The Obama Enigma: Where would he lead America?
Washington Post ^ | February 24, 2008 | Editorial

Posted on 02/24/2008 10:40:35 AM PST by drellberg

THE NATIONAL Journal magazine recently ranked Barack Obama as the most liberal senator in 2007 … Is he a liberal at heart who tacks occasionally to the center or more of a centrist capable of suppressing leftist instincts when political circumstances demand?... It's telling, at this relatively late stage in the nominating process, that the answers are not clear -- at least not to us. … where is Mr. Obama most comfortable himself? Where would he strive to take the country? … Perhaps, but one could read the record and arrive at a different conclusion. Mr. Obama not only declined to filibuster Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.; he was initially inclined to vote for him, according to The Post's Perry Bacon Jr. Even in the heat of a primary campaign, he has shown some brief glimmers of divergence from the party line: He dared to mention the notion of "merit pay" in an appearance before the teachers union …

This is worth reading several times, in my opinion, because it is so telling. At this late juncture, the Washington Post -- the Post! -- is saying that they have no idea what the Democratic nominee stands for. He may be ultra-left wing, but then again he may be not quite that leftist. As evidence, they say he was initially inclined to vote to confirm Alito (before changing his mind), and that he mentioned (mentioned!) merit pay when talking to the teachers' unions.

I believe Barack Obama's nomination will be a dream come true for Republicans. He will crash and burn long before November!

They have no idea what he stands for? Well, whatever would give him the power and after that - whatever keeps “the glorious leader” at the helm longer. Demagoguery fits the first bill best and Socialism fits the second best.

“Where would he lead America?”

Corporate fascism with a goony face. There should be a word for “rule by lawyers”.

I asked a friend of mine who is going to vote for Obama why he would do that and he had no answer. I pressed and he said that he would shake things up. Does my friend know what he stands for? No, not that he would admit. Then I asked him what needs shaking up and again he had no answer.

WTF are they doing with this smooth talking socialist? Perhaps all McCain has to do is to keep asking how Obama would implement his ideas and how would he pay for them. Keep him talking about raising taxes.

Down the drain.

Look at France. Like us, they have a class of people that refuse to assimilate, destroy their own property (when they have it - they destroy others property at will). Constant strikes by the overpowerful unions, crippling pension and healthcare costs, corruption (when the system is overly oppresive as Socialist/Communist states are, corruption becomes the way to skirt the oppresive laws).

No personal freedoms. Committees of the incompetent and emotionally disturbed rule the Federal government.

Watch or read “A Clockwork Orange.” This is exactly what Anthony Burgess was warning everyone about.

Obama Proposes “Labor Battalions” [semi-satire]

In a move the candidate characterized as having the dual purpose of restoring “a sense of community” and “combating obesity,” Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill) said one of his first policy initiatives if he is elected president will be to ask for legislation establishing government-run “labor battalions” wherein people will be called upon to “toil for the collective benefit of society.”

“Americans have become too self-centered, too greedy,” Obama said. “This isn’t their fault. Our society doesn’t insist that they put aside their petty personal concerns for the good of the whole. As president I will be giving Americans the opportunity to do just that.”

While all the details of this proposal haven’t been laid out, the gist of the plan calls for every working American to contribute one month a year to community projects. “People will get their hands dirty investing their sweat for a better America,” Obama rhapsodized. “They’ll be out in the fresh air getting exercise, too.”

Those reluctant to contribute to the effort “will be asked to attend special education sessions to try to help them overcome their selfish aversion to work for the common good,” Obama continued. “We will change America, one soul at a time if that’s what it takes.”

Will the Democrat followers finally stop belly-aching about ‘CHANGE’ if they get their Obama?

Obama is an actor. The boomers, who believe in nothing but their own self-righteousness and sense of entitlement, have finally found something to believe in: the hollow, barren rhetoric of a secular shaman who panders with every phrase to the depths of their narcissism.

“Where would he lead America?” Straight into the toilet ....

I was going to say the same thing. Good thing they instituted the low-flush variety, as it will take more than a few flushes to completely accomplish the job. Our only hope is that we have sufficient conservative resistance in place to prevent much of what damage a President Obama could inflict on the country.

I’m more interested in knowing where those behind Obama want to take the U.S. Someone plucked this empty suit out of obscurity less than 5 years ago and propelled him to the doorstep of the presidency.
