Mac Owners Have Something to be Snobby About*

*a better computer system

If I'm still using a PowerComputing Mac clone from 1996, am I still allowed to be snobby?

OK. Well then how about getting a good Home Depot vs Lowes debate going. I think we need to let the do-it-yourselfers in on the passion of the product loyalty riots.

I can’t help but think that this is very unsettling to Bill Gates. He is just as much as a liberal as that apple guy. His farts have less green houses gases due to a eco friendly diet. Why can’t Mircosoft be the choice of wacko snobby professors?

As opposed to owning a Windows box by having the user download a carefully crafted .jpg file?

The central problem for Windows security going forward, IMO, is their monolithic kernel and the registry. MS shows no inclination to get rid of either.

nyuk. ;-)

As for HD vs. LOW - I dunno about you, but those “self checkout” aisles that HD has installed infuriate me. The CFO now wonders what I have against HD, and wonders why I keep going back to the corner hardware store, which costs far more than HD on most things.

The answer? I haven’t got the time to suffer the “efficiency” of the Home Depot “self-checkout” line.
There was one incident where I threw up my hands, left all the crap there on the checkout and simply walked out of Home Depot. When confronted about it by a HD employee, I told him that I was tired of trying to convince their stupid machine to allow me to pay for this merchandise and that I was going home and promptly shorting their stock.

That got a manager over, who checked out my stuff.

But I now despise going to HD. With a flaming passion.

It sounds to me that you were using Macs with OS 9 on them. That was a less stable system. Crashes with OS X are virtually unheard of.

I always avoid those stupid self-checkout lines and instead go over to the contractor checkout lane that very seldom has a line. I always park by that entrance so I can go in and out the same door and not deal with as much foot and auto traffic near the regular entrance.

Anyone who views a personal computer as a love object has some serious mental issues.........

Luckily, I can't use a Mac, I'm not gay!

(That was for the humorless Mac lover that pinged the Admin Mod when I repeated that old joke months ago.........)

I’ve tested Vista SP1 Betas and release candidates. Today we received the official SP1 (yes, pre-public release; MS likes us) for deployment within our university enterprise environment. Public release of SP1 should be early/ mid March.

SP1 is nothing special on the front end and to the average user there are no readily apparent changes. Vista still sucks after its application.

XP is going to be our mainstay for quite some time.

Which means, I have yet to find a reason to switch.

I have one solely for the purpose of checking the web site I maintain for Mac compatibility. Other than that, my wife uses it to surf and word process. It's a pretty (useless) laptop though.

I’ve got a $199 WalMart.com computer running Fedora Linux.

I’m the real snob here. Mac users are just spoiled teenagers with little or no technical ability.

Gnome mahjong rules.

Have you tried Linux on an experimental basis? Some distributions can be tested from a cd without in any way changing your current operating system. I took another freeper’s advice about trying it out, and have — with a minor frustration or two — been very happy. I can do things that are not possible on the pc. I am not an anti-MicroSoft guy, but I do like linux.

My... The MacBook Pro is $1999; and you can get a Dell Vostro with a 160 GB HDD (bigger drive), 2 GB RAM, same CPU, a 15.4” screen, 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.0, AND a Verizon EVDO broadband modem for under $1600.
