again, I'd not want to jinx anyone who I'd really like to see as President. Dole/Kemp got 48.0% of the popular vote, to 50.1% for Mr. Peanut and that old Minnesota DFL guy, Mondale. Dole even won more states, 27 verses 23 + DC for the Peanut Pair. But they lost 297 to 240 in the electoral college. McCain and his running mate will be lucky to do that well.

McCain needs a running mate who shares his concerns, politics and principles, someone he has confidence in, someone he can work with. He needs Hillary. Bill could become his roaming ambassador or possibly one of his conservative Supreme Court picks. It isn’t fair for Republicans to demand that McCain yoke himself with a conservative who won’t fit into McCain’s definition of the new Republican Party. McCain will have the daunting task of defining the party for the next 16 or so years. McCain needs to surround himself with Democrats who will work with him to reach common goals.

Duncan Hunter is the only one I would want. If he picks Hunter, I might become a little more enthusiastic about this crappy election.

>> How 'bout former Labor Secretary, Linda Chavez? <<

Linda Chavez never was Secretary. She was nominated for the job and then her name was withdrawn when it was discovered she had given money to an illegal alien from Guatemala who lived in her home. I used to like Linda until I found out she was a shill for illegal aliens -- putting her with McCain only makes the problem worse.

Secondly, McCain needs to pick the most qualified conservative candidate who can WIN "blue states" in November. Period. Leave affirmative action to the Dems. The GOP should have learned its lesson with Alberto Gonzales & Harriet Miers

Third, I think it's unwise to pick anyone for veep who is best-known for being tied to Bush, as the theme in this election is "change".

How about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin? She's famous for reasons other than her gender: she beat a sitting Governor in her own party by a huge margin in the primary and is now one of the most popular Governors in the country, and would play well with soccer mommies and young voters. The only problem is Alaska only has three electoral votes and they're much guranteed to go GOP anyway.

Tim Pawlenty seems like the ideal choice to me, I don't see what he did that makes Minnesota freepers so lukewarm about his candidacy. If supporting global-warming kooks is the most "liberal" thing he's ever done, by all means, select him. There are alot of freepers who scream "RINO" at any candidate who fails to agree with them 100% of the time.
