I have received a lot of e-mail regarding Princeton's apparent decision to embargo Michelle Obama's college thesis. A few purported quotes have begun floating through the ether, which seems surprising if the Obamas have conspired to keep the paper buried at Princeton. The messages all seem to believe that the thesis contains something explosive, especially in terms of racial politics.
Maybe it does, and maybe it doesn't. Why would anyone be surprised if it did? To paraphrase one of the great lines from South Park, there's a time and a place for radical thought, and it's called college. Mrs. Obama wrote the paper 20 years ago, while living in the cocoon of academia. I doubt that it reflects her current state of mind.
It's not quite as bad as going back to Barack's kindergarten essays, but it's just about as irrelevant. Most importantly, Michelle Obama isn't the candidate. Her speeches on behalf of her husband now are relevant and fair game for criticism, but Mrs. Obama didn't write her college thesis as an argument for her future husband's election. When people dissected Hillary Clinton's thesis, it at least had some limited relevancy because of her own candidacy -- and even then reflected the state of mind of a woman in her early 20s, and not the state of mind of the same woman over 30 years later.
So far, Michelle Obama has given critics plenty of source material in the present campaign. Better to focus on that than to go on a silly spelunking tour of the college papers of someone who isn't running for office.
She’s effectively running for First Lady, no? Do you want a foaming-at-the-mouth, America-hating racist First Lady in the White House?
Didn’t hurt Byrd...oh, I forgot, He was a Democrat.
Again?

It is likely that Obama never wrote any thesis. He went from undergrad to law school, I think. There is writing in law school, in the first year, but the topic is typically assigned. He may have written or edited law review articles, but seldom are the topics there anything that would get anyone (except the truly scholarly law students and professors— of which I was never one) excited.
No, you don’t “run” for first lady.
What percentage of the population doi you thinks votes for the candidates spouse? However, this may be the first time we vote against a spouse, Willie.

There would be no need to examine her writings if she were not actively campaigning and giving speeches on behalf of Obama, but since she has thrust herself into the campaign, I see no reason not to look at her writings. Obama’s choice of a wife may reflect his values.
On the other hand, I don’t think Mrs. McCain has given any speeches for John McCain, although she is always at his side. (Don’t take this as an endorsement of McCain by me, although I will support the GOP nominee against either Clinton or Obama.)
I’m not ashamed of my master’s thesis. I’ve even uploaded it to my personal website so that others can download and read it.
I see no reason. Her husband is a socialist. If her husband was a conservative, you would say it’s irrelevant. What more do you need to know. I think we should see what his aprents believe and what his kids are writing on trheir school papers.
If it wasn't real, it was an incredible forgery. Complete with 1960's font's, whiteouts, and a sophomoric mindset that would be hard to fake. An adult did not write that thesis.
She obviously had no idea what to say and still, she had to write a thesis. So she filled it up with a bunch of quotations and mindless rambling. You sort of have to read it to know what I mean.
She probably doesn't want to have to disown it because: (1) She would probably be lying; and (2) Having to disown a black-nationalist marxist viewpoint will lose votes for hubby.
It would be nice if someone were to ask that question.
And while I can see the Captain's points, if she did have something crazy and racial in it, it certainly is appropriate to get her on record as saying "I've grown up and no longer believe it".
If there was anything in it worth reading, someone has a copy of it. My guess is that it is another poorly written, poorly researched embarrassment to the university.
the Obamas have conspired to keep the paper buried at Princeton
yes Just Like Hillary Hid her College papers
There is no candidate worth Voting for.
I dont care who wins,, they are all crap.
Where were you on the issue of spouses bringing astrologers into the white house?
If the spouse is relevant, let's dredge up all of their opinions. Let's get a matrix of their positions so we can compare them. Let's have a spouse debate. Let's get all of their personal scandals, errors, foibles etc. Let's see all of their school papers.
We had our say against her idiocy the other day. If this is an ongoing campaign, count me out. I'm spending my time attacking her husbands positions.
Oh, and let me know who has the best spouse so I'll know who to vote for.
I saw that after I posted my comment. I didn't realize it had got out. The writing style was similar to that of a typical Newsweek article, in my opinion.
Even so, she did supress release of the article, didn't she? She's no less a hypocrite for the article's eventual release, in my opinion.
Since the democratic party has gone over the cliff to socialism, It reflects the fact that the radicals of the sixties have gotten more desperate and dangerous. Obama is the most radical leftist in U.S. history who has a good chance of being president. The thing to realize is the way he is pulling this off. Not one policy has been discussed in detail and he leads on vapor talk of “hope and change”? Get real! This guy is very dangerous as the media tries desperately to sell his image to as many Americans as possible..... Sorry, NO SALE!
Good thing that's changed!
Thanks for the additional info. It sounds genuine...
