1200- WOAI ^ | 02/22/08 | Jeff Forsyth

Posted on 02/22/2008 4:42:09 AM PST by torchthemummy

In an interview with 1200 WOAI news during his swing through Texas, longshot Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee outlined a strategy which has him not winning the GOP nomination outright, but pushing the nomination to the September Republican National Convention, which he says will turn to him as the most ‘conservative alternative.’

There is no “good faith” line in the establishment clause.

Certainly there is "good faith" in upholding the establishment clause.

One might not DECLARE a particular religion to be THE official state religion, but he or she could certainly favor one and outwardly despise and badmouth another.

Which describes Huckabee.

Alicewonders, you show up on every thread with your hate-McCain comments and your slams against freepers who would vote McCain to stop the fascist/marxist Hillobama ("willing to sell out their principles").

You're getting so repetitive and boring. Please return to the rabbit hole again and don't let the manhole cover hit you on the way down.

I am from Pennsylvania and I think another reason he lost was his house situation and the kids education...he received a huge money advantage for his kids going to some special type school...

McCain is fine. If McCain was a bad choice the MSM would not have picked him for us. (dripping rabid sarcasm off)

You’ve never read about the establishment clause have you? Read Scalia’s opinions, dissents and concurrences on it . . . conservatives best source in the area in my opinion.

What I think is important is that we not insist on victory in their home states for real conservatives when the home state is left leaning.

So you want everyone to be mind-readers and discern when someone is just "pretending" to be a moderate as opposed to being a "real" conservative.

Romney made a few pandering liberal comments in order to win in Massachusetts, but his record of governance was fairly conservative... to the point he got support from several Pro-Life groups, the NRA, from fiscal watchdog groups, and from conservative 'voucher' educational types.

The liberal groups in Massachusetts literally despised and opposed Romney in office...

You can tell a lot about someone from that person's enemies list.

The point is that the Huckster dissed Mormons by purposely pointing out to Evangelicals that Romney was LDS in order to support his (the Huckster’s) candidacy. In return for such unchristian behavior, he could be in bigger trouble in WY/ID/UT/NV than elsewhere and actually worse than McCain (if that is possible).

Even if McCain somehow came up short, which is unlikely, he will be close enough that he’ll get the nomination. All of the talk and effort about somehow getting a different nominee is a pipe dream.

Actually, I think our only hope is disgruntlement in the Democrat party.

If the superdelegates throw the nomination to Hillary despite a popular vote, you may have disgruntled democrats crossing the line to vote for the Republican nominee.

Vice versa, if Obama wins it, you might also have disgruntled democrats crossing the line.

Both of the democrats are hard liberals. Not all democrats welcome universal care, or an Iraq surrender. So the Republicans are still in play, not because of Republican enthusiam, but because of potential rat disgruntlement.

Santorum’s first Fed gov’t agency to hit was the Weather Service? Pretty weird unless lobbyist driven.

Those that vote for Huckabee now as a protest -

I couldn't vote for Huckabee as a protest. I voted (early) for a quitter!

You are not honest. Romney implemented a Gay, Lesbian and Transgender task force to implement the homosexual agenda in the schools. He put in place a compulsory health care program that is so ugly Obama attacked it last night in his debate with Clinton — who wants to put the same sort of program in place. Romney appointed homosexual activists as judges in Massachusetts. He raised taxes. His health care program is already $400 million (a year) over cost estimates. He stated support for homosexual scout masters. Quit your shilling. The guys gone.

“I wish Rick Santorum was our next President.”

DITTO. Great guy with a wonderful family. And what a great VP he would of made instead of Cheney where he could of positioned himself for an 08 run for the top job.
But like they did with Fred Thompson the RNC would do him no special favors. When Rick came under attack for his strong stance on moral and social issues, the RNC turned their back on him and let him fend for himself.

Right. Romney spent $43 million of his own money just to cover for McCain.

“Hucklebee is the Republican version of one who practices identity politics.”

Agreed - and in the worst way. You’ve laid it out perfectly IMO.

“So would Utah go for the Huckster?”

Well, let’s see. I’d have a choice of voting for someone who hates me because I’m Mormon, or who hates me because I’m white. I don’t know what I’d do.
