I’m not positive, but I think McCain fought against the larger tax cuts because he wanted spending cuts.
That said, I heard Delay speak a few weeks ago. He was great.

Tax cuts have more than paid for themselves every time they have been tried back to President Kennedy. Why object to the larger tax cuts when you can still fight for reductions in spending? I don’t get the rational there.
John could have signed on to the large tax cuts, and we would have joined him to fight for spending cuts.
As is generally the case with McCain though, he sticks his thumb in our eye, then gets huffy if we don't support him.
