Meet The Obamas
Campaign for Working Families ^

Posted on 02/20/2008 6:16:14 AM PST by Gopher Broke

As the Obama juggernaut continues to press on, I thought it would be useful to continue our look at the Democrat frontrunner and the would-be first lady, Michelle Obama, as both are making headlines. First, the candidate and his record.

National Journal, a respected non-partisan political magazine, recently published its 2007 Vote Ratings. The ratings employ computer-assisted analysis to examine and rank congressional votes. And you may be surprised to know who came in as the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate. Hillary Clinton? Nope. Ted Kennedy? No. John Kerry? Wrong.

According to National Journal's rankings, which analyzed 99 key Senate votes, the most liberal senator in 2007 was Barack Obama, who took the liberal position on 65 of the 66 key votes on which he voted.

On Campaign for Working Families' Congressional Scorecard, Obama has cast only one conservative vote out of 48 key votes we have tracked since he joined the Senate in 2005. That would give him a 2% pro-family score with CWF! Hillary is only marginally better, at 5%, with four extra years of service.

The release of National Journal's scorecard was well-timed coming as Obama was comparing himself favorably to President Ronald Reagan, and as some conservatives are even praising Obama for his charm and vision. I suppose these qualities are refreshing when Obama is compared with his primary rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton!

Folks who listen to Obama speak may feel uplifted and inspired, but there is rarely anything substantive in his speeches. Obama often does not go into detail about his political views or public policy record, preferring instead to present abstract visions of unity and hope for the future. If he did go into detail, he would surely put off most Republicans, not to mention many Independents and moderate Democrats. In fact, we may see blue collar Democrats coming back to the GOP this year, as they did in 1980 and 1984.

Polls indicate Barack Obama's chances of winning the Democrat presidential nomination are on the rise, and he may well be that party's nominee this fall. It is therefore high time that voters look beyond the rhetoric and take a good look at the record of the U.S. Senate's most liberal member.

Michelle Obama And America

Michelle Obama, wife of Democrat frontrunner Barack Obama, shocked a lot of people over the weekend when she said this: "For the first time in my adult lifetime I am proud of my country." Wow! That takes my breath away. Mrs. Obama is 44 years old, so for over roughly 24 years of "adulthood," taking her at her word, she has never been proud of our nation. Is there a theme here? You may remember that last year Senator Obama said he refused to wear a flag lapel pin because it represented a "substitute for true patriotism." And what precisely is true patriotism? According to Senator Barack Hussein Obama, it is opposing the war in Iraq.

Apparently nothing America did from 1982 to 2008 caused her heart to swell with pride. Not our successful effort to defeat Soviet communism and liberate millions of people in Eastern Europe? Not our relief efforts around the world, through which we spent billions to help the downtrodden? Not anything?

When she learned with all the rest of us how her fellow citizens on United Flight 93 bravely fought back against jihadist hijackers and prevented another disaster on September 11th, did she not fill up with pride? As Americans of all races and classes rallied together in defense of our nation in the aftermath of September 11th, did her spirit not jump with love for her homeland? Apparently not.

The Obamas are living examples of the American Dream. Both Michelle Obama and her husband have Ivy League degrees. They make a joint income of over one million dollars a year. They live lives that most ordinary Americans can only dream of. Yet, Mrs. Obama, who wants to be first lady, has been unable to find the pride in America that millions of ordinary Americans feel every day.

Sadly, her attitude is not rare among leftwing American elites. We are "educating" millions of Americans to be globalists first and foremost, and we are doing precious little about educating our children to be proud and unashamed Americans.

The Obamas are flying high politically right now, but I don't believe many Americans will want to cast their votes this November for a couple so out of touch with traditional American values.

Yet Mr. Obama is promising all those things, and he’s not behind in the polls. Why? Because the press has dealt with him as if he were in a beauty pageant.

At this stage in the political "process", it is a beauty pageant. Senator Obama appears "moderate" primarily to the extent that he is not Shrill Hillary. His voice is mellifluous and melodic. Hers sounds like a steel shovel scraping a brick wall. He is graceful and dignified. She is inelegant and prone to odd facial expressions.

Never mind that Obama's words are a virtual Mantra of Meaninglessness (hope change hope change hope change) - that will matter a great deal later, but for now the emotion-driven Democrats are looking to fall in love again. And given the composition of one or more of their core constituencies, Obama might well make a swell bride.

That did it for me as well. Cindy and John McCain need to hold onto that and not let it go. Cindy needs to repeat over and over that she is and has always been proud to be and American.

“Things will change come November. There is not one stae that went for Bush in 2004 that Obama can win in the general election”

Ohio.

Explain how that will “go Republican” this time around, please.

I too am getting sick of all this “Obama-nation” stuff. Or maybe I should just call it what it is: obamanation. Read that out loud and you’ll get my meaning.

Barack is an updated version of guru, Jim Jones; and his audiences cannot get enough of his kool-aide. The first time I heard him speak was his televised appearance at DNC convention; I got cold chills.

Not from admiration; but rather from a 'fear' response; watching the audience respond, not to his speech; but rather to the power of his voice and his rhythmic articulation of the words for which substance need not be accountable. His words inviting only, the rise of emotion. Capturing the feelings of those listening, as a darkness captures light. Beyond Reason and easy to recognize; a force of darkness to be reckoned with. . .

Wished at that moment, that this man might change his career path and decide on something more suitable. . .like 'televangelism'. Realized later, that at the least, a synthetic evangelism was and IS his career; and he has found the 'fastest track' to his success.

....America appears to be taking an abrupt left turn off the cliff to socialism with its happy happy for Obama. Not a good sign at all.

Even the democrats in Ohio are somewhat traditional. Obama will not even win the democratic primary there. Clinton could win it in a general, but she will probably not be on the ballot.

It reminds me of 1932 Berlin.

Yes, it reminds me as well. Particularly as I just recently finished reading 'Defying Hitler' a memoir by Sebastion Haffner who tells not the gory details of a holocaust; but rather as it is explained in prologue that the author

'takes you from day to day, through early 1933 [for us to see] how easy it was for Hitler, beginning in such small ways, to turn a civilized, intelligent people into a helpless, penned-in-flock of sheep."

Sad, how much changes; and how little.

To add to my 'pleasure'; am now reading Anna Politkosvskaya's 'A Russian Diary'. She is the Russian journalist - and because of her exacting honesty, a Putin enemy - who was murdered in the stairwell of her apartment as she was returning home from work on what was to be, her last day.

Politkosvskaya is incredibly courageous in her writing; and surely she must have recognized her own 'handwriting on the wall' taking the risks that she did, exposing the ugly truth of Putin; his friends; and the painful truth of Putin's enemies; who are sooner or later, rendered, 'former enemies'. (the latest most likely, just last week. . .the Russian ex-pat billionaire and enemy of Putin, living in London in a secured home/'fortress'. . .who feared for his life; and now 'fears no more'.)

Bottom line, the evil is recognizable and familiar; and we should not for a moment; assume our friendship with Putin's Russia.

Makes me all the more convinced that Repubs need to get beyond the imperfect of McCain; appreciate at the least, the few, but critically important Conservative principles he does have and hold on for four years; while working towards better Conservative solutions. Allowing for a 'four-year inch' with McCain is the only viable option versus the 'four-year' inch that will be 'miles' should we allow those so embedded with Marxist ideology to settle into the most powerful office of our nation and the world-at-large.

I’ll say it again I truely believe that the Obama’s are racist and very much anti American.

YES they go to a racist church which dedicates themselves to Africa first yes they have come out with statements similar to his wife saying she has never been proud of her country until now.

I truely believe that many blacks would not be voting either if he were white.

Then there is his upbringing which is very shady from the being brought up as a radical muslim and going to a madrassa in indondisia to his hard core drug use.

as for the media
I have found them to be disgusting, they have been giving these twom people a free pass since he came on the scene, are they afraid because of his colour are they afraid because of his past, do he fit their agenda or are they so desperate to see a black man in power that they will ignore where he stands on the issues.

The media need to start asking questions instead of being biased and giving Obama a free pass .

His speech well sermon last night I coulod not believe, the media need to do their job not cheerlead

indedd I too believe Obama ios a real threat to this country

no one knows where he actually stands,. except for things like when he becomes president he will have a muslim country sit down

does this mean he will open the borders to muslims and populate this country, does this mean he will be letting in sudenese etc based on asylum

all we know is that his heart is in Africa and not to America , the man won’t even put his hand on his heart nor will he even wear an American pinI cannot believ so many have voted this phony

Hitler too was a great speaker and look what happened there.

maybe I am just more into this but I think that this man has been groomed to be president since early childhood.

if the media wer asking him questions and wanting clarifacation on things like his wife said then the man wouldn’t be anywhere near the white house

I was against McCain but believe me if Obama gets the nominee I will do everything I can to stop this man being elected, I will volunteer my time for the first time inmy life, etc etc

Folks who listen to Obama speak may feel uplifted

That's what it is, Obamaspeak. Very much like Newspeak in Orwell's 1984:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: " Newspeak is a fictional language in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In the novel, it is described as being "the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year." Orwell included an essay about it in the form of an appendix[1] in which the basic principles of the language are explained. Newspeak is closely based on English but has a greatly reduced and simplified vocabulary and grammar. This suits the totalitarian regime of the Party, whose aim is to make any alternative thinking ("thoughtcrime") or speech impossible by removing any words or possible constructs which describe the ideas of freedom, rebellion and so on. One character says admiringly of the shrinking volume of the new dictionary: "It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words."

For more on the principles of Newspeak, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspeak

one thing out of this

surely now we can get rid of the racist policy of affirmative action seeing as a black man can now be spo near to the presidency or will michelle obama say that the blacks need that policy as a black person cannot get ahead without it

“Statements like this are made and people try to take it out of context and make a great big deal out of it, and that isn’t at all what she meant,” Obama said.
.
.
.
But it is exactly what she said !
