Clinton could turn toxic as options dry up (Memo: Hillary To Go Nuclear Against Obama)

Analysis: Clinton could turn toxic as options dry up

The Wisconsin defeat for Hillary Clinton means that she has to win big on March 4 - and may campaign more negatively

A few months back, as Barack Obama’s campaign was just beginning to look like it might seriously challenge Hillary Clinton’s presidential ambitions, a senior Obama campaign official sent a warning to his staff.

It was a succinct message designed to forewarn and forearm his people against what was expected to be a ferocious onslaught from an increasingly desperate Clinton campaign.

“Better get your hazmat suits on”, the memo told them

Mrs Clinton is running out of options. There’s a growing sense that she may now choose to go aggressively negative. She is under pressure from some in her campaign to step up the attacks on Mr Obama, especially over his inexperience.

The Clinton campaign may need to reach deeper into the negative campaigning armoury if they are to have any chance. They will doubtless be looking at Mr Obama’s remarkably low negative ratings in polls and wondering how they can push them up.

Until now the danger has been that negative attacks could backfire. That is a risk that will probably now have to be taken, even if it damages the Democratic party as a whole. The Clintons have only a matter of days to save their lifelong aspirations. They will not give them up without a fight.

Bump.

Hillary has a problem attacking Obama or McCain - those three are alike. They lack experience, are pro massive amnesty, and left-liberals.

Maybe she can go after the Che poster at Obama's HQ. Or she can dig up something for his past. McCain has had no problem fabricating things and lying and it worked for him. It might work for Hillary also. Then there is playing victim - Bill might fake a heart attack or Chelsea might claim to receive death threats.

Even before McCain became the nominee which state had more Republicans voting than Democrats... (including those liberal independents that gave McCain his title) To date more liberals have turned out to vote than have Republicans.

Me too. She’s evil. Obama is much, much worse.

"Seriously, I hope that she and Bill end up stealing the nomination."

That's exactly my hope too! If they steal it there will be a nuclear detonation in the Democratic Party and with its voter base. The Democratic Party may not survive.

I am NOT predicting the outcome. I am only reflecting upon what is up to this day. Two candidates have at the very fiber of their being an they are OWED the position of presidency.... NOT for any particular public good... just look what they claim makes each the better person for the job. Hillary says she is experienced and McCain says he is ready day one for the job.

The under 50 voters are NOT impressed with these two so along comes Obama and he fits the profile of what diversity training means in this day and age. Now people can hold on to FEAR for only so long and both Clinton and McCain are candidates that instill FEAR, there is nothing comforting or leading about either of them.

She is toxic. How can she get any more negative than she is?

If she plays the super-delegates game, and wins this way...then half of the democratic faithful...those voting Obama...will simply sit out. Their lack interest and their dislike of her...won’t improve if she wins. It’ll be her misfortune to lose to McCain...who is the true loser in this entire game. With almost 30 percent of the Republican faithful declared non-McCain at this point...November could become the least interesting campaign that we’ve seen in 150 years.

From Laura Ingraham's site today:

"I swear it is not happening now, but as we get closer to the convention, if it is a stalemate, everybody will be going after everybody's delegates. All the rules will be going out the window."

-- A senior Clinton official, on Hillary's strategy to pursue delegates already pledged to Barack Obama.
