And damaging it would bring the crime under federal jurisdiction?
And if the motivation of the attackers was to cause intimidation, this would be by definition a hate crime and/or terrorism.

The police aren’t allowed to make decisions. The police are the armed extension of the civil power. With their clubs, mace, handcuffs and tasers they carry out the political wishes of the political power.
